Glenn is washed up. He's had his moment of stardom. Week 2, Glenn gets a beat down from teen Kelly Green.

Contenders

Matt, Noah, and Spack look like the real deal. Matt won't rest till he wins a WMFL championship. Noah and Spack have less to prove, have been there before, and watching their teams play just make things seem easy. One of these 3 will be the champ come November. Bank on that.

Maybe?

Dylan has the arm and the best player in the league. Almost pulled off a minor upset on Saturday. Just can't see this team competing with the aforementioned 3 when it counts. Jelani would love to win a 3rd in a row, and 1 without Z, but this team doesn't have the horses to win a ship this year. Their ceiling will be semi-finals. Kyle has four of the fastest players in the league. Their D will be stingy. They will win a couple of games that will make some think they have a shot, but then they will lose some they shouldn't.

Pretenders

Warbird had a rough outing in his first start, but it won't be this bad all season. His young picks will get better and his mid draft veterans will steady them. It may be a long season, but you will see improvement every week. Glenn almost stole one from his son. Scoring 21 points just isn't going to so it in this league, and that's where I see their average at. Not Glenn or Warbird's fault, they got thrown into the fire. QBing ain't easy.

Get me some Week 1 recap posts and inject it into my veins! Cowherd where you at man?!?

Contenders and Pretenders list is pretty OK but a little early to already count Dyl out, no?
The two 9AM games will show what 'Contenders' are made of.
Can't wait... Thank God/Snyder for the short week.

2.Vet QBs Spack and Noah contend every year
3.Jelani, Matt, Dylan, and Kyle will all win titles over the next 10-15 years
4.There may be more than 15 first rounders this year in the league
5.Power rankings after week 1: Noah, Spack, Matt, Dylan, Jelani, Kyle, Glenn, Warbird
6.This week would have told us more but rumors of tournament weekend affecting attendance, as was stated, the early games would have been telling

Haven't finished outside the top 4 in scoring in the last 3 years. It'll continue this year. Green had a tough week 1 but will learn from it. Things will change quick.

Ahhhhhhhhh This is the Herd!

Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, we are live in Los Angeles, I-Heart-radio, fox sports radio, and on FS1. The Herd is sponsored by Simply safe security for your home!
Joy Taylor is joining me on a Wednesday.

Time for a segement we like to call where Colin was right and where Colin was wrong.

Silver vs Yellow (Silver -4.5)
I was wrong on this one! I assumed spack and silver would come out flying and blow the doors off of the young yellow pups with a 10 point win and cover the spread. Yellow kept it close and actually should have won the game if it weren’t for a timely drop for the win. They only lost by four so I was wrong on my pick but more importantly both teams looked stellar. It was not as if Silver played poorly, Yellow just hung in there. Look for these two teams to face eachother in the playoffs! Spack cant be happy almost losing to a bunch of toddlers on team yellow.

Blue vs White (Blue -6.5)
Very close game here wow. I predicted Blue to win by 8 and cover the spread but the willey old vet Glenn was able to keep it close. Blue did win by 2 but not enough to cover the spread. I know all of the speed on team blue has kyle wanting to go deep often, but just give it to your horses in open space and let them make a play! Once this a one game wonder for both teams or was my assessment of White’s ineptness purely wrong as well and White may actually steal some games. I will be careful not to call them contenders yet, as they still did lose. Blue, you have some work to do (and so do I, getting both 9 am games wrong against the spread)

Black vs Red (Red -2.5)
Aye, aye, aye what have I done, another game picked incorrectly. I picked Black to win outright by 4. Matt got his finals revenge and won by 20 with a 60 burger on the board. Jesus really came to play against the team he won the championship with last year wow. Red’s tall basketball team is looking mighty fine right now actually, I guess it is a good thing this isn’t tackle, everyone knows basketball players are football players who can’t take a hit. Red proved they can ball out in touch football. Team black, its back to the drawing board and figure out what went wrong, a lot of veterans on the team to look to for help, Jelani, Mug, TO, Walker, Kitch, Common Man!!

