 Question about the playoff schedule and seeding.
Baby is listed as 1st, with Silver as 4th. This has to be an error, since either baby takes #1 seed after knocking off Burgnady - but then they would play gold, the 4th seed - OR Baby should be the 4th seed and Silver the top seed. Does this matter you ask? Yes, since it means that Baby should ref the earlier game and not Silver - and we all know that made the difference in the regular season and after the way baby has been playing i will be happy to take any advantage we, the good men of the silver, can get. I will not say this again, but those baby's look tough!
Then, for the other 11 game, either that game should be silver/green as the 2nd and 3rd seeds (with Green refing earlier) OR Green should be the 2nd seed and gold the 3rd seed and then gold should ref earlier.
In addition to clarifying seeding and ofcourse refing, this information is also critical to help me formulate my trash-talking schedule. Since trash-talking has clearly become something of a lost art on this board (trash that bitches), i respectfully submit that this board NEEDS me properly prepared to trash over the coming week. As a small taste - silver will win the title, that much is a certainty. The only variable remains in what order the men of the silver will systematically destroy all opposition. Will we formulate a top-4 playoff shut-out? We just might. Will we transcend into a higher form of being? Probably. Could we be the basis of the next Old Spice commercial? Already booked. We are that good.

 Snyder is right, the rankings are wrong. How did Baby become the #1 ranked team when it states that the week 2 playoff rankings are based on the regular season standing. Silver should be 1, Green 2, Gold 3 & Baby 4.

I am waiting for some brash predictions from our trusty trash-talker ... so that he can be wrong about those, too.

Did I mention already that we beat silver on the field, losing only by the technicality of starting 8 points down for failing to ref? Just thought I'd throw that out there so that the prognosticators have full disclosure to make their selections.

In the interest of fairness, Wes and Schlief weren't there either; otherwise, we probably would have won by 30.

 Just to be clear, the numbers beside the winning teams in the playoff schedule do not rank the teams. These numbers only represent the numbered game they advanced from the previous week.
ex. Baby was winner of game #1, our mistake we should of deleted the #'s when we deleted the word "winner" as we revised the schedule.

 Ah the thrills of victory and the spoils of war (well battle one at least)!! It was good to see a number of faces on the island this week. I don't think they enjoyed their trip though, with 3 players visiting and only one making a catch for 1.5 yards......but hey at least they travelled light, because the never carried the rock!!

Oh and it looks like some of the QB's listened to God last week and used their depth, congrats Baby, Silver, Gold & Green!

Boy the boards are heating up, seed controversy, which veteran QB is going get their first championship and the planning for trash talk.....

Before my boy ONE PLAY and the Divine All Mighty come and tell you what's going to happen here it is

#1 We are going to win at 11:00am!!
#2 There are going to be more very light travellers on Sleeper island this week...in fact Sleeper is leaving the island at least once on a pick six trip!
#3 The guys on the hill better get their "popcorn ready" because there are going to be even more highlights than last week's game to get here.

One final thing to "the Truth", with all respect to the great play of the Schleifers, there are no more islands available for claim this year, the sole one has and will belong to the Sleeper!!

 I will give credit where it is due. Yes, TJ posted about the seeding error before i did - just took me awhile to write my post. Being so witty while watching monday night football is hard! Colin, i am not quite sure that I understand your explanation, but truthfully i don't think i need to. Silver ref's at 930, and we play baby at 11. We are the top seed. All good. Boys, i can't ref - lets make sure we have our ref's there. Not that we would cry on the boards like a certain acronym-named man who shall otherwise remain nameless about starting down 8, but we still don't want to see that happen.

