Week One is in the books... well, almost!

For the first time that I'm aware of we have rescheduled a game... the Packers and the Cowboys agreed to postpone their early season showdown to next week's open 8:00 slot since both teams were missing players who were playing in a football tournament out of town. Good sportsmanship boys, good luck to both of you in your season opening double header this week! In other news, in sometimes monsoon-like conditions three low-scoring competitive games kicked off the season, and then there was the Redskins-Patriots...

No excuses. The Patriots kicked the crap out of us. They are legit and provided that their best guys (which seems to be everybody on that team) continue to show, they're going to be hard to beat. All the credit to them, they played pretty much flawless football.

That said, and I'm not whining here, I'm making an observation: they were up 44-0 with 6 minutes left in the game, and they put an offense out with DaSilva, Mike Hadden and Matthews...and went to them for a final score.

I understand about point differential and hard play, but I question the sportsmanship of playing your 3 top weapons when you are up by 44 points.

I guess that Colin just wanted to make sure that we didn't execute our plan to score 48 points in the last 5 minutes. Well played, sir. Well played.

Sorry for the confusion!

Ron, the fact myself Matthews and DaSilva were on the field during the last drive was simply coincidence, no intent for anything else.

I played the first and last series on offence in the second half only (with the exception of one third down where we were going to kick a FG) and I know the majority of those possesions I was off Matthews was on the sidelines with me so the intent wasn't to run it up. We were only interested in not getting scored on because thats the tie-breaker. In fact the last possesion you mentioned it was Steve that got the TD.

Anyway no disrespect intended!

No worries Mike. Besides every point you scored is more fuel for our vengence come playoff time in dry weather!

Raf, is it possible to play your game this against Spack at 9:30? YOu play at 11 anyways so it should help you out, plus you get to sleep in. We would prefer the early game as we have some guys in a wedding that can only make the 8 am game? Let me know.

Oops, sorry, just saw Duncan's post about the Raf/Spack game.

Spack, we are going to be short, can we reschedule?

please read below for the reasons behind the rescheduled game
This is my response to other league executives.

Any questions, fire me an email at whitbyfootball@gmail.com

Tim

***************************************************************************************************

I knew this postponed game would obviously cause some to disagree.

The game was postponed for more than reason.
I had several of my teammates call/email/text about their thoughts on cancelling the game based on the weather. Our team wouldntve had enough to field a team. Even one of the players who originally cancelled, showed up because of how late I confirmed we weren't playing.

I offered spack two options. 1, we forfeit.  2, we reschedule.

Spack and I discussed we didn't want to play because of the rain and the damage it could cause to the field.

I've just recently bridged the gap with the VP in charge of the permits at Henry, all it would've taken was a staff member to drive by Saturday for us to potentially lose the permit.

He agreed he would play a double header at a later date if the league agreed.

Spack told me he would call his players to advise of the game being cancelled/rescheduled.

I spoke to Colin who was fine with it. I am not sure if I spoke to Mike Hadden before or after, but he to was fine with it. Mike Rafuse was unavailable at the time.  Steve voiced no issue with it.

I shouldve discussed this directly with you Craig and miller.  My mistake.
Saturday was a rush for me, with working and trying to help with league stuff.

I offered some of the players in the other late game if they wanted to reschedule if they wanted to follow suit. They all wanted to play.

Also, at the same time it was brought to my attention that Pickering had cancelled all field permits. This was a big part of the decision.

As for the rescheduled game, the date is not set. I sent Duncan an email advising him of this. It'll likely be sept 29 or oct 6th. I'm Waiting for a response from spack.

I don't think this has set any precedent.  If the weather was good, we would've played. This decision wasn't based on one factor.

It didn't help, optically, that the weather improved at the 11 am game time. At the time our players were notified, it was still raining heavily and the fields were getting worse.

It was a combination of factors, and I had no information about spacks roster. It turns out possibly his top 3 players would've been missing. That didn't factor in.

For reffing, I know Noah doesn't want to ref. I don't agree that he, nor anyone else, should have to ref the game.

It has been mentioned the exec may ref. There is coors lite offered to who ever refs.

I hope I've addressed all of your questions.

Mike, it's all good. Besides, you guys obviously had to go Matthews, cuz I had you covered like a wet wool fire blanket on the other side...LOL...

Next week is a new week. The Redskins are looking forward to exploiting both halves of the field on Saturday...

"In response to not wanting to ref:" It is not that I don't want to, its simply that I, as well as two teammates made arrangements (child care) to ref that 11 am game. And we were there after getting a drubbing and playing through the monsoon, and stayed through the whole 3rd game (drinking and watching the other game, but still there). So, yes, I think it is unfair to ask us to make arrangements again based on what happened.