Purple vs Green (Purple -16.5)
Well I finally got one right, I picked Purple to win by 22, and I even mentioned I felt generous fiving Green 20 points to lose 42-20. Blow out city. Noah and his top dogs looked great and he spread the ball around to everyone to score. It was a shock Frank couldn’t cover all 5 receivers! That being said, I am not sure this tells us much about purple, or is it more just green is incompetent at the moment (Sorry green, I call it like it is). Purple looked good yes, but this is more indicative of Greens struggles. I had green ranked 8th, perhaps they should be 9th? I can’t see a win happening for Green unless there are attendance issues on the other side of ball. Purple, I need to see how you fair against Yellow.

Wow 1-3 against the spread on week one. Brutal start for me.

Time for Colin’s Blazing four (Five picks in the NFL in case you are curious)

I am worried about attendance issues with provincial’s weekend for TFONT, which is a shame because the matchups are great as the Vegas odds indicate.

Red vs Silver (Silver -2.5)
Both QBs could be absent for this one as they play TFONT. I will call it as if they are playing for fun’s sake. Spack has the edge in experience, accuracy and play calling. Matt has the edge in mobility and arm strength. Edge Spack. Again, Jamie and Bo both playing TFONT could be absent. I feel like Bo has the advantage on offense but Jamie’s athleticism, ball skills (catching a ball), and defensive in unparalleled. Edge Jamie. Joe James vs TJ, TJ should be absent, Joe will be there. Joe is also the hero last week, however, if TJ played he is an elite player. Even here as Joe is getting better year by year. King and Staff vs Mario and Jake, very close here, but slight edge to Mario and Jake due to Mario and King being similar but Jake has more speed than staff (albeit staff does have the experience). Mike and Tyler pale in comparison to Jack and Harrison on team silver. Brad and B Clarkin vs Tim and S Clarkin cancel out here. The bottoms of the draft are also similar and I need to see how they are used on their respective teams to give a better analysis. All that being said, I think Silver would take this game by a score or even two if it was even strength. I have no idea who is going to show up or not, but I think red has more guns still coming.

Red wins 24-20 in a low scoring affair.

Purple vs Yellow (Purple – 3.5)
Noah vs Dyl is an intriguing matchup. Dyl has the arm and the athletitism. Noah has the experience. Sometimes experience isn’t all its cracked up to be as we had Jelani (if we remember, very new to WMFL, go to the finals 3 straight years). Give me Dyl in this one, with a great start last week. Tyler and Joe vs Z and Jordan would be a great match to watch as both Tyler and Joe are excellent players, one a larger athletic target like Z and the other more shifty like Jordy. However, sources tell me Z is going to be absent at TFONT, so give me purple in that matchup (I don’t see Tyler and Joe having 6 combined picks again). Neeraj and Ben vs Bryce and Steve. Neeraj is an exvellent baller on O, and Ben has flashes of brilliance as well, but both Bryce and Steve can play both ways exceptionally well and Dyl has figured out where to line them up on O and D, team yellow here. Dustin, JJ and Rob vs Ben, Aidan and and Jomo. Yellow seems to have the clear edge here with Dustin and Robert Wilson having the potential to become top tier in this league. I need to see more from Purple’s bottom 4, but John was able to put up some points and I just like the name Tenzin Loden, it sounds like a Bond Villian. Miggy and Jay are common faces in the league and Parker proved reliable so again give me yellow here. I feel Purple is too top heavy, Yellow has more depth.

Yellow gets their first win 30-26

Green vs White (White -4.0)
Another great matchup. The QB’s are comparable, but I like what I saw out of Glenn, and Green just had too many INT’s for my liking. Give me Glenn here. Frank vs Giorgio would be great to see, a family battle, however, Frank may be at TFONT. Otherwise I would go frank here. Frank has been elevating his game year by year on both sides of the ball. Tim and Grae have the edge over Colin and Chris. Colin and Chris could be in for a rough inaugural year on this team sadly. Daniel and Will for white have the clear edge over Waleed and Dan. Higney and Duffy are even steven with Rob Edwards and Brett though, all 4 players have tons of experience, perhaps too much??? The bottom 3 for each team will be tough to be utilized with QB’s still finding their footholds in this young season so I will call them even for now. Sorry for the shorter write up on this one guys, but this could be 2 teams destined for toilet bowl glory. White has the edge nearly across the board here.