 Sorry I've been away kids, looks like Drew had it mostly under control. There is a SNAFU with the seeding though. The footnotes state that teams will be reseeded for week two based on their regular season standing, so Baby should be 4th (the original schedule actually said 4th winner or even 4th seeded winner, etc.), it was not meant to reflect the game which they advanced from (as stated by Colin above). That being the case, Baby should be reffing at 9:30, not Silver. But, as I am not on the Exec, and I gave up my position as chief bottle-washer the last two weeks in favour of sun and cerveza, I can neither complain nor correct. If I were Silver I'd plan on reffing as stated on the schedule unless someone from the Exec issues a correction; if I were Baby I'd be prepared to ref in that same eventuality.

 Believe it or not, there was a rationale as to how the reffing assignments were made. I can sit down with you and explain it, it was based on an attempt to allocate the reffing evenly during the playoffs but certain assumptions had to be made (like an 8 doesn't beat a 1 in the first round, etc.)

The Silver/Baby and Gold/Green changes were made because they were not assigned properly based on the seeding of the teams involved and the preset schedule. The assignments mentioned in the post above (Navy/Orange, Burgundy/Red) were made correctly based on the seeding of the teams and the initial schedule.

Next year if you have any issues with the playoff (or regular season) schedule, please feel free to bring them up when the schedule is posted, thanks.

As for not being able to cover anybody, you're probably right; just make sure if you throw it to somebody in my area that you're accurate, because it's just my knee and ankle that don't work properly -- my hands are fine!

Where's Snyder hiding out at? Usually he's running his yap about what he's going to do on Saturday mornings, and (as QB), I'm naturally curious about his predictions for this upcoming week. I will note he was accurate in his predictions for the game against Red, so his insight might possibly sway my game-plan.

And Schlief Island sounds like it's a fun place ... I hear they offer a free drink with every touchdown during happy hour (Saturday mornings: 11:00 - 12:30), so TO should be hammered drunk by noon!

Anyway, i did promise the readership a special treat. Carter, you are amusing, but no - it does not involve hair, and it does not involve a wardrobe malfunction.
What i have for the fine men of the WMFL is something that one of the pundits actually put into my head - a comparison of silver and baby, man v man, with accompanying evaluation. This comparison will demonstrate the total and utter dominance of team silver, and will serve to advise the readership why we cannot be beat and why we are the best team the WMFL has ever seen.
Before that though, i want to give a shout out to Steve-O for the grub he provides and cooks, as well as to the fellas who have personally contributed some cash to the weekly BBQ as well. Solid.

Perfect again last week.
On this, the second last week prior to the end of the season, rejoice in my prophetic picks.
Teal/Orange - Hadden's 8AM in a game that doesn't matter. Hmmmm, hope there's no RIDE on the way to the field!! As long as Mike makes it, Orange wins this one easily.
Burgandy/Black - Black has to hope that both Spackman and Raf boycott this game following their loss to the baby-blue crue. That would leave Scott throwing and I know he can't throw a winning playoff game (or make the playoffs as QB . . . ). Unfortunatley, they'll both show and Black is going to get crushed.
Navy/Red - Wow, battle of the disappointments. Both of these teams should have done better this year, so it should be neat to see how the season finishes up. King, remember its possible to throw under 20yrds and you guys will win.
Green/Gold - Gold is on fire right now, coming off wins at the end of the season and into the first round that many people weren't expecting. Key is which QB makes the fewest mistakes. That said, Green is just too strong and Miller is going to ride Wray all the way to a solid win. Green wins, to face the winner of . . .
Baby/Silver - So far some good trashtalk, but i want to see more or i will smite all of you down. Will Silver have the fastest man back? Will wes or the kid throw? Will baby ref before this time? All factors in what may go down as one of the better semi-finals we have seen in recent memory. Give me silver to set up a silver/green final.