With all this controversy about scheduling and cancelling, i feel compelled to explain how it is that the Giants 'lost' last week despite clearly being the better team.
Not to take away from the 49ers, who are a good team, but the truth is that the giants team was physically and mentally exhausted prior to our game - the combination thereof which led to our ultimate defeat in the closest of games.
Nick's Giants are more than just a team which operates in the community, we are a force of selfless good for all. Allow me to explain . . .
Craig, Carswell, and I had been awake for almost 3 days setting up giant fans around west lynde to blow the impending storm away - unfortunately we weren't able to get the system operating properly until 11. our apologies to the men playing in the early games. Stew didn;t make it at all - we got power right from darlington, and there was an issue with the reactor. Stew had to go in like spock in the wrath of khan - we'll never forget you brother.
Jordan, Mario, and Nate; with the help of several families of beavers (aren't you glad you didn't vote for spack now?) were able to bolster some dams which prevented what would have otherwise been a giant flood the likes of which has not been seen since biblical times from consuming all of Whitby. This took days, and only with the support of Nick and some of his staff were the boys able to understand beaver to the required level to get the job done.
So some would call the game a loss. Others would call it heroic sacrifice. Good readership, now that you have the facts i will leave it to you to decide.
I see we have King and company next week - game forecast to follow . . .

Congrats to the Steelers team on a great game. Also, great effort put forth by my team.

Felt good being out there again with the boys and especially catching balls from John once again.

Johnny, don't worry..I am looking to only drop 2 critical balls this week.

Who is this Neeraj who's balls have yet to drop, yet likes the feeling of being 'out there' with the boys and enjoys 'catching' Johnny's balls? Sounds like my kind of fellow!

Attention all WMFL scribes:

Please gather all of your excuses/reasons for a loss.
Then forward to Matt.
I think he has blown his load on excuses in just week 1 and has nothing left for the rest of the season.

He desperately needs your help!!

Carter;
Thank you for setting me straight. An excuse is still an excuse, no matter how awe-inspiring, righteous, and selfless the act. I apologize to the good men of the league.
No coordination of excuses necessary (although thank you for the suggestion Carter, it warmed my heart) since it is inconceivable that the WMFL Giants will lose another game this year.
Last week was a warm-up, and this week we have a battle plan ready to lay some pound down on the Steelers. Get ready for an ass-whuppin Kings! Yeah, you too Staff - no catches! Denied! BV - better start drinkin before the game to numb the pain! TO? Time to Go! Bart Slicker - i have no idea who you are, but you have a hell of a handle, so I like you. That's why I'm going to crush you last!

My Children;
It would appear as though i angered some people last week. i am not sorry, sometimes i just go a little more old testament than other times. So after another week of perfect picks, lets get on with the predictions:
Broncos vs Patriots
Neeraj's fetish with balls aside, i just don't see how the Broncos will be able to stay with the stable of horses that C Hadden has put together. Having M Hadden, the best player in the WMFL, plus the rest of the supporting cast versus Miller's atrocious drafting makes this one a foregone conclusion.
Patriots easy
Packers vs Cowboys
Will this game happen?
Cowboys vs Redskins
It can't get any worse for the Redskins, can it? Actually, yes it can. Rod, you thought Colin ran up the score, wait till Spackman tries to go for a hundred! You boys have some work to do, and i do think you will do better than you did last week.
Cowboys in a rout.
49ers vs Browns
Browns played well last week, with Dave asking TJ who his daddy is all game, and TJ forced to say its you Davey, your my daddy. hold me.
This week, the Browns will continue their roll, since i don't think the 49ers have the ability to cover Dave. Heath, prove me wrong and you get big kudos on this board! 49ers looked good against a giants team that played like shit on both sides of the ball - this is your chance to show you are legit!
Browns in a close one.
Giants vs Steelers
I struggle mightily with how the hapless Giants hope to even try to remain competitive against the Steelers. Steelers looked good straight off their schooling of the Broncos last week, and the giants don't have anyone who is even close to being able to cover TO or Wes. The only chance the giants have is to actually score this week, something they couldn;t do against a worse team last week.
Steelers easy.
Packers vs Ravens
TJ will be looking to come back strong after getting beat in the typhoon last week, and if there is one thing he is its a winner. look for a strong individual performance, as well as the Ravens to really come together this week. Packers look to be a very strong team on paper at least - this is my game of the week. Look for B Payne and D Caine to have big games while Drew and Ben double up on Wray. Frank the Tank, who hasn;t said shit on the board since getting schooled last year after a little jawing(what up tank?!)will get utterly owned by toast, or rodney, or younger rafuse, or pretty much whoever on the ravens is covering him.
Ravens in a close one.
that is all.
Ill talk, and you will listen, again next week.
Let there be football!!

Hey, what can I say. 1-3 last week. I sucked. Call it a week 1 mulligan...

At least I am honest about my record GOD....

Not a lot to say. Many guys missing I hear, even a cancellation. Who they hell cancels an 11AM game?? An 8AM game I understand.

Since the spacing on the trash page seems all buggered up, I will keep this very short.

8:00 Broncos vs Patriots --- Take the Patriots

9:30 49ers vs Browns --- Take the Browns

9:30 Cowboys vs Redskins --- Take the Cowboys

11:00 Packers vs Ravens --- Take the Packers

11:00 Giants vs Steelers --- Take the Steelers (no matter what Snyder says...)

Gotta go catch a flight folks.

Have fun, and remember to leave it all out on the field.

Schultzy

GOD,

Why hath thou betrayed thy name Tank?
For what hathith I donest to thee?

I'll let my play do the talking today.

Dear GOD,

It is Tank here again. I remember you stating that I wouldn't do shit today against whoever covered me. Unfortunately for you, I caught our only teams TD pass in front of Mr. Blanche himself as well as multiple catches. Not to mention I had a terrific game on defense.

Like I stated before, I let my play do the talking today.

Thank you for all of your blessings.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen
