Playoff schedule has been updated.

I don't mind, because I just want to have fun on Saturday (and I missed the game against the 49ers), but seeding the C, D, and toilet bowl based strictly on points against should have been made clear before the games this past weekend. It might have changed the intensity level of the end of games.

A garbage time Hail Mary that we all laughed about moved us from the C to the D. It's very strange to have regular season standings mean nothing, and go strictly by points against all of a sudden.

All that being said, if it is what it is, I look forward to playing Chambers and the 49ers this Saturday. I had been excited to play against Miller, but I guess that'll have to wait another year.

Ray Ray, you should learn to read, the tie-breakers were posted along with the entire playoff format a week before the playoffs began, nothing was added to the format, including the tie-breakers.

As for discounting the regular season, that's what pretty much the playoffs do - if you win it doesn't matter what you did in the regular season. The rationale behind using PA instead of regular season on the losing side was that it was preferred that all on the losing side had a chance to win the "C" - using regular season the best the 10th place team could hope for was the D, and it was unlikely that the 9th would have a shot at the "C" either (though they would've been in it this year thanks to both the 9th and 10th place teams winning in week 2 of the playoffs, which is unexpected in any circumstance).

And really, does it matter who plays in the "C", "D" and "E"? Not really - well, actually, the "E" has more 'prestige' associated with it than the "C" or "D" - and BTW, the top loser after week 1 (based on regular season) would not have had the opportunity to play for the Toilet Bowl using regular season standings as tie-break for week 3 match-ups.

Hope that helps you to understand how we got to where we are.

I tackle, I don't read.

Really, I don't care either way, I was just looking forward to playing Miller. It'll still be great fun playing the 49ers, so whatever.

I didn't read the format because I thought it was straight forward. The way it has been set up makes sense, I guess, it just never occurred to me.

All we can do is beat who they put in front of us.

We already beat the Broncos in the regular season.

49'rs beat us without our QB, so this is a revenge game!

(Need to motivate myself to be out there at 8 when we thought it was going to be 9:30)

I am smarter than the rest of you, but I choose to use my influence over space & time to avoid riffing in the playoffs rather than to win championships (well, there was that one...). Call it the ultimate in Spirit of the League.

I think less of the Snow Bowl though, that's why I've won the last 4 of those! Early plug... Snow Bowl, registration begins at 9am, first game at 10, Super Bowl Sunday!

Another good regular season memory..

In the Ravens-49r's game, we struggled without our QB,.. and also one of our more seasoned veteran players.

Our grizzled veteran showed up just in time for the 11:00 game.
Unfortunately, we played at 9:30

Go Ravens!

TJ,

I was looking forward to our game too buddy. I missed our early encounter. It would have been nice to play against my physio buddy..

Although, I am playing with a bit more confidence these days and I still remember Alex making fun of me because your surgically repaired knee was stronger than my good one...and this was 8 weeks into rehab.

With that said, it will be fun to play against the Steelers in the rubber match. I look forward to chasing Wes for 54 yards for a 9 yard hook.

By the way, great game against the Browns. Back and forth.

Great job Johnny! We had to make plays at the end to preserve the victory. I also found out first hand Dave Z is the real deal.

I forgot to post a reminder/confirmation to all that we will be gathering back where it all started the last Thursday of August with the drafting of teams.

The YEAR-END PARTY will be back at Mel's after the final game. If you're not hanging around to watch the finals (and why wouldn't you?) then plan to be at Mel's by 2PM. There will be prizes, food and all the beer you can drink (bring your wallet) so you don't want to miss this!

Good luck to all this weekend, thanks for a great year Exec. Seeya on the field, on the hill and back at Mel's!

I don't know what hurts more... Being reminded that I'm a dumbass and missed the game... or being reminded that I've become an "old veteran"

being a grizzled vet is inevitable and you would be surprised with the amount of respect that comes with it! plus guys are ALWAYS buying you beer at the year-end party and at the draft ;)

but...being a dumbass...well, what can i say?

enjoy the beer that the younger players will be buying you on the hill and ESPECIALLY at Mel's at the year-end party, I know I will!

Duncan, hate to tell you this, but the young guys are buying you drinks 'cause they heard that you'll put out.
Speaking of old guys and young guys, I would like to recognize Dave Carter for beating a man 31 years his junior on 2 or 3 passes in a single drive, including a nifty over the shoulder deep route catch.

