I can't speak for @Playoffs, but typically the 2 early games play out. The other late game (that plays at the same time as the championship) often turns into pickup for a half and then everyone watches the game that matters.

So the Toilet and C games play out and the B doesn't happen.

Excellent games yesterday guys; looking forward to seeing who wins it all in what has probably been the season with the greatest parity in recent memory. Good luck to red n blue!
Today we remember those who gave their lives and risked their lives so we can enjoy the lives we do. WMFL show your respect and remember!

BREAKING:

Reports indicating that Red’s 2nd round pick Mario Listro is unhappy with his role as #2 to Frank, and will be sitting out this weeks finals in protest. He is rumoured to training in Cuba in preparation for next years draft.

More to come.

He could have gone down a week earlier.

Last year kickoff return and this year damn 3rd and twenty.

I would hate him if he wasn't so damn likable.

So in your opinion, is Mario a first round pick next year, and if you had a do-over, would you have taken him over T.O. in the draft?

Hell no, I ride with TO.

(unless next year I pick Mario, then its all about Super Mario)

As a QB, you can't have loyalty. Unless somehow you are Jelani and cheat and get the first pick every year and its all about the Z.

Thanks Noah. It's been a pleasure speaking to you this evening. And there you have it folks: Mario is a big game performer. If it weren't for his clutch play in key moments, Noah would have won the big game last year, and he would be defending his championship against Jelani this coming Saturday. We might just see Mario work his way into the first round next year.

Next up: We're going to catch up with Kyle and see how he feels about the accusation of Jelani cheating to keep getting Z in the draft year after year. After all, he could have taken anyone with his first overall pick. Is he questioning if he should have blocked with his brother Nick, or should he have done a last minute change? Blood runs thicker than water, but a championship is a championship, and Dave Z & Jelani are playing for in the big game for the third straight season.

Picking anyone on Blue to be a better player than anyone on Red is a Joke. Red dominates across the board. The last two games have proved it and this coming week will be no different. Blue is going to find themselves leaving the field empty handed as Matty Ice becomes the first rookie QB to win the WMFL title. This team of young players is poised to finish this championship run.

This is a lot of pressure for your youthful team. But you milenials grew up in the social media era, so a bit of online banter is nothing for you. I’m sure you can overcome the head games and avoid a collapse like last year.

At first thought I give the win to red. But then I think about how Frank made 3-5 catches and had at least 11 drops in the semi. Frank is not a big game player. Someone else will have to step up like Mario did last week.

Great game Red and good luck! I am still sour about the loss... Our group of unathletic geezers were so close!

Don't choke again hat thrower....

It’s day 2 of media week here in Whitby and the hot topics are: Z vs Tank, other roster comparisons, and the merits of an Oshawa League B Championship for Raf. So let’s get to it:

Z vs. Tank:
Whitby: Tank - 104 pts, 6 picks. Z - 78 pts, 3 picks. Advantage Tank.
Oshawa: Tank - 38 pts, 6 picks, 2 DPG.. Z - 162 pts, 8 picks, 1OPG, 2 DPG, 4 MVP. Clear advantage to Z. More importantly - they both played for the Thundercats. Would Tank have scored more if Z hadn’t stolen all of the THUNDER? Maybe, or perhaps he would have scored less while drawing double coverage.

Other roster comparisons:
Jelani & Mike Raf - both play for the untouchables. Mike Raf is the QB, Jelani the utility man who also acts as a half back.
Matt Raf, Mario, Brett, Rob, and Kitch all participated in the B division finals. They received a trophy for walking on the field, but we do note that they scored more points than their fellow participants that Sunday. We know Mario is absent, and Brett, Robbie, and Kitch weren’t contributors on O. Look for them to battle on the corners, and one of them to rush limiting Raf’s ability to scramble. And that my friends may be one of the keys to the game: Raf identifies when the D is in man and bracketing Tank, so he calls the half back to his brother, runs a corner route, burns the rusher and gets a first down or a major. Will Robbie, Brett, & Kitch lock that down this week? Time will tell.

Finally - I caught up with Z today at his place of work. Teaching elementary school phys-ed, he has his students running cone drills and the agility ladder. He said: Normally we play wrenchball, because if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball. And the ministry of ReEducation is saying that using tools in class is a now priority. Plus, it keeps kids sharp to memorize their times tables and long division. If they are having difficulty, we bring them back to the gym for some more wrench throwing. But this week is an exception and I’m doing a little self-serving practice for the big game.

And there you have it folks. I hope to catch up with Tank tomorrow. Until next time, let’s see if RB can throw a wrench in Red’s ambitions this Saturday.

@Nigel
While I understand that my drops grow exponentially each day that I'm not playing, you would have to think that mathematically, the catches would grow with them. I remember that my drops were sitting at 2 at one point and by the end of the game, I had 8. now that I'm up to 11, I can only hope that my drops reach a peak by Friday before the crash or 2018 has them plummeting back down to 0 for Saturday. I know you're rooting against your favourite former teammate, but be sure I'll do my best to give a little beating to Jelani this weekend for you.

