Big thanks to Charlene (the nice lady Glenn tricked into marriage, and the mother of a couple of our best players), and Stevens, and all the folks who planned and executed the BBQ yesterday. Lots of fun and good eats. Also shout out to Ethan for running a sweet tuck-shop!

I echo Snyder's comments, everything was great and that was all thanks to the effort that went into planning and preparing. I think Stevins has been preparing since last season for this moment and it showed.

I also want to acknowledge the winners from the skills competition:

Longest field goal - Jason Chambers
Longest punt - Geoff Kitching
Accurate QB - Dave Warburton
Fastest player - Frank Katradis

Almost as good as there being only one winless team in the league....

We’ve got you all thinking we are shit but we are going destroy all of you in the playoffs when it matters. Don’t under estimate us you will regret it.

Also thanks to team blue for letting us pick up a couple of players. Class act boys.

First of all, great game Green, that was a ton of fun. Hopefully we will get to do it again in the playoffs.

I do want to clarify the rule under Time Keeping based on the last few plays of our game.

A penalty during the last 3 plays does not count as a play unless penalty is refused.

The situation was we had the ball with 4 plays left. We ran 2 plays and decided to punt ( I know shocker!) on 3rd down, which was the third play. We took a no yards penalty on the punt. Now based on the rule the way it was written, the ref called it correctly, that it should not be a play, as Green did not refuse the penalty, they were awarded two more plays.

However, the spirit of this rule is that the offense does not refuse the penalty, it does not take into consideration a change in possession.

It is clear that the change in possession confuses the rule. I think we all will agree that green should have only received 1 more play and of course the ten yards for our No Yards.

Just want to make sure the rule is changed to be clear.

What criteria did you use to come up with that top ten???

Nick above Frank? Sure Nick is a nicer guy, better looking, smells better, better hair and better personality but Frank is the MVP of the only undefeated team in the league.

Then you have Spack and Jelani ranked higher than Noah. Sure both those guys can play both sides of the ball and can run the 40 in less than 10 seconds flat but again, Noah is the QB of the only undefeated team this year with a high octane offense.

Andrew above TO, c'mon man! Really???

And then you finish the top ten with TJ and Luc? Yes great guys and ballers but look at their teams' records...

No representation from team Orange or team White and somehow Snyder doesn't make the list???

That's how I know your list is full of shit!

TJ is definitely more valuable to his team than TO. TJ not there and Red loses 60-8. TO not there for Carbon and they win 60-8.

Name one sport where team record does not factor into the MVP conversation?

Of course team record plays a deciding factor... how valuable are you to a team if you don't have any wins. You could have a team of less than average players and have the same record.

Frank has got to be leading the MVP conversation at this point of the season. And if anyone witnessed the game TO put up this weekend, his stock is definitely on the upswing. Nick is definitely top 3 in this league and after this coming week's games he may take over the number one slot. But until then, its frank's to lose.

Just because TJ is valuable to red doesn't mean he's a league MVP.

Any 10 in this league would provide the same value to that team as TJ. Not to take anything away from TJ but that team without their top player isn't going to win a lot of games and probably won't be able to stop many, if any, teams from scoring (a lot) on them.

I figured I would rehash a little episode from the Carbon huddle, as it seems relevant to the MVP debate going on. This past weekend we played an extremely strong and skilled green team, and realized quite early that every point would be important if we wanted to come away with a victory.

We were down by two just before halftime, after driving the length of the field, we were left with 2 plays on the 16 and ¾ yard line. The first play was a perfectly executed corner out where I underthrew TO slightly. (If I am being honest, he should have had it, but I realized early on, star WRs are primadonnas and need a little coddling, so sometimes I take blame for the good of the team).

Nevertheless, its last play of the half, we get the ball in the second half, so a TD here would be real nice. I look over at the sideline, where your MVP Frank is watching. (Notice he is watching, not on the field on a very critical juncture of the game.) He is screaming over for us to kick the FG, arms and hair flailing wildly. I hesitate, come back to the huddle, make eye contact with each of the 5 men in the huddle. I look again, at TO, who doesn’t say a word, just nods confidently like Jimmy Chitwood on that last play in Hoosiers. His eyes say “Just get me the ball”. I again peak over at the sideline and Frank is still jumping up and down like a deranged lunatic. No Frank, we aren’t kicking a FG today.

I don’t know what’s going to happen over the next month, as we have seen time and time again, Any Given Saturday is very real, and a motivated team can get hot, or it can rain. All I know is that I am very confident going into battle with these ten Carbonites. Would I prefer the Clarkins, or Neeraj, or Dave Z, or TJ, or Mike H, or Luc, or Snyder? No way! (Until next year when I pick you guys, then its totally different.)

Ok, back to the story, last play before half, ball on 16 and ¾ yard line, need a TD badly.

Ready, Set, Hup…

Whoever wins MVP is in the back of my mind. Couldn't care for it. What matters is that Carbon takes home the 'ship at the end of the year. This team is built just like that... as a team. Even in crucial situations, this team can pull through without their number 1 on the field. To go for it was clearly the right call and that's what King Noah does best. Makes the right calls.

