Sorry for the late update of the website after Week 2 (AGAIN!)... same story, I couldn’t hang around and the scores were a little late getting to me (still haven’t gotten the Red-Green score, it was entered as a Green 8-0 win as I only had the winner – this will be fixed next week if I get the actual score). In future, if you could report your team's scores via text (somebody's gotta have a cell on the field, don't they?) to 905-409-7773 that would work best – I will be around this week though, so just find me (reffing middle game, playing late game, drinking beer after late game) and let me know the score.

So, apart from Black getting smoked in the first half against Orange (and not really getting much better after I left), what happened this week?

Hey Tim, thanks for the support, but don't even worry about it. I see that I struck a nerve with some of the Vets and Exec and my second post ended in good humor so no to worry, nothing has to change. :)

Vets and Exec, I did go seek the counselling that you suggested and my therapist said that I am right and should stand up to bullies when confronted..... So make with the stat keeping and I'll look for the suggestion box on the sidleines this week!! :P

Oh and before this gets out of hand.....I'm also having fun this year and enjoying the new faces taking the snaps.

C'mon Experts, where are this weeks predictions???

In week one when burgundy only had 5 guys they were given a player "from the league" to make 6. Orange was down a man in week one also and was also given a player "from the league". So this week when navy was down a man, it was so generous of Spack to give them Raf's 62 year old dad, who was wearing jeans and running shoes. Seriously? I'm sure they could have found a player to help out. But this really shouldn't surprise anyone.

i think the green team is underated reading previous posts. not sure how many they beat red by but they have a few unknown players that are good. plus there #1 pick in wray and miller being a experienced qb. quick team. interesting to see how they compare against a solid all round team

What kind of players were given to Burgandy and Orange in Week 1? Is it the league that decides or does the other team have to agree?

From the League Rules:

"Minimum 5 players or game is forfeit. Only players assigned by league directors are to play. League players may be added to a team with 4 or 5 players to avoid a forfeit if the opposing team agrees."

So, while Spackman had to agree, he was not within his rights to offer a player who the league directors had not assigned to play - the player had to be from the league.

Is this surprising for Spackman? Well, I'd have to say yes, you'd expect him to force Noah to play with 5...he must have been feeling very generous to allow him an old guy in jeans and sneakers. I bet he was kicking himself at the end of the day though, only being able to win by 30 after allowing Noah this benefit.

For the record Noah wasn't even there, Tim backed-up and did a good job. And thanks to Raf's dad for playing, if not for him Spack would have won by more than 30. You don't see it often, but 6 on 5 usually gets ugly quick.

It should be clarified that if there are eligible subs sitting on the sideleines, then spectators should not be used.

Timeout, please dont make fun of my father like that who helped your team out when your six man left the game for what reason I do not know. Their was a young player playing during the game and he left than my dad decided he would help out and play for you guys. But as a executive member I should of not allowed my dad to play, but I thought it would be fun to play him. Im sorry that I let my feelings come first.'

Easy Raf! If you read my post I'm thankful your dad played. He helped keep the game close for the first half. The guy who left earlier was an Orange player (not Navy).

My point was that if anyone outside of the league isn't allowed to play, everyone should know. If Burgandy wanted to be generous and give us a 6th player, there were a few others from the 8:00 game that could have played in place of your dad.

Again, glad your dad chipped in for the cause.

I wasn't at the game so I can't comment, but it sounds like we had enough to play and it was close for a bit (maybe 10 minutes). Every team goes through weeks where attendance may be an issue. Especially this year as the league stretched it to 10 teams, as it really should have been at 8. Half of our team was at an end of year ball tournament, so these things happen.

As for the borrowing of players, I don't think there should ever be a default, a team should always be allowed to pick up a player. Of course adding a TJ or a Mike H is a bit extreme and I would say no, which I think is understandable. But I dont think allowing a team to pick up a solid player who doesn't mind playing both ways is going to impact your team's ability to sneak into the Top 8.

For the record, I am likely not playing again this weekend, so "experts" should take that into account either positively or negatively. Team Navy will be fine this week without me, as my WAR number is pretty low.

if a 'star' player is picked up..then hey why can't there be limitations i.e. have to snap the ball, can only cover qb...etc..etc..
it would make a lot more sense than picking up a sideliner, hell what's next picking up pregnant wife/gf...as long as she's within the running limit fo her 2nd trimester, it's all fair and fun...