@Adam Schefter
I didn't play offense in Oshawa. 30 of my 38 points came from defensive touchdowns. It was a rare occasion that I caught the ball from my own QB.

@ Frank's Demons

Here is the thing, and to paraphrase Rene Russo's character in Tin Cup in response to Roy McAvoy's epic meltdown on the 18th hole of the US Open:

We gave up 22 unanswered points in 9 minutes, that's unreal! No-one will remember who won or lost these years.. But everyone will always remember the 35-14 meltdown. When our kid'd kids are playing in this league decades from now, they won't know who beat who in 2017 or 2018, but they will all know the story of the comeback! It will be sewn into the very fabric of WMFL lore for eternity.

It’s day 3 here in Whitby and I was able to catch up with Tank.

AS: Welcome to our studios, and thank you for joining us this morning. How does it feel to be back in the championship game this year?

FT: You’re welcome Adam. It’s a pleasure to speak with you. The people at ESPN are so much more professional than those at Fox. I first heard that Erin Andrews was going to be here as well, but we’ve got history. She won’t get an interview until I’m the champion and I can say ‘I told you so!’

AS: Let’s keep this positive. Everybody likes to throw the word trash talk around, but we’re all friends here, and Erin is a great colleague from a fellow network. You wouldn’t trash Z, and I won’t participate in negative talk about her.

FT: Fair enough Adam. Then let’s talk football.

AS: Well it looks like you’re already predicting victory. Do you guarantee it?

FT: Yes sir I do. No way I’m losing this year.

AS: We’ll there’s some confidence, but there’s no I in team.

FT: Sure there is. It’s inside the A-hole.

AS: Ah yes. I’ve seen that meme. So let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Last year your team was up 35-14 in the second half, but miraculously Jelani came back to win it 36-35. How does that play into your pysche going into this game?

FT: This offseason was devoted to healing. First - I cut my hair after nearly two years. No matter how long I sat in the shower, long after the hot water was gone, I still didn’t feel cleansed. So off it went.

AS: You donated that mane to cancer right?

FT: Yes sir. I’m a decent human being despite what all the haters say.

AS: Well that’s a noble cause. And you travelled too. Is that correct?

FT: Definitely. Once my hair was cut I embarked on a mission to Thailand.
AS: A mission? I didn’t know you were the type. What church?

FT: No, no. A mission to party. I wanted to blow off some steam and light it up. Full moon parties get a lot of hype, but it was actually the no moon party that was the illest.

AS: A no moon party? Please indulge our listeners.

FT: A no moon party happens about 12 hours after the full moon party. Revelers continue dancing on the beach as a supernatural light fills the sky. But unlike the moon, you can’t look up at this object. Some end up blind, but the true champions dance through the day. You might say you need tank grease running through your veins to go on that long.

AS: Well that sounds like quite the party. How did that help you prepare for this season?

FT: It was a full blown reset. I have no recollection of the six months that preceded Thailand.

AS: Let’s talk about Saturday pickup at Anne’s Street Park. You were there for a few games. Not a regular though. How did that help?

FT: We’re supposed to meet at 10:00, but the games don’t usually start until 10:30 ish. One Saturday I showed up at 11:45. I got ridiculed for being late, and I was only there for about 2 series before the game ended. But I needed to feel what it was like to be Jelani and not show up for a game until 11:45.

AS: Well there you have it folks. Let’s see how this Saturday plays out, and if Jelani shows up at 10:45, 11:45, or if Red and Co. can turn him into a ghost for the entire game. Thanks for being with us today Frank and best of luck on Saturday.

Ahhhhhhhhh This is the Herd!

Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, we are live in Los Angeles, I-Heart-radio, fox sports radio, and on FS1. The Herd is sponsored by Untuckit Shirts !
Joy Taylor is joining me on a Wednesday!!!.

Playoffs!!?! Not a game, not a game, we talking about playoffs!?!?!

We got a lot in store today so Let’s start with this:

A segment we like to call “Where Colin was Right, Where Colin was Wrong” Or mostly, where colin was wrong!!

Orange vs CB
Orange rolled. Both of these teams are mailing it in now and looking to grow as QB’s and or improve their draft stock for next year. Got this game incorrect.
White vs Coal
Who cares? Same story as above. Got this game wrong
Real games:
Red vs Black
This was the game of the week with the game going down to the wire. Black gave Red a scare. Weather was an issue with the cold and wind. Red’s D stepped up when they needed it most in crunch time which bodes well for them moving forward. A big win, yet an uncomfortable win as this game was much closer than they would have hoped. A great finish to the dismal season for team black. Look for Noah to reload next year and be back in the mix. I picked Red in a blowout but it was much closer than one may have previously thought.
RB vs Silver
I thought this was going to be a close game but it wasn’t. RB looked comfortable and in control all game. Silver looked a bit chaotic. A great first season for the Silver squad with Kyle at the helm, look for the Kyle and Nick duo to be dominant for years to come. RB is moving on to other business.