Look out Royal, no team has slowed us down yet and no team is about to start either.

Well 6 weeks in the books. One more week to go in the all-important regular season. Orange and Red let me down last week dropping my picks down to 18 correctly picked games out of 24. Final week in the playoff push! And perhaps final week for stat hogs, unless we keep stats going into the playoffs?

What did we learn this week?

-We know Frank has long hair, we know he is good at football, but we didn’t know he is the fastest man.

-Neeraj came back from his vasectomy early to beat Red! My sources of information ruined me there as he was apparently back the week before just didn’t play balls out (see what I did there).

-We still do not know if Noah will ever lose, they look strong on offense.

-We have not learned anything about team orange, they are an enigma wrapped in a riddle

-Grey is capable of winning a game!! And Luc is showing his worth as a top flight pick. Even getting an MVP Ballot

-We also learned the Warbird has a glorious arm to match Kitch and Chambers with their legs.

-Sources say Dyl the Thrill will be playing next week to get off the shnide against team grey.

-Dave Z owes Frank a case of beer to be determined based on last weeks bet.

This weeks picks:

Red vs Orange

Will orange play well or play down to their opponent? Will Red suffer against a better squad on paper as they do? Who knows? Not I, but I will try (Rhyme time). On paper this matchup looks more evenly matched than one might think with aging team Orange in Mike, Tim, and Ben all on the wrong side of their primes. Red has the speed of Adrian and Will to keep up with Oranges guns. Snyder, Jay and Craig can find a way to shut down Mike H, Tim and Ben. It is really a wonder Red doesn’t play better on D. They should step up here. Red’s offense showed some life last week. Miggy, Warbird and TJ will give Joe, Tim, Jay and Rodney fits. Both teams are under performing here. Quarterback play hasn’t been ideal for either team. Orange will find a way to score with an experienced QB late in the season when it matters most. Jules is the difference maker here! TJ Hadden may have something to prove vs his former namesake so I am not confident picking orange but I cannot see Red using their receivers optimally to get the most out of them. Michael Machado, this is your time!
Orange wins 32-22

Blue vs Carbon
Game of the week

The battle for the top seed here, perhaps a finals preview? Both teams have looked stellar lately. Blue seems to have taken their foot off the gas as of late with less blowouts than they became accustomed to in the early goings. Carbon knocked off a solid green squad, albeit a limited green squad. Very interesting matchup with Noah looking for T.O and Frank as often as Spack looks for Nick and Kyle. All 4 are top dogs in this league. Neither team will be stopping the other duo. So expect high scoring. Spack and Noah have battled it out countless times and will game plan against the other. The difference here being Spack will design his D to stop Noah. Noah doesn’t always play D, however Frank knows what Spack likes to do and should set up the D correctly (although he couldn’t against green last week). I like Blue’s Brandt, Darryl, Staff, and Duffy over Carbon’s Nigel, Josh, Higney and Wade. Colin Goodall this is your time to shine! However, Stevins made wonderful burgers so I am leaning towards blue. Overall- Neither team will stop the top duos, and if they do, which supporting cast will be there? Blue has a better supporting cast.
Blue takes round 1 (rematch certainly later)
Blue wins 48-46

White vs Green
White was firing on all cylinders last week with a healthy roster for offense to make this game more interesting. Green lost a nail biter to Carbon, their offense was clicking as usual however the defense was abysmal and something needs to be done before playoff time to right the ship. Interested to watch the Z vs Girgio matchup. Or will they even match up and cover each other? Neeraj and Mario match up well. Top dogs should cancel each other out here. Green’s supporting cast with a highly underrated Russ, and Kitch and Taylor (if healthy) looks a bit more intriguing than Jomo, Brooks, Fowler and Reynolds. This game will come down to quarterback play. Jelani has looked great this year, Nick has been steady. Ill take great over steady. Jay Palmer and Kuben, This is your time to shine!!! Green will score a bundle vs an average defence. White will score but not at the same pace, perhaps a kick return from hair boy beibs to make it close but not enough.
Green takes it 38-30

Grey vs Black (Winner makes the playoffs!!!)
Wow Dyl Pickle must be upset this isn’t the game of the winless he marked on his calendar. Instead it is his buddies with a win last week in miraculous last play kick return fashion with a win first. I will assume Dyl the Thrill will throw and Fab will play to help make these picks. Luc will be riding high this week after his heroic performance and trophy hoisting last week. Fab and Luc are similar players, good on offense, great on defence. They will cancel eachtoehr out. Andrew Muratroyd has established himself as a top flight player this year and I am not sure grey has an obvious number 2 option. Grey gets solid contributions on O and D from Dustin, Mark, Alex and Hazlet nation. However, Drew, Jake, Hockey Boy Aaron, and JJ match up well and very similar players. This is a game for Dan Nedeau and Martin Stirjas to stand out! Both QB’s have been shakey, King has the advantage of playing more often with Dyl coming off injury. Both QBs can play solid D. This will be a close game. An awful game to watch perhaps, but close. Punters will make their money here with 3 and outs often. I like Black’s supporting cast if they show up and are not demoralized that this is an important game to make the playoffs.
20-12 Team Black!

MVP talk is all the buzz so I shall weigh in

QBs are MVP, Not even close, a team can win a evenly matched game without a top receiver, not if they are missing their QB. Carbon Blue and Green would not be where they are without their QBs. Noah is playing outstanding and is a likely candidate, however spack and Jelani both play D very well. Edge to Spack.

Players (MOP) Most outstanding player
Frank and Nick battle for top spot. Both putting up huge numbers on offense and are uncoverable, Frank with slightly more impressive defensive play. Both can kick. Frank gets the edge here, not only after showing his blazing speed, but because of his ability to make catches in traffic and win the jump ball.
A way back from the top two dogs are Murgatrod (Does it all for team Black), T.O, Kyle, Girogio Hair boy Beibs, Luc is a standout on team grey, and Z (Z has done didley on defense this year though)

Power Rankings
Carbon
Blue
Green
White (Up a spot into the top 4 and healthy at the right time)
Orange (Dropping a spot, very hit and miss performances)
Red
Grey (A win!!! Up a spot)
Black

In Frank's defense, he was gracious in victory earlier in the day. He did not gloat that I now owe him a case of beer. He must have used up all of his class for one day perhaps. Ideally he uses his classiness (is that a word?) up early in the day this week and brings his trash talk to the field vs spack and the clarkins.

I hope the Biebs shows up Saturday to play the Green Machine. I would bet a case of beer with you, Giorgio, but I am not sure you are old enough to purchase one for me when Green wins. You also strike me as a strawberry daiquiri kind of person.

QB comparisons:
Noah: Matt Ryan a la' 2016. Immobile, accurate, but has a great offense so it is hard to tell if he is great or is it just the players around him? Freeman/Frank? Julio/T.O.

Spack: Brees. Similar stature. Quick release. Top flight QB and sure hall of famer. Brilliant offensive mind. Accuracy and deep ball on point

Jelani: Marcus Mariota. Great young qb. Mobile. Arm strength is good not great. Accuracy is great. Playoff performances TBD.

Colin: Big Ben. Won the title a few times. Talent all around him every year. Maybe aging a bit and a bit banged up. Still has the huge arm. Likes to go to his top dog receiver.

Dylan: Deshaun Watson. Excellent athlete. Arm strength okay. Very coachable and leadership skills. Has good games, very promising future. Just not there yet.

Nick: Philip Rivers. Accurate qb. In previous years have had a top offense. Aging a bit. Arm strength in question. Can still get it done any given Saturday/Sunday trust his receivers to make plays.

King: Cutler. A quick retirement and he is back. Huge arm. Maybe biggest in the league. All the talent in the world. However, Is he mentally in it to run an offense and check it down when necessary?

Chambers: Andy Dalton. Been around a long time. Gets his team to the playoffs often. Plays well at times and puts up big numbers with a top receiver AJ green/TJ. Playoff record? Enough to win it all?

Notably Missing is an Aaron Rodgers, a clear top talented QB above the rest.
Tempted to Put Spack to Brady as a love him or hate him, won the title a bunch and can win with any group of recievers.
Also tempted to have Chambers as Stafford. Nick as Eli. Jelani as Carson Wentz. Dylan as Carr (oft injured). King as Flacco. Colin as Cam (Hit or miss games).
Agree? Disagree?

Disappointed that I didn’t even get an honourable mention from Cris Collinsworth. I’ve always really respected his posts, so it’s making me question my abilities and what I bring to the table. Considering I’ve only played out for three games, and didn’t get a chance to run the score in a blowout like a Frank or a Clarkin, you’d think I’d at least get something. I guess Red’s games haven’t been compelling enough for him to watch from the Hill. Thanks for the original shoutout from whoever got ripped for his MVP list. Haha.

Probably the best comparisons I've ever read about these quarterbacks. Spot on. Noah (or Matty Ice) is abput tp atone for laat years Superbowl loss since there is no Brady to topple him. Freeman for 6!

Spack until last year was on the decline. He hadn’t won in about s decade. Colin has 3 in the past 7 years and is always in the mix. Noah also has 3 or 4 titles and is top 3 every year no matter who he plays with. Nick is steady but will need a great team to have a shot. He has had a couple of great teams and not been able to make it happen. jelani might be the next one but had had some great teams and last year choked in the finals. Dylan has had a tough year with injuries and lack of top guys showing up. Chambers has never really threatened but I feel guys enjoy playing for him. Adam should have picked the clarkins.

Black by 1.5?....not happening. This Grey Defence is playoff ready and not to be taken light(grey)ly. This has been one long practice for this team. Last week 3 sacks on one drive, Luc on the INT leaderboard, multiple key 3rd down stops? Oh and their offense is rolling and eating up the clock.