 Overall, baby is a sub-standard team, who through luck and happenstance (and 5 picks off Spackman, or so I heard) were able to squeak one by last week.
This earned them nothing but the right to get beat down by big daddy silver.
Top 4 comparison (TO, TJ, Brooks, Siekowski versus Wes, Schliefers, Fletcher):
The top 4 baby players are good, and 4 years ago the league would have shuddered to play such a line-up. Since then though, TJ has become breakable, TO is getting soft in preparation for fatherhood (congrats by the way, hope it takes after the wife), and Brooks/Siekowski have become disoriented and confused due to depression suffered when the Backstreet Boys failed to reform. This top four could be competitive against a normal team, but against silver, against our incredible skills and intangibles, they don’t stand a chance. Observe the power of the Silver top 4: Wes is humble and timid by nature, bringing a quiet brand of leadership to the team, and comraderie to the league. He comes from a long line of philanthropists, a tradition he has carried on through his support of a multitude of children. How does this play into it? Karma. Wes just plain has good Karma, combined with a cannon of an arm and soft hands that just don’t drop a thing. This means he’s a winner, and so’s the team he picked. Jay Schlieffer owns his own damn island, and on it others pretty much watch when all they want to do is play. Mike Schlieffer shuts men down and made clutch catches all year. This man is a hunter and his kills are picks and touchdowns. He does not miss. Fletch wears mirrored sunglasses, not because he wants to but because he has to – he is a cyborg designed for nothing but football dominance and his ‘eyes’ are cameras that never stop tracking the ball!
Bottom half (Sabadan, Rodney, Schulz, Greatrix, Benight, massey versus yours truly, Jay W. Martin, Clarkins, Jay Lungrin, Ryan, Dave)
Really, no comparison here. Sabadan and Rodney are both good ballers, but hopelessly overmatched in this game. The other guys I don’t know, but you don’t need to know a man to crush his spirit, now do you? I have learned empathy along with humbleness from Wes (thank you!), and this allows me to at least appreciate if not understand what it must be like for these guys to go against a force as dominant as team silver. Gentlemen, I am truly sorry for what we are going to do to you on Saturday. As for our team, the W stands for Winner. ‘nuff said on that. ACATT = our own acronym; all clarkin all the time. These guys are unstoppable, just watch. Mismatch nightmare. Jay Lungrin. This man attended a method man concert and played at 8 the next day. He had a pick and two touchdowns that morning. How many human beings could do that? If you say more than Jay you clearly have never seen Iron Lung in concert. Ryan and Dave. What can I say, probably the best hatpicks ever. Just a little tidbit for baby. Dave is fine, he’s not injured at all. Unlike TJ, this guy actually heals, and he’s ready to pick up right where he left off.

You made me giggle a few times, but it looks like you got some cracks in your skin ... that's okay, it gives a place for the fear to escape. You already speak about your players success in the past tense (he MADE catches, not he will MAKE catches), which obviously belies your true lack of confidence.

And you dare attribute our success to luck and happenstance? Burgundy is a far superior team to Silver in every imaginable way:
1) a 60-20 thrashing in heads-up play
2) their offense scored 50% more points on the season than you
3) their defense allowed 20% less points on the season than you

If stats mean anything (and I hope they do ... they're the reason I play this game, and am known as a stats whore), they clearly show that Silver --as they are likewise known in the precious metals conversation -- is second rate.

Baby tried to give you a road to the Championship by taking out Burgundy, who already stomped you, and maybe a good team (Green, for instance) could have taken us out for you, but even they were so afraid that they intentionally lost their last game to avoid playing us until the championship game.

Maybe tell your hat pick to keep pretending that he's hurt and tell Wes to stay in his truck in Winnipeg so that you have all your excuses in place.

 Ugh, that really sucked… 1-4 in the first week of the playoffs. Thanks to the Silver team as they were the only game I got right. No thanks to Colin, Spack and Noah, three experienced QB’s that I expected more from!!