Finals Breakdown:
These teams have played twice already with Red winning both comfortably. Red is the sure fire favorite here. But boy its tough to beat a team 3 times in one season. Team Red seems to have the better athletes as well as the better scheme in this game. Will this game get ugly like the finals with Jelani vs Spack a few years back? I think RB can keep it close. The Matt and Frank duo has been unstoppable this year and without attendance issues for other football commitments this teams record could have been much improved. Matt is already a Champ this year in Oshawa. Can he add a rookie Whitby QB championship to his mantle? Has a rookie QB ever won? The Jelani and Z dynasty have nothing left to prove after getting to the big game a third year in a row, with some would say a less athletic roster. The player break down has been done above but other prognosticators, I don’t nessasarly agree as I feel red is the clear power house here, however, the best players don’t always win. Red will be sure to score as Blue has struggled to stop them this year, having Frank and Bryce and Dustin and Mike leave no breaks for the Blue D. Kitch, Taylor, Joe, Jelani and Z will have their hands full. Specially with halfback plays and Matt running routes. The loss of Mario is neglgiable with the ability of matt moving around buying time for his players to get open. Blue needs to put a solid rusher on Matt but even then, Matt will make time. Man defense will be a killer with all that time, and speed on the red side. Red will be able to score a bundle. On the other side of the ball red has shut down the blue squad with ease, but the loss of Mario will show here. Z will be covered by frank and still make his plays but they cant go to Z everyplay. The focus on Z will leave holes for Best, Joe, Rodney to get open. Red’s D has been a force and I can see them causing Blue fits. All that being said, anything can happen in the finals. Red is the huge favourtie and may come in super cocky. A little adversity may shock them. Whereas we know Blue has faced adversity and overcame it last year in the finals as they return several players from the championship suad last year. Red better keep the pedal to the metal and not let up on blue. Red will take an early lead at half. Blue will make up some ground but come up short in the 2nd half. A great season for Blue making it this far with a subpar roster, they can only hope the pressure of overcoming the Frank curse will get to Red.
Red wins 38-28. Matt is the Hero

Until next year!
Have fun at the banquet and don’t drink and drive!

Finals in the snow? This is unacceptable! Will a snow crew be hired on to clear the field?

I'm genuinely excited to be watching a finals where the team who overcomes the obstacles will win. How will Tank and Z handle the slippery conditions? Will Taylor be playing at full tilt in poor conditions with an injury looming over his head? No Mario will cause match up problems for red but Matt is a first round defender.

Back to back years of poor weather in the finals. I think Jelani has found his calling. Big advantage to Jelani as his team is full of experience. Too many young players on team Red will be their downfall as not many of them have had to face these conditions.

Well here we are again! This year was quick to end.
We learnt a lot about all the new Qbs and the old ones as well. Looking forward to a great game tomorrow!

Hadden Jr (Orange) vs Tim (Coal Grey)

Not much to say on this game
Orange by ONE PLAY.

Spackman (White) vs Dylan (Carolina Blue)

Again not much to say here,

White by more than ONE PLAY

Kyle (Silver) vs Noah (Black)

Close game for black last week While Silver fell apart early and could not find the end zone.

Silver by ONE PLAY

Now to the big Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jelani (Royal Blue) vs Matt (Red)

Red looking good last time theses two teams met But Red had Super Mario and by the sounds of it he will be MIA. RB turning it around last week jamming it to Team Silver. and maybe having Taylor back Should be for an entertaining game. I would normally say Red but knowing of these new circumstances I'm going with
with a nail biter

RB by ONE half of a PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until next year

PLAY safe stay dry and warm and remember it all comes down to that ONE PLAY.

What a week Whitby! As a follow up to our ESPN 30 for 30 - The Four Falls of Buffalo, we are going to begin production on a sequel: The Two Tanks of Frank.

And here’s a tidbit of one final interview that I was able to get at the banquet.

AS: so Kitch, you had a baby in the middle of the season. How was that?

kitch: it was greatest gift ever. When I was drafted I was questionable for the knockout rounds, but then he arrived 5 weeks early so it didn’t really make a difference.

AS: yes, you missed the thanksgiving classic when RB played Red in the regular season.

Kitch: correct. And I was slower than molasses for the next few weeks; but it all came together.

AS: your wife is up for MVP as she pulled an all nighter last night so you could be rested for the finals. Is that that true?

Kitch: absolutely. She’s awesome. We played it by ear, but the stars aligned and it all worked out.

AS: some people say you take this too seriously. How do you respond to that?

Kitch: well I work for the government, and between having a baby, WMFL, and work, something had to give. So I made I filed the paper work faster than Stanley from The Office.

AS: so is Stanley your idol?

Kitch: no, I’m more of a fan of Kevin.

AS: and there you have it folks, Jelani is the champion again, and has plyed in he big game each of the past theee seasons. Looks like a dynasty is in the making. I look forward to reporting on your league next season. In the mean time, add me to Instagram so I can write absurd interviews that nobody will ever read.
