Speaking of stats - I think there is an error with Frank's. Pretty sure he scored 60 points and had 8 picks today, not on the season. Frank - you were a monster buddy, great game - we had no answer for you on either side of the ball. Fun game though!!!

Well week 5 is in the books! A lovely cool fall day for football resulted in a perfect week of picks for the dubbed “blowout weekend” 16 out of 20 games correctly picked on the season now. Teams are vying for a playoff spot as it comes down to the wire, remember, the top 8 make the playoffs!

What did we learn this week?

Nick Clarkin seems to score at will everyweek solidifying himself as a top dog. He can add to his point total against the weakened team black this week.

Team Grey doesn’t seem to realize that tanking will not get them the top pick in next years draft, maybe they are even trying to miss the playoffs and will fall out of the top 8???

Colin and team orange got back on track against team white, really creating the gap between the top 4 and bottom 4 teams.

Team Green defense looked awful, or did Drew throw amazingly?

QB controversys: Frank as QB!? Drew as QB for team black looked good vs Green! Colin showed he is back on track and there is no controvery in Orange town.

This week’s picks:
Difficult week to pick with thanksgiving causing attendance issues.

Green vs Carbon Game of the week!!

Carbon looked great last week, even if it was against a bottom feeding team. Frank is on fire this year, man on a mission, AND HE CAN PASS (Friday night lights quote)!!!! Green looked awful on defense vs a weak team Black, other than their pass rush lead by Folco. I am worried Noah and Frank and T.O and company will torch Green’s defense if they do not get things worked out, no easy INTS this week for team green. Higney will also give them problems. Expect Carbon to score a bundle. Green is still rolling on offence, Jelani is throwing great, as he always does during the regular season. The Frank and Z matchup should be interesting to watch, Franks 8 interceptions and he will be looking for more. The focus on Z should open things up for Mario, Russ, Taylor and Kitch. This game will be a close one but it will be decided by WADE GULLEKSON!

Carbon takes the high scoring matchup 50-42

Orange vs grey

Team orange always seems to have attendance issues and this week could be a scary one as they see a weak opponent and may not show up. On paper this has the makings of a blowout. Joe, tim, Mike, Ben are unbelievable athletes that grey simply cant matchup with. Mark, alex, dustin pete are solid players but not in the same class. Much like the Packers, journeymen, hardworkers but not outstanding athletes outside of A Rod. Big Play Luc will have to make several big plays to keep this one close, or at least to help his stats which are almost as important as the regular season wins and losses. Tim, Rodney and Jules will have big days here as the focus will be on the big guns. Orange will score at will, Grey will struggle on offense regardless of who plays QB (68 Points through 5 games?! Common MAN!). RYAN ISHMAEL is the man of the day though. Luc won’t have to worry about his stats being correct after this one, as there will be no “big play” on this day.

Orange wins 34-12

White vs Red, the Santa Claus game.

Both teams suffered ugly losses last week. The biebs attendance is questionable at best. I am going to assume he shows up to make this pick. Still no Neeraj. Nick is still throwing great this year. No one on team red can keep up with Girogio Hairboy Mikos. They will be keying on Hairboy here leaving things open for Brooks, Fowler, and Reynolds. Can they get it done? I am not so sure. Red’s defense lead by willy vets Snyder Face, Craig the exec, and Jay will find a way to slow down the White Out. Red will be looking to bounce back offensively here, no longer are they facing the supremely talented Frank like last week, but Hairboy and Jomo. TJ, Will and Adrian will draw the attention and leave Miggy, Warbird open. Even with the attention on them, I am not sure White can stop Will and Adrian’s speed (Did you see Adrian's chase down last week!!) and the ageless T OBJ J. Vegas probably has the odds on team White here, but I am picking Red to win it. CIARAN HICKSON, this is your time big fella!

Red wins the Santa claus game, much to the chagrin of Saint Nick (See what i did there?)! 28-20

Blue vs Black

Insider information (actually everyone knows) that Dyl Pickle will not be at the helm here due to a nasty stomach ailment from the several hipster craft beers he drinks, so he cannot throw, but he will play receiver. Will drew throw again? He looked good against team green. This game has the makings of a stat day for the clarkins and a blowout but I see this game being closer than Vegas will think. Muragtrod matches up very well against the Hobbits of the Shire. Aaron the toothless hockey player wonder has the height to win some jump balls. Sajeev has sneaky speed to get behind the D. Team black will score here. However, Blue will clearly score a bundle as well. Jake is fast enough to keep up with one Clarkin, and if Fab shows up he can grab the other (however Fab is mysteriously absence lately, probably lost in the nexus of the universe where 1st street meets 1st street). That still leaves Brandt, Daryl, Staff, and Duffy open. Spack will find the holes for Nick and Kyle (Not a sexual comment, this is football). The man of the day will be on team black. DAAS (AUTO) NATHAN. Blue still wins.

