Week 2 in the books, what have we learned?

Patriots beat the Redskins 52-0 in week 1, Redskins beat the Cowboys in week 2...49ers are 2-0 at the top with the powerful looking Patriots with a win over the 1-1 Browns this week and over the Giants who managed to beat the Steelers who squeaked by the 0-2 Broncos last week. Many pundits’ darlings, the Ravens, have scored less than 20 points in their 0-2 start, giving up less than 30 though...another team thought to be a potential champ, the Cowboys, are 0-1 having lost a shoot-out with the Redskins who scored 43 more points this week than they did last week. This is a bit of a hot jumbled mess…maybe we’ll find out more this week, or maybe it’ll just make things more confusing.

Feature game might be the 8:00 tilt between the powerful Patriots and the Packers who just got by the Ravens in their first test. Will the health of the Patriots QB be an issue in this game? We’ll see...

Let's hear you out there, have your say here, don't be shy!

I'll update the standings on the website tonight, can't do it from work.

Last week's scores can be found in last week's trash talk (other than the 33-20 Patriots-Broncos score which I didn't ask for since I was on the 20-side of that score). I also update the google calendar with the scores as I get them (usually minutes after the game - assuming I'm there). The link to the calendar can be found on the website.

There seems to a challenge getting the scores on a weekly basis. I suggest that a gamecard is issued by the execs to the team that is reffing. It's my opinion that if you ref the game you should be the one providing the final score. One of the refs should update the card as the game progresses and hand it back to an exec at the end of each game.

I agree, but the idea needed to start somewhere. Whatever works, lets get it going.

The Ravens D has been as good or better than advertised, but Ray Lewis at quarterback is showing off all the talent as, say ... Ray Lewis playing quarterback. Once I get things straight, the Ravens should be rolling. A bunch of bad throws and just a couple untimely drops has our record looking pretty abysmal, but I know we'll bounce back.

Sorry to the pundits for making you look bad so far, but that seems to be the way it goes with me at QB. Hopefully things stay to script, and we'll be playing well when it counts.

I agree with TJ. His team is still in a good place. having the extra defender makes the defense matter this year . if a defense can hold teams to under 20 points, it will win a lot of games. and the ravens have too many offensive talents to not score. tj is not great but he should last year he could get his playmakers the ball

texting...yes!! I have given my number out on multiple occasions when I am unable to hang around and get all the scores...sometimes it works, sometimes notsomuch...but really, that's gotta be the easiest option, how many cell phones are there in the vicinity of the field when the game is over? Just shoot me a quick text and then you can blame me if the standings aren't updated before sunday night!

Congrats to the Patriots for a great game. Colin was awesome. Another solid effort put in by John and the Broncos. We're getting better every week.

Also, on a side note. Thanks Spack for letting me play in the second game. It felt like old times being in a shootout with Noah as QB.

Warbird...I updated the standings with the original score before I saw your post which seems to disagree with your QB's account...The standings reflect his score, if someone corroborates your score I'll switch it for next week's standings.

I just realized that we play Miller's Broncos on Saturday. If you thought Peyton Manning played bad in the 1st quarter on MNF, just wait until you see what happens to the WMFL Broncos on Saturday morning!

John called me yesterday to say that the sun was in his eyes and that he broke a pinkie nail, and asked if his team could just forfeit and save themselves the embarassment.

I told him, "I like ya, John, but the Ravens plan on handing out beatings for the rest of the year, and you're first up". I just hope that it's not so bad that John thinks about quitting the league or retiring altogether.

So saddle up, Donkeys ... it's gonna be a rough ride!

#52, Ray Lewis. Quarterback.

with the NFL Giants setting the precident the first week with a Thursday loss and then the WMFL Giants raising the bar last week to give the NFL team something to shoot for... it might be advised for the pundits to wait for the outcome of the Thursday night game prior to their decision for this weekends game...

Well pundits - how you like them apples!?!?! The Giants are now on a freight train to the championship and i can't see anyone strong enough to force the breaks! Talk now pun-dicks!
Last week the Steelers fell to the might of the Giant empire, as forecasted!!
This week, down with the Cowboys! I would trash talk, but that just somehow doesn't seem fair given the clear personnel advantage that the giants have. Cowboys will put on a fight, this will easily be the game of the week. But in the end, the giants will dominate AS IS THE NATURAL ORDER OF THINGS.
To the hill - stay tuned to this game, old 50/50 will be 100% catching Spackman passes!

Week 2 Mailbag

Q: Those new NFL uniforms are real slick. I did develop a blistering rash after wearing it though? Are they real Nike or Niike? - Anonymous Guy on the Patriots

SG: Well Anonymous, do you think it is really the uniforms or who you are keeping company with Friday nights? Just askin..

Q: Two weeks in and besides the Patriots, is there a team that has shown either "Championship" or "Toilet Bowl" talent?

SG: A monsoon the first week, a weak rescheduled game from two of the preseason top teams, a tournament that many WMFLers attended, attendance has been suspect, a team getting thrashed 62-0 and then beating Spackman with just enough to play, a 7-6 defensive battle, the only think I am sure of is today is Thursday.

Q: I am thinking of wearing eye black to help with the early morning sun? I am also thinking about using it as a billboard for some of my opinions, some of which are umm controversial? Good idea?