So as I see it, anyone who can get M. Hadden drunk before the final game will be rewarded with a 12 pack of their favorite beer. Now, this level of drunk must meat particular requirements. Should a ball be thrown his way, he must be capable of vomiting on the field before it gets there, slip in it, fall, and leave the ball wide open for a certain Army Combat Vehicle to obtain possession of it. Either that or have him passed out on the side line. Both are perfectly acceptable.

I would also like to take the time to thank Jesus and Spack for giving me a perfect interception last week and allowing me to make an old man look even older when I broke his ankles. I know I've got about 15 years, at least, on the bugger, but sometimes it feels great to make a QB look bad by not drafting certain players.

Have fun next week everyone! Let this Championship be a memorable one! And good luck in the Toilet Bowl!

Have you ever drank with any of the Haddens? I have, and I can tell you that the reward you're offering will not even scratch the surface of the materials required to complete the task you are offering the reward for. Also, although Mike has been known to drink his fair share (and yours too), he is not an alcoholic, so that means you'll have to drink with him - which means that you'll need double the materials, one for him, one for you...c'mon, Mike, just one more, I'll have one if you have one...So, now we're looking at probably at least two cases of beer, but wait, there's more...you really need back-up for this sort of endeavour, trying it on your own is pure folly, so now you have to find a friend with similar skills and triple the amount of alcohol to be on hand...we're looking at 3 cases of beer and a significant time commitment...and you're offering a 12...lad, you're heart's in the right place, but you've got a lot to learn still...

To follow on to that further TANK...

Having played a few years with Mike, the small amount you are proposing will only ensure that he catches that ball; after slipping on his own vomit and yours, getting back up and tipping it over your head into his own hands on the way to the end zone...

You are better to focus your efforts on a different attack plan...

Hey guys,

I just checked the playoff schedule and noticed the Redskins are reffing again Saturday. I am a little surprised as this will be the 3rd week in a row, compared to some teams not reffing at all. I personally cannot ref this weekend (i have the last 2) and have sent a note to my team. Most have gotten back to me and also cannot for legitimate reasons. I am not whining, and understand a the schedule is the schedule and appreciate the work done to create it.

Having said that, I do not want to see the Ravens and 49ers not have a ref for the early game, cuz i like these guys (well, i like everyone except for Chambers, still not over it yet Jason). So, if anyone else can pull a Carter and help us out, there will be some beer involved. We ultimately will take the 8 points against us, but I don't think that is the point here.

I`m on the Patriots bandwagon this weekend.

From what I have seen, they have too many options on O and had the upper hand in one-on-one match ups all season. Colin did a great job finding and exploiting these poor match ups. Their D was also solid all year long and stopped a lot of big plays at the right moments.

I`m taking the Pats by a few scores.

Championship weekend is here! This is the weekend for Canadian Football to shine.

Friday night the Vanier Cup between Laval and McMaster, which hopefully is a similar game to last years exciting finale.

On Sunday the Grey Cup between Toronto and Calgary at the Rogers Centre. A great matchup for the 100th Grey Cup.

And right in between those events is the WMFL final weekend at Henry Street High School in Whitby. 5 games Saturday morning to wrap up an excellent 40th Anniversary season.

Everyone bundle-up Saturday morning. The day is supposed to start at about 0, with a wind chill of -5. Good old Canadian football folks, perhaps a few flurries even.

Last week was not a great one for my picks, 2-3. I did get both Championship semi-final games right, I just struggled with the consolation games.

Here are the picks for the first 4 games. The final will be in a separate post.

Henry North - 8:00 – TOILET BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP – Browns vs Giants
Giants won 31-22 in week 6.

As the playoffs wore on, the “Trash Talk” board got quieter and quieter. Snyder and the Giants have become much quieter now that they Trophy they are playing for looks like a toilet. The Browns haven’t played too badly the last couple of weeks, but I am not sure they have enough to win this one. Unless the Giants decide to cover Dave with Snyder, this game will probably mirror the season game.

Take GIANTS in a good game…

Henry South - 8:00 – D CHAMPIONSHIP – Ravens vs 49ers
49ers won 18-9 in week 8

After a very successful regular season, the 49ers have laid a couple of eggs in the playoffs and find themselves in the D final. Most of the pundits (all the others seems to have disappeared...) looked at the Ravens roster and expected them to be in the Championship run, so both teams enter this final that they didn’t think they would be in. Again, I don’t see the Ravens being able to hold the 49ers to just 18 points again, but the Ravens O has also come alive in the playoffs, so I think they will certainly score more than 9. The winning TD will come from a long pass to Ben B, book it!