Good idea crafty, but you'd have to ask yourself whether someone would want to play if they don't really get to play - if you get my meaning.
My mom has assured me that i am a star and I would not want to rush only as it would make it that much harder to PICK MILLER TWO TIMES, which is what i am going to do this week, but while wearing the silver.
Oh yes, despite NOT catching 50% of balls thrown to me (yes, the percentage was zero. oh how i cried that night, and yes, please proceed to Snyder-bash), and NOT picking TO off (probably should have on one play) i am still confident that I will catch 100% of the balls Miller throws to me, possibly even a TD!

I was on the sidelines at the beginning of the Navy/Burgundy game.

The only people there were Drew, JJ, Mike's dad, 2 Haddens & myself.

Drew & I had just played a game with only 6 players and weren't sticking around.
The Haddens had to ref cause some team's refs didn't show up.
JJ is not a player and wasn't sticking around

There were actually no options for a sub from the league to join the Navy team.

Snyder the only picking that you will be doing is picking yourself off the ground after numerous times of being besten for scores , as I recall you never caught any balls I have thrown to you in the past , why start now, See Yah Saturday Matt.

Green has a good team, but just not enough to compete with Silver - Silver by 14.

No QBs Showing up makes it hard to pick. Players not showing up makes it even harder no wonder no one wants to pick anymore. At least Noah let us know Thanks Noah. When is Everyone going to show up? Well let see my picks for week 3

Navy (Noah) vs Red (King)

No Noah So I pick
Red By more than One Play

Teal (Chambers) Baby (T.0.)

Who will get thier 1st win take
Baby by more than one play

Silver (Wes) Green (Miller)

Who will stay at the top
Take Silver by only one play

Orange (Colin) Gold (Nick)

This is a tough call im picking
Orange by one play

Black (Drew) Burgundy (Spack)

This is not a tough call
Burgundy by more than One Play

*Note the above picks are only if the team shows up with at least 80%.

PS can someone tell me what happend in the Silver Baby game there is no way Silver won with no QB (Wes)??? Who threw?? Burgundy (Spack)game I understand.

Schultzy Against The World - Week 3 WMFL

Always keep them wanting more. By holding off until Friday morning, I see that everyone begins to lose their mind... Onto the picks.

Wait a minute, let me check that again... Yep, I was 5-0 last week. Called them all right, even with some teams not getting full compliments out. Well, nowhere to go but down from here I guess.

8-2 for the season. Perhaps my new technique actually has some merit to it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, so let's try and duplicate tha perfect effort again.

Henry North - 8:00 - Red vs Navy

Adam < Noah, Dehaney < DaSilva, W.King = Matthews, Klassen > Quane, Verville < Imai, Young < McCaskie, Crouter/Heighway/Scanga/Highney = Benson/Fowler/Dunnett/Charmley

Calling all Navy players. Get you butts out to the field for an early atart this week. Sounds like your QB won't be there again, so what difference will that make??

This game will be closer than the ratings above might have you believe, and Red has a legitimate shot if Noah is not there. Still, I will stick with my first thoughts...

Take NAVY

Henry South - 9:30 - Green vs Silver

Miller > Coke, Wray > J,.Schleiffer, Payne = M.Schleiffer, Carquez = Fletcher, Hanley < Snyder, Cain = Martin, Warburton/Neznik/Wod/Highney < Clarkins/Lungrin/Meyer/Zmozynski

Battle of two unbeatens. One not a surprise, the other a mild surprise. The teams on either side seem pretty equal. The hat selections for Silver have proven to be significant. However, when push comes to shove, time and time again in this league, when the teams are closely matched, the better QB takes the game. For tht reason,

Take GREEN

Henry North - 9:30 - Baby vs Teal

Pierre = Chambers , Bradimore < Blanche, Brooks = Alexander, Siekowski > Hackett, Sabadin < Marshall, Hubenig < Morris, Schulz/Greatrix/Benight/Massey = McKeon/Livingstone/Blandford/Curcio

Having a hard time knowing what to make of the Teal team. Thought they would be better than they have looked. Baby is close, almost beating a good Silver team last week. The ratings above would lean me towards Teal, but I just can't pick them again until I see something positive.

