Sorry guys I am a slacker...was sick in bed all day after our stunning tie on Saturday morning then got caught up in Thanksgiving festivities. You will notice that the standings have not yet been updated, funny thing about holidays, the traffic tends to make 2 hour trips from Kingston take 4 instead, so by the time I got home I just wasn’t in the mood to update the website...I can’t do that from work so I’ll do it tonight.

This week is the week of the mid-season party so mark your calendars and plan to come back to Melanie Pringles for some cold beer, free grub and live trash talk. I’m not sure what’s going on with the Skills Competition, you can see the schedule’s been modified to allow for it this week but I haven’t heard if the Exec is planning on running one or not, so stay tuned to these boards because if they’re not then late game times will revert to their normal schedule.

Still two undefeated teams on a collision course, if Burgundy can take care of Gold and if Silver can beat Orange (will Mike Hadden be there?) then we’ll see that showdown next week!

They should just leave the late games at the time they are already scheduled regardless of the skills competition. That way they might actually get started on time for once.

guys need to show up early for theier games, especially the 8am games, including the refs...we played the 8am game this week, didn't start until 8:15. toss the coin at 7:55 then players take the field...if not enough players there too bad start anyway or shorten the game time (like the rules say to do).

Duncan,

Game started at 8:06.. I was pushing to start at 8, but both teams were slow to move it, someone was complaining he was sick. Also, based on the close score of the game, the three plays at halftime and at the end took awhile. Also, all the timouts were used. If you would have been blown out like you usually are, it would have gone quicker. I would say we were late by 10 minutes max. Good game though on both sides.

really? i thought i showed up at 745 and was very slow getting down to the field because i could barely move (although i was able to cover chris heath no problem...), it seemed like i was there for half an hour before we started...come to think of it, it seemed like the game was 4 hours long...maybe it was just me...didn't mean to impugn your integrity there noah, but my point still stands even if my example does not...

C'mon Wes, let him throw, I want the opportunity to cover you 1-on-1 this week!! ;-)

Dear Bored,

On behalf of the dozens of WMFL'ers and those that follow the antics of the WMFL through postings on this board I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for that insightful and extremely entertaining post. You are right, the board has become somewhat of a bland wasteland lately but with posts like yours others will doubtless be suitably inspired to one-up your witty offering and entertain us to no end.

So, once again, thank-you! My only regret is that you didn't sign your post so that I might be able to thank you in person this weekend by buying you a beer, slapping you on the back and generally gushing over the joy you have brought to my day with your post. I am truly looking forward to more of the same!

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
Did Peter Piper pick a peck of pickled peppers?
If Peter Piper Picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

All this means is big pete if that's what they call u! I'm on my game!!!! Team orange doesn't want a full squad of silver! Mike might be there oh god isn't he the number one pick? I still don't understand why someone would pick a 5 first round???

Peter Piper, really Wes. Is that the best you've got??

Why not Peter Pumpkin-eater, Peter Pan, Peter Rabbit, Peter Parker or Peter Griffin??

Take all the shots you want at me pal, but you can't be serious taking shots at Mike H? Certainly one of the top guys in the league year-in and year-out. If he's a 5, you are a 2 and I am a negative number...

So all I have to do is say i'm bored and I'll have Duncan gushing over me and buying me beer? I'll say yes to the beer, but no to the gushing. As for the bored, that'll be anyone hoping to see a close game this week in the orange/silver battle, since silver is going to mercilessly crush orange and the brothers Hadden!

20 out of 25 not too bad (tie goes to me)

8:00 8 - Gold (Nick) 10 - Burgundy (Spack)

Looks like Nick has players finally show up! don’t think it will make a difference with Spack

Burgundy by ONE PLAY

9:30 1 - Teal (Chambers) 5 - Red (King)

Tough loss for both teams last week keep your heads up you both played what looks like the top two finalists this year.

Red by ONE PLAY

9:30 4 - Navy (Noah) 3 - Green (Miller)

This will be close game

Green by ONE HALF OF A PLAY

11:30 7 - Black (Drew) 2 - Baby (T.0.)

Battle of the no wins! If TJ is not playing I will pick Black if he is in will pick Baby.