Take the Ravens…

Henry South - 9:30 – C CHAMPIONSHIP – Broncos vs Steelers
Steelers won 14-7 in week 1
Broncos won 32-20 in the first round of the playoffs

As we reach the final weekend, there are three teams that are riding a hot streak. The Broncos couldn’t get themselves into the top 8 teams at the end of the season, which is too bad as they are playing really well right now. They got to the highest final they could have from last place. The Steelers pulled a win out over the 49ers last week, so we get a repeat of the week 1 playoff matchup. If the Broncos remember to cover Chris and Wes deep, I see a repeat of that game.

Take the Broncos

Henry North - 9:30 – B CHAMPIONSHIP – Redskins vs Cowboys
Redskins won 43-38 in week 1

Both of these teams ran into buzz-saws last week and didn’t win… They both like to put lots of points up, regardless of how many defense players are on the field. This game should be a shootout, similar to the week 2 matchup, with the team that has the ball last winning. One factor that may swing things is the revenge factor.

Take the Cowboys

Henry North - 11:00 – WMFL CHAMPIONSHIP – Patriots vs Packers
Patriots won 44-28 in week 3.

These two teams have been on a collision course all season, since that week 3 game. Let’s look at the details…

QB – C.Hadden vs Rafuse
These are two of the more experienced QB’s in the league. Prior to 2010, the concern would’ve been Colin’s big-game play. He has overcome all of that in the past couple of years. Call this one EVEN.

#1 Option – M.Hadden vs Wray
These two are two of the hardest working players in this league. Neither will be willing to give up on any play and both will be focused on the task at hand. Again, I think this is EVEN.

#2 Option – K.DaSilva vs Payne
Kevin has had a great season, especially since there were questions about how healthy he was at the start. Ben is a tall and solid option for Mike and just quietly goes about his business. I think both will make a big play at some point in this game, but I have to give a slight edge to the PATRIOTS on this one.

S.Matthews vs Katradis
Tank talks a lot and plays with extreme confidence, but usually backs up all his talk. Matthews is a little quieter and surprises everyone at least once or twice a game. I have to give the edge on this one to the PACKERS, though.

R.Hadden vs Carquez
The battle of the big men in the middle. Both play hard every play and are important pieces of the puzzle for their teams. That safety blanket for their QB’s in the middle. Neither one sticks out as being hugely better than the other… Call this one EVEN.

Sabadin vs Cain
Cain was a “secret” weapon for last year’s Championship team from Green. This year he is not so secret. Sabadin is a solid player, but this is a big edge to the PACKERS

Rest of the Team
Both teams have a couple good players that have made important contributions to their teams playoff runs. The big ones are Hugh and Steve O for the Patriots, and Ciaran and Steve C for the Packers. In the end I think this matchup is EVEN.

Adding things up, I see PACKERS 2, PATRIOTS 1 and 4 EVEN matchups. In the end, and you don’t know how it pains me to say this, this game may come down to 1 big play. It may be a long pass, a simple knockdown, one bad pass picked off, or even just a simple sack, but this should be one of the best finals in a long time. Neither team will allow itself to be blown out.
PACKERS or PATRIOTS, PACKERS or PATRIOTS, PACKERS or PATRIOTS… Can you tell I am having a tough time making a choice?? I will go with the math above…

Take the PACKERS

Remember folks, 2 early games this week and only 1 late one…

In the other, less important games of the weekend, I think I will go with McMaster on Friday to win the Vanier and the Stampeders to take the Grey Cup on Sunday.

I have had fun doing this and filling in for Schultzy, but this will be my last WMFL column. Thanks for listening…

I have to live and die by the updates on the website. Great recaps and comments all season, then NOTHING for the final weekend results. I know the league doesn't cater to the non-participant fan, but come on, give us something!

Where are the winners gloating? Where are the losers making excuses? Where are the random shoutouts to teammates and the Exec?

Any what happened to Snyder?

Game was rigged. I calls em as I sees em. Missing two key players as well. The wind wasn't favouring us either. The sun wasn't right. Hadden thrives during solar flares. The planets also were in line so Colin was on his game. The universe was against us really.

Hey,

I see the draft is being held in a new location this year... New sponsor? Lost old sponsor? Mel's was very good to the league. Did they have enough of people not showing up after games?

As the draft is a week away, who are the QB's this year? Also, are there some regular names absent from the registrant list this year?