SG: Why not? Go for it. What can possibly be wrong with that?

Q: Thanks for answering my question about the "Hill" last week. It truly is an amazing place. Even the monsoon from week 1 didn't deter Steve from bringing out the bbq.

SG: Why not add to it? Make it "Tailgating Whitby". Just remember, keep it clean, and clean up after. Last thing we need is complaints that shut us down.

Q: I have been showing up early to watch the game before us, I play our game, and then typically stick around on the hill and watch the game after. I go home, exhausted, watch some US college, pass out, wake up to watch the Argos, and the prime time US college game. I then wake up Sunday around 10, do my Proline, put my fantasy lineups in, and watch NFL from 11:30 am to 11:30 pm. Is my marriage in trouble?

SG: You think? I think Tuna is running a draft league on Sunday mornings in Oshawa, that would fill up your Sunday morning void once she kicks your ass to the curb.

Q: I am in a Fantasy Football league, WMFL Edition. I need help with my team. This week I am torn between starting Dave on the Browns or Tim on the Packers?

SG: Yes, these are my readers.

Mr. Lewis,

A lot of confidence and brashness. On another day, I can appreciate it that. But now you are going after my QB.

I would like to mention that we have identical records and that John and the Broncos have outscored your Ravens. I see know difference on Saturday my fellow Donjoy friend.

Only 2 right last week you say... Guess I need a new contact in the WMFL to get accurate info.

2 right, 3 wrong. 1 more right than last week. Guess I will just keep it going UP.

Working awfully hard for another league this week, so not alot of time for my picks. I will keep it short again.

8:00 Packers vs Patriots --- Pats have looked good so far, but the Packers are a step up from the Broncos and Redskins. --- TAKE THE PACKERS

9:30 Cowboys vs Giants --- NFC East match-up this week. Cowboys lost a tough one last week and that usually doesn't happen twice in a row to this QB. ---TAKE THE COWBOYS

9:30 Broncos vs Ravens --- Ravens have shown impressive D and no O. Broncos got better last week, but not enough. This week it will be --- TAKE THE BRONCOS

11:00 49ers vs Steelers --- Call be a bandwagon jumper if you want, but I am liking what I see from this 49er team. Steelers, not so much. --- TAKE THE 49ERS

11:00 Browns vs Redskins --- Perhaps we spoke too soon about the Redskins. Noah is experienced and will get what he can out of this team. I was on the Browns bandwagon too soon it seems. However, I think they are better... --- TAKE THE BROWNS

That's it for this week folks. Have fun, and remember to leave it all out on the field.

I smell pundit fear. No one play, no GOD. Shultzy not talking a lot. All afraid of the power and utter dominance of the giants!!!
TJ - you don't have to worry about Miller retiring, he thought he would have to retire at the end of this season, but when i explained to him that mandatory retirement at age 65 had been abolished he will now happily be able to come back next year.

Last week hs was throwing to the Broncos team that stepped up to help them out!

Our defense is far too good. I don't think that Brady has a chance to pick apart our secondary. We will hold them to a dismal performance at best. Good luck in the Superbowl! Oh, wait a second...

Give the Boys' credit. They let Noah throw to his old buddy Neeraj. Great sportsmanship...bad move. Maybe the broncos should get half a victory out of it.

Sorry I missed last week but I think I would have only got one right. Hadden to win
Let’s see how we look this week.

8:00 Henry North 2 - Packers (Raf) 7 - Patriots Colin)

Looks like Colin has settle nicely with his team. I think they will most likely be the top 3 and even beat the Packers in this close one. I hear Packers look good without Tim vs. Ravens tough Defence.

Patriots by one half of a play

9:30 Henry North 8 - Broncos (Miller) 6 - Ravens (TJ)

TJ seems to be struggling with his team offensively. Defensively they have been very good. Can’t see Miller scoring much against TJ I think I remember last year TJ having a slow start but then stepped it up around this time. So Miller im sorry but TJ looks to be the Fav. Here

Ravens by One Play

9:30 Henry South 10 - Cowboys (Spack) 5 - Giants
(Nick)

Snyder you suck (just kidding bro) keep up the trash talk you are the only one that keeps me wanting to post. As for this game you are going to have a huge beating this game I think Spack has this in an easy win and if his number 1 shows you would be better off staying Home.

Cowboys by way more than One Play

11:00 Henry North 1 - Browns (Ryan) 4 - Redskins (Noah)

Here is a tip for the Redskins to win. Don’t throw an out towards the sideline where Dave is he will pick it off and score a TD before you can even now what happened. With this great tip I will assume you will take it and I will pick you to win.

Redskins by only One Play

11:00 Henry South 9 - 49ers (Chambers) 3 - Steelers (King)

Steelers had bad game last week but I see a brighter side this week. Chambers is adjusting well has a good defense. But I think they will fail this game

Steelers by One Play

That is all for now and Remember the game can come down by only ONE PLAY. (Just ask the Ravens )

Hello,

Most of you probably don't know me as I played in the league only one year. I have some bad news that I have to pass on. My good friend Terry Trofymowych
passed away today. I know he hasn't played in the league for a few years but did love playing in the WMFL, and I'm sure still has many friends in the league.