Black by only ONE PLAY

11:30 9 - Orange (Colin) 6 - Silver (Wes)

Finally seen this Silver team play WOW!! Mike H. Show or no show Orange has no chance against this Silver Team Wes or no Wes this team is the real deal has there been a better team in the last 5 years or so I think not! Wow the D is solid and the Back up arm can throw. 2 Pics for TDs in their own end zone. Put Wes as a rec. and no team has a chance or do they?

Silver by more than ONE PLAY

1. Glad to see Duncan take out his ire on "Bored" (I am not him thankfully) and direct it away from me! :P

2. Wes calling Hadden a "5", it's a good thing they aren't going to be facing each other this week........

3. ONE PLAY can you help me pick out my lottery numbers this week? It will be a nice finish to Sunday after my team wins our game!!!

Tune in on Saturday to find out which player gets stranded on "Sleeper Island"!!

With the midseason party, we are more than half way through the regular season. We are we at with each team?

Spack (A) - Where everyone thought he would be. Spack is on a mission this year given he hasn't made the championship game in a few years. Although better for the league, it hasn't been better for Spack. He'll be looking to go undefeated and make a statement that Spack is still on top.

Wes (A-)- The reason ths minus is there is that Wes hasn't thrown much. What will him throwing do to this upstart Silver squad? Or will he keep him ego in check and allow himself to add to Silver's already deadly receiver corps? Should be an interesting 2nd half.

Miller (B) - Looks good week in week out, except for the blemish to Silver. Not sure he has the horses to keep up with the teams above, but his experience and talent will keep them a shot.

King (B-) - Looked real good at times, looked average others. As Red jells, they could be a tough first round out. Noone will want to play them.

Nick (C+)- Considering they have been short, playing with other temas players, their record is a minor miracle. Tying Black this past weekend might have been a reality check, as they have a tough schedule down the stretch. I see Gold fading just like the price has recently.

Noah (C) - When noah has been there and had his full squad, they look great. Unfortunately that hasn't happened much so far. Will things change? Getting McKaskie back from Africa will help. An easier schedule down the stretch should put Navy in a good spot going into the playoffs.

Colin (C-)- Last year's champ has also been a victim of the no shows. Everyone knows Colin can score. If he can slip into a decent playoff spot, he can make some noise come playoff time.

Chambers (D) - Some moments of brilliance peppered with a lot thats not so great. Good showing against Spack this weekend, need to win a few down the stretch to secure a top 8 spot.

Drew (D-) - Top 2 picks don't show for the first half. Rookie QB. Teams in a bit of disarray. Finally pulled it together a bit this past weekend. Need to win a couple of games to turn the season around. It starts this weekend against

TO (F) - The best part of the season so far was draft night. Losing TJ to injury hasn't helped, but this team is still full of talent. Defense isn't jelling, offense isn't scoring points. Need to do something to stay out of the basement.

My predictions for the Skills Competition

QB Accuracy
I predict that no one will be able to duplicate the throw that circled the inside of the tire twice and finally rested half way through the tire. Did that count or not? Should've counted as a half.

FG Kicking
Two or more of the <> soccer players will be engaged in a lengthy kick-off until one of them finally hurts himself and rolls around on the ground until someone sprays the magic water on them and they jump up and run off the field in time for the Fastest Man competition.

Longest Pout
No one will ever beat the pout that Spackman had after losing in the semi-finals a couple years ago, that lasted well over a week when he boycotted the game on the final week. Oh wait, longest PUNT, sorry about that...do we punt in this league?

Fastest Man in Whitby
We all know that whomever wins this won't really be the Fastest Man in Whitby, that's a title that will forever belong to JJ, so any victory will be hollow, it's not even worth discussing.

any other predictions?

Funny that said pouter is a victim of his own ego. Several years ago Duncan qbed an awful team to an awful 0-13 record. Not sure this bad a team has existed since. Anyways, spack won that year, and being spack, proclaimed that he could take that same awful team and win a championship with them. Up till this point, spack had won like 5 of 6 seasons.

Well spack took that team the next season and did well with them. But ultimately lost to Noah in the finals. Maybe spack lost some confidence that year, or maybe the rest of the league realized that he is beatable. Since then, spack only won once, and there has been a steady stream of new qbs with new teams that have won. Raf and noah again and Colin. In fact spack hasn't even been in the finals in th past three years.

Is spack a great qb? Of course. Is he beatable? Looks that way. Does he love to be hated like this? You bet your ass he does. He thinks it gives him a mental advantage, and it probably does.