Blue wins it 48-28

Power rankings have no change this week. All the teams who should have won, won last week. Watch for next week, Red to overtake White (Only to lose it when Neeraji returns)

Carbon
Blue
Green
Orange
Red
Black
Grey
As the Great Rick Danko said during the Last Waltz, (directed by Martin Scorsese, Released in 1978, look it up, best concert dvd ever) “Happy Thanksgiving!”

The same way Carbon only has given up 68 points..

Well, not the same, the opposite.

Both are impressive, but the really impressive part is that 20 of those points for both were when Carbon played Grey. So how did Grey score 20 on Carbon? Or how did Carbon give up 20 to Grey?

My understanding is that it's quite possible that it might be Turn Back the Clock night as the Jay Gun might be facing the Spack Man, Saturday morning. JJ might be the worst QB to ever throw in this league, but vs Spack for some reason it was always close. Wouldn't that be something, if it was a game after the coin toss.

For anyone interested, my budding entrepreneur of an 8 year old, Ethan, will be bringing his shop to our fields this Saturday. So he'll have ice cold G2, water, pop, chocolate bars, and gummy candy on hand for anyone looking to supplement their BBQ festivities. Bring some change and support the cause (which, near as I can tell, is buying things in Minecraft).

Calling for a solid 60% chance of precipitation for Saturday morning, tailing off to around 30% during the games. Hopefully the scattered showers don't damper the BBQ and make the field conditions pretty slippery.

Tighten up those cleats and don't drop the ball! With some QB's out and the weather a factor, this may move the odds a little bit.

@Playoffs interest in playoff format is a bit early but I'll indulge. We play a round robin format with teams 1,4,5,8 playing against each other and 2,3,6,7 playing against each other. The top 2 teams of each pool cross over with the top seed from Pool A playing the second seed from Pool B and likewise for the other side. The winners from those semi final games face each other in the finals. Same thing happens with the bottom 2 from the round robin with the winners from the semi finals playing in the C final and the losers playing for the Toilet Bowl... sorry, D final. While everyone makes the playoffs, which pool you end up in can make a huge difference.

Many great players in this league without a title.

@wmfl exec
I do not agree. It matters not where a team finishes in the regular season.
Why? Let me tell you...
Because team red is gonna beat you all down throughout the playoffs, and not only that but also earlier starting earlier with a solid throat-punch, stomp-down, arse-whoopin' of team white this Saturday AM.
Happy Thanksgiving League - you can all kiss your championship wishes goodbye. RED!!!!!!

Been a while since I have thrown a touchdown in this league. The last time I did that was never! Maybe I'll need to try my luck at quarterback as well. 8 new QB's next year! That's my vote!

Green, You are in for a butt whooping on Saturday! Carbon is absolutely crushing it on both sides of the ball and there is no stopping this freight train. Dave Z, get used to being shut down because you are going to be blanketed all day long.

@tank
Your schedule has been weak. You have yet to play the green machine or your best buddy spack and team blue. Congratulations on picking on the weaker teams. I am sure teams go out celebrating their herioc performances after beating the Cleveland browns (not). Your artifical confidence is a byproduct of the schedule makers/exec....wait arent you an exec? Funny how that works.
I have cut my hair to be more aerodynamic and thus you will be unable to cover me. If you win, ill buy you a case of beer, you strike me as a cosmo drinker though? If we win, and you score no touchdowns and have no picks, you cut your hair, Deal? Unless the all important regular season is enough for you?

@Z

After dominating the first 5/7ths of the season, I am in prime form to dismantle a Green team that is playing as well as a broken guitar. My hair is my speed secret! This mane adds 12 horsepower and 3 ft/lbs of torque to my stride. I'll be running circles around you on the field.

As for your little side bet, there's no chance I take you up on the hair cut. Noah is clearly unhappy that I flaunt my hair around and will bench me for most of the game. I will however take you up on a loser buys a 24 for the winner. I have been eyeballing a new case of Michelob Ultra. Or some of your personal home brew perhaps. Expect to see some new dance moves when Team Carbon is celebrating in your end zone!