Very interesting final four. Two relatively “new” QBs and two with lots of experience. We are guaranteed one of each in the final too. Should make for an exciting couple of weeks. Picking the other games will be tough, as one never knows who will show up now that teams are not in the Championship side of the draw…


Henry North - 8:00 – Teal vs Orange (Ref Black)

Orange won the regular season matchup 49-41 in week 8

Teal being here is not a surprise after the tough year they have endured. Orange, however, was an extreme disappointment last week. I really thought they had the horses to give Miller and company a tough fight. Unfortunately they didn’t come with their A-game and Green made them pay, time and time again. Could we see the defending Champ in the Toilet Bowl? Has that ever happened before? Not sure, but I don’t think it will happen this year either.

Henry South - 9:30 – Navy vs Red (Ref Gold)

Red won the regular season matchup 40-6 in week 3

Red gave it a good go against Silver last week, while Navy fought hard but was undermanned against Gold. I had to check and recheck that regular season matchup, as it surprised me how one-sided that game was. I do believe that Navy was missing some fairly critical parts for that game. (Noah and perhaps Kevin too…) I don’t think this game will be as one-sided if both teams have their full lineups, but Red gets my edge because they know they can beat this team…

Burgundy won the regular season matchup in week 3

I don’t need to put the score above from the regular season matchup between these two, as I am sure no one forgot it, as it was discussed on the trash board quite a bit afterwards. There seems to be an assumption that because Burgundy lost last week they won’t show up this week. I know there is past-precedence for this, but here’s hoping that everyone has matured a bit since then. Black won’t lose by the same amount this week, but they will lose…

Gold won the regular season matchup 40-20 in week 9

Gold won the last game of the season against Green. They are on a impressive roll having won 3 in-a-row. Great time of the year to be peaking as a team. Chris Heath has been a man possessed the last few weeks and it is certainly rubbing off on the rest of the team. Green made Orange look very pedestrian last week just by doing what they are good at, not trying to do anything different. This game should be a great one. I think, in the end, that I like Green’s lineup better as a whole. I really think this game will be decided by one, single play, probably a convert miss…

Henry North - 11:00 – Silver vs Baby (Ref Burgundy)

Silver won the regular season matchup 40-38 in week 2

Shows how much I know. I really didn’t think that Baby would be able to just switch-it-on against Burgundy. Seems like there was some extra motivation there for that one, led by the friendships of the competitors. Will Baby have the same amount of motivation this week? Seems like the trash-board is helping them find more inspiration. Silver did beat Baby early in the season, with an 8-point lead, as mentioned. This game will end up being just as close. Perhaps this is giving them even more inspiration, but Silver has been the best team in this league most of the season so I will stick with them now…

 Gold sucks shit... They took down a Navy squad who had 6 players with no subs. Noah had to play D. If I was there Navy would have won. Plus my boy matthews picked off nick 2 times with a third he pushed down for better field position.
The only chance gold has is if green doesnt show up...

 Wesley, I'm like Rex Ryan for our squad over here. I'm the only one who runs my mouth and writes cheques I can't personally cash, but I'm not worried about it because I know my team is good for it.

Clarkin, it's hard to knock the truth of what you say. The only proper response would be that we're not talking about the regular season anymore. If we were, than Baby would be a terrible team. But we're talking about the playoffs, baby, and in the playoffs Baby is a juggernaut.

If we hung 5 picks on Spackman, how many are we going to hang on poor old Wes? That same Wes who led this "dominant" Silver team to a 9-8 win over Black when they were pounding their chest and touting "100"? You guys might as well punt on 1st down to save yourselves the embarassment, and just hope that I make a couple of mistakes on offence so that you can at least get a couple points.

We're gonna beat Silver so bad they're going to need a shoehorn to put their hats on.

 The National Poetry Contest had come down to semi-finals between a UofT graduate and a redneck from Oshawa. They were both given a word, then allowed two minutes to study the word and come up with a poem that contained the word. The word they were given was "Timbuktu"

First to recite his poem was the UofT graduate. He confidently stepped to the microphone and said:

"Slowly across the desert sand
Trekked a lonely caravan

The crowd went crazy. No way could the redneck top this, they thought.