Have many players learned playing with him? Yep. Have many players not come back after a season playing with him? Yep again. Was that incident a couple of years ago deplorable? Sure. For a league that as given a guy so much success, to piss in its face was sickening. But this league will exist well after spack goes the way of woody and fitzy. But he will have added something to this league's history

For the record, it was not an awful team, I was an awful QB. I had great expectations of the team and had moderate success in a previous couple years as a QB. After about 5 or 6 weeks of being miserable after every loss, blaming myself, I told the Exec that I was not having fun and wouldn't be a QB the following year. The Exec took this opportunity to give Phil "the X-Factor" a tryout...he was worse (if I do say so myself) and we completed the 'perfect' season. Dave took a team that I should've been able to win with and almost went undefeated, then lost in the finals to Noah (I can tell you why that was, but that's another story...perhaps over a beer tomorrow...)

Mid-Season Review
We are at the mid-season mark already?! Where has all the time gone?

Let’s quickly review my pre-season rankings and where the teams are now and where I think they will end up

Top 3 – Burgundy, Navy and Orange

- Burgundy is unbeaten and where everyone expected them to be. They will stay in the top 3 and potentially will go unbeaten this season.
- Navy was hurt by their missing QB for a couple of games, but started to get back on track last week. I still think this team is going to be in the top 3 or 4 by the end of the season and will be a tough out in the playoffs.
- Orange has been hurt by missing/injured players. This is a veteran team led by a vet QB and while I don’t think they will end the season in the top 3, they will be a tough out in the playoffs and a potential upset team from the middle 4.

Middle 4 – Baby, Silver, Green and Teal

- Baby has been a big disappointment. T.J. has been injured and no one is sure whether he will be back playing again or not. Unless they can shock someone, they will end up in the bottom 2.
- Silver has been the big positive surprise this season. Wes has even missed a few games and the team hasn’t missed a beat. Big showdown next week against Burgundy. No matter what happens there this team ends up in the top 3 and one of the favorites for the playoffs.
- Green has been what I expected them to be. They will end up in the top 4, perhaps the top 3. Not sure they have what it takes to go far in the playoffs, but we will have to wait and see.
- Teal has been a disappointment as well. I thought Chambers would be more polished as a QB this year, but he hasn’t been good enough to get his team over the hump. They will have to fight to not end up in the bottom 2.

Bottom 3 – Black, Red and Gold

- Black has been hurt by missing players and when the team isn’t that strong to begin with, they end up where they are. The highlight of the year may have been last weeks tie. Bottom 2 for sure.
- Red has been a good team, better than I thought they would be. They will end up in the middle-4 and then we will have to see if they can upset one of the top-flight teams in the playoffs. Not sure they have enough to do that, but they are getting better as the season goes on.
- Gold was an early surprise, especially with the number of players missing games. Nick has done a fantastic job holding this team together and the schedule also did them favours as they played the weaker teams early. I still see them struggling down the stretch as they have games against the 4 teams that will end up being the top 4.

My predictions for the final standings are now…

Top 4 – Burgundy, Silver, Navy, Green
Middle 4 – Orange, Red, Gold, Teal
Bottom 2 – Baby and Black

Week 6 predictions coming soon...

Hey, Dave.

I don't think I'll be out for the year (hope not!) but I'm waiting for the results of an ultrasound and another x-ray as a result of my ankle injury from over a month ago. They told me at the time that it was fine, now they think it's probably fractured with some probable ligament strain.

Up until 30, I had never been hurt. Now I'm Carlo Colaiacovo! I can see why athletes can get a rep as "injury-prone" so quickly. Hopefully this is my last one for a long long time.

In the interim, I'm hoping to be able to throw some while I wait for the Doc to read a chart and call me back with a recovery plan. I would much rather play receiver, but c'est la vie.

TJ.

Schultzy vs the World - Week 6

I would predict who is going to win the skills competitions this week, but I have no idea who will be competing. If he tries Chambers wins the FG kicking. In terms of fastest man, the rookie WR on Silver is a best-bet if he runs.

Still pretty quiet on the board this week. Thanksgiving has come and gone and we are getting into the colder, damper part of the season. Teams will start to look a little more complete as everyone wants to make sure that they end up in the top 8, so they have a chance at the title.

3-1-1 last week, making me 18-6-1 on the season. Need a couple more 5-0 weeks.