Take BABY

Henry South - 11:00 - Burgundy vs Black

Spackman > Walker, Katradis > Carswell, Rafuse > Eskins, Elkington > McDonald, Thompson = Best, Rigg < Dionne, Oleksik/Jeune/Roskar < Carter/Chappelle/Clarks

Anyone that thinks this will be close is out of their mind. It is going to be a long season for Black.

Take BURGUNDY

Henry North - 11:00 - Gold vs Orange

Mikos = C.Hadden, Heath < M.Hadden, Glover > B.Smart, S.Bird > Hendry, P.Bird > R.Hadden, El-Hajjeh < Big Pete, Sederis/Phllips/Hickson < Hazlett/Harding/Julien/King

This should be a great game. Orange has yet to be tested with their full lineup as they pounded on a defenseless Black team last week after being short handed week 1. Gold has looked impressive marching out to a 2-0 start. Nick doesn't usually start that strong, but seems to have a really good team this season so far. Might come down to who actually plays some defense...

Take ORANGE

That's the way I see 'em this week. Have fun and remember to leave it all out on the field boys!!

"PS can someone tell me what happend in the Silver Baby game there is no way Silver won with no QB (Wes)??? Who threw?? Burgundy (Spack)game I understand."

ONE PLAY, it's actually quite simple. Silver has more than one QB, they have three (two are active) and two of them came from the hat.... I don't think it's my place to say who they are because Silver might be using that as a Patriots type advantage.

Good luck to all this weekend.

C'mon 1-play, 'no way silver won with no QB"? making statements like that erode whatever credibility you may have. Silver is a solid crew of men who simply get the job done. one man out, another steps in. No prima donnas, just hard work and committment to excellence.
At any rate, the fellas out of the hat are great players which helps a lot and should not be minimized - in particular since we played with just 6 guys last week which included our QB and top 3 draft picks missing. It should also be pointed out that Baby spotted us 8 pts by not reffing, which turned out to be the difference-maker in what was one of the most exciting games i have played in a while.
Good luck to everyone this week (except Miller and the green team ofcourse).

Argos tickets anyone?

Kevin Dawkins, many of you know him from his reffing in the Oshawa League, is selling Argo's tickets for this Saturday's game as a fundraising endeavour. The cost is $20 and the seats are 100 level endzone facing the jumbotron.

If you are interested let me know elk4521@gmail.com or shoot Kevin an email directly coachk@dawksports.com.

Thanks,

Scott

Looking at the Snyder's note:

When teams don't supply ref's, are they penalized that week or the next week?
What if they already played and missed reffing the game after. That would have to be the next week.

Curious, cause I wonder if Teal already thinks they're up 8-0 on Baby this week.

As stated in the rules (serioulsy guys, you know the rules are posted on the website??)

"Failure to provide a minimum of 2 referees (3 is preferred) at an assigned game will result in offending team being penalised 8 points to begin their next scheduled game"

...so, if they are reffing before their game they'd be penalized in the game immediately following their assignment. This is most typically the case since if they are reffing in the game following their game that week you would think that there would be refs available who just played - if, however, they didn't provide refs for the 11:00 game after playing the 9:30 game (or for the 9:30 after playing the 8:00), they'd be penalized the following week.

carrying on with this..

If Orange was the team that volunteered to ref cause Baby wasn't there, doesn't it stand to reason that Orange should be rewarded?
Instead of Silver getting 8 points vs Baby, Orange should when they play Baby.

Execs don't fly off on me.. stick with me, cause this is brilliant..

Therefore:
Black volunteers to ref all remaining games this year!
With all the cumulative bonus points, we may just have a respectible +/- at the end of the year!!

Burgandy vs Black
Sorry Drew maybe next week or the week after or the week after that , Spackman will show no mercy
Take Burgandy
Green vs Silver
2 Unbeaten teams Rookie QB vs an old veteran,a mix of some young guns and solid experienced players, has the making of a great game.
Take Green
Gold vs Orange
Speed kills ,If Nick can continue his solid play this game will not be close
Take Gold
Teal vs Baby
I do not believe Teal is this bad , Are we looking at a sophmore let down on part of Chambers , don't believe so. Legitimate chance this week , Baby should be without TJ , Who will TO throw to himself?