Henry North - 8:00 – Burgundy vs Gold

Spackman > Mikos, Katradis = Heath, Rafuse > Glover, Elkington < S.Bird, Thompson > P.Bird, Rigg = El-Hajjeh, Oleksik/Jeune/Roskar = Sederis/Phllips/Hickson

Gold got their lineup out last week and struggled into a tie with the Black team. That does not bode well for a matchup with the undefeated, untested Burgundy team.

Take BURGUNDY

Henry South - 9:30 – Green vs Navy

Miller < Noah, Wray = DaSilva, Payne = Matthews, Carquez = Quane, Hanley < Imai, Cain > McCaskie, Warburton/Neznik/Wodd/Highney = Benson/Fowler/Dunnett/Charmley

Both teams won big games last week and both should end up in the top 4. This should be a really good game and one worth showing up to watch. In the end, I think Navy is the better squad if everyone shows up.

Take NAVY

Henry North - 9:30 – Red vs Teal

A.King > Chambers, Dehaney < Blanche, W.King > Alexander, Klassen > Hackett, Verville < Marshall, Young < Morris, Crouter/Heighways/Scanga/Higney = Newberry/McKeon/Livingston/Blandford/Curcio

When I look at the players I think this should be a very good game and I might even give Teal the edge. Seems like they are pulling the wool over my eyes and aren’t that good, while Red has been improving week-by-week. Should be a good game, but the hotter team wins.

Take RED

Henry South - 11:00 – Silver vs Orange

C.Hadden > Wes, M.Hadden > J.Schleiff, B.Smart > M.Schleiff, Hendry < Fletcher, R.Hadden < Snyder, Big Pete = Martin, Hazlett/Harding/Julien/King < Clarkins/Lungrin/Meyer/Zmozynski

In looking at those rankings, one might give Orange a chance at winning this game. However, it is unlikely that they have Mike in the lineup (who goes on that long of a honeymoon in football season??) and that has proven to be a big difference the last couple of weeks. Silver is playing with a chip on their shoulder and I stated previously that I am going to pick them until they lose.

Take SILVER

Henry North - 11:00 – Baby vs Black

Pierre > Walker, Bradimore? = Carswell, Brooks < Eskins, Siekowski > McDonald, Sabadin = Best, Hubenig < Dionne, Schulz/Greatrix/Benight/Massey < Carter/Chappelle/Clarks

Black got a tie last week. Can they continue the upward trend against the other winless team? The rankings tell me that it should be a really good game. The tipping point is probably T.J.. Does he play or not? Is he done for the season or not? Important questions… My gut tells me he isn’t going to play, which makes me flop my pick.

Take BLACK

Eat a burger for me at the BBQ and have a cold one for me at Mels after the games!

Have fun and remember to leave it all out on the field boys!!

My Children;
Given my omnipotence, i see all. I also generally get a kick out of this trash talk board. Young Duncan has been amusing me of late.
While even i cannot be 100% certain of the outcome (the other guy does influence from time to time), and given the reduction in the number of predictors writing on the board from previous years, i feel compelled to begin a column.
Game 1 - Burgandy/Gold; While i liketh not how Spackman operates at all times, he is a great QB and has weapons galore. Burgandy wins, but if I decide to make it fairly warm Nick will be competitive. If its cold, all is lost for Nick.
Game 2 - Green/Navy; I love law and order, so my natural inclination is to go with Green. But the Navy QB is Noah, and how can I of all dieties pick against a Noah? I see green as stronger this year, so Green it is.
Game 3 - Red/Teal; Definitely red, on the basis of QB play this year.
Game 4 - Silver/Orange; My boy JC loves this Silver team, and no Mike Hadden (who i see as the top player in the league) equates to defeat for Orange. Someone asked how he could get married and take a honeymoon that causes him to miss this much football? Easily - Holy Matrimony, and JC gets the silver win he's been looking for on the week he wanted it. Silver, watch this orange team in the playoffs!
Game 5 - Baby/Black; even i don't care much about this game and like everyone else will be watching the orange/silver game. I wish TJ were healthy, he makes all the difference. If he throws and TO catches, then baby wins it. If not, look for black to win.
My children, i bless you all and leave you to enjoy a weekend full of football, fun, and festivities!

Good job on the write up for midseason stuff Tim you did a great job!

TJ, hope you feel better, never good to get hurt, especially after you've had a rough going lately. I'll trash talk your injuries for you, hope they get scared away.

Duncan, hope your feeling better we need you healthy.