White covers and wins 30-12

Black vs Blue (Pick’em)
I don’t like what I saw out of either team last week. Jelani may be at TFONT, but give me the edge to Jelani in this one across the board, except perhaps arm strength which could be actually to kyle’s detriment as he likes to show it off. Nick and Luc will have a superior speed edge vs Mug and TO (as they will against nearly all top players). Nick leads the way here which pushes Blue ahead, Mug and Luc are both rising stars in this league. Remy vs Walker has the experience edge to walker, but the fastest man in whitby will have the edge over nearly all 3rd rounders so edge again to blue. Craig, Rodney and Taylor vs Kitch, Jay and House. Rodney and Taylor are playing their former championship QB here. I have to give the edge to team black with Kitch, Jay and House for their consistency though. Snyder and Pete vs Nigel and Mark, Snyder wins all matchups all the time, and Pete is uncoverable, edge to team blue. All that being said, it looks like Blue has the better team, but I struggle to pick against the better QB. QB’s change the game. I will take black to win.

Black wins a higher scoring matchup 36-30

There you have it! Bet the farm on these picks or parlay them for a big win!

Finally the Herd Hierarchy:
1 Silver still up top for now
2 Purple, hard to move them after a blow out win.
3 Yellow, a close loss to a top team still has me believing
4 Red leap frogs blue with an impressive win over Black
5 Blue, looked shakey but I still have faith
6 Black, a lot of work to do to climb into my top 3 teams
7 White kept it close there, a win is in store soon!
8 Green. I may be able to copy and paste this line all season

@Dyl

Sorry Dyl, too late. Walked by Neeraj's desk this morning and he already has your Barney post printed out and plastered all over his walls. He is staring blankly, mumbling incoherently about Goulets and Zs, foaming a bit at the mouth.

Tried to tell him you were joking, but he is almost catatonic right now.

That was no typo, Yellow is just getting talked down. They're for real. 'Youth' and athleticism can beat anyone!

Dyl's for real! Heard Snyder even calls him on Friday nights to calm him down so he can sleep before gameday.

First week in the books! Some team looks strong and others surprising. I picked the winners correctly but a couple scores were WAY off. A quick recap of last week:

Game 1: Silver v Yellow
Both teams looked even as the game progressed. Spack and Dylan appeared to have no rust as both have been throwing all summer. Dave Z and Jamie both looked like number 1’s, beating each other for scores. This was about as evenly matched as you could ask for. Neither team blinked and the game came right down to the end. This could be a finals preview.

Game 2: Blue v White
I can say that I was shocked by the play of both teams. I expected Blue to pummel White but Glenn held on tight. Not only did he hang on, but he was robbed of the win on a play that should have never been. A chance to win on a field goal went wide right and a single point loss was the end result.

Game 3: Black v Red (GOTW)
This game was wild from the start. Black leading by 10 at half and looked to be in complete control of the game. Red come out guns blazing in the second and took over control. 46 points in the second half by Red gave Matt’s crew a 20 point win.

Game 4: Purple v Green
Unfortunately, I predicted this game fairly close. A blowout by Purple, although I didn’t expect it to happen the way it did. 7 interceptions and I was told that 3 were taken back for 6. A tough first outing by the Warbird but keep your chin up! A long season gives you time to get better! Purple was missing Neeraj AND Payne on top of this. Noah will be a top 3 team this year heading into the playoffs.

With TFONT occurring, I will analyze each team with full attendance. Let’s take a look at week 2.

Game 1: Red v Silver
Matt Raf < Spack
Bo = Jamie
Joe < TJ
King = Mario
Staff < Jake
Mike Raf > Jackson
Goldsworthy, Smart, Bryan > Shaefer, Steven, Tim
Roznik, Palmer, Jeune > Folco, Patrick
Silvers top players are stronger than Red’s on paper. Red has a slight defensive edge over Silver as Matt can play D. Matt will have to rely on the lower rounds of his team to step it up to help him pull a win out in this matchup. Silver is a tougher team than black and will not allow Red to score as often. Which players will show up for this weekend though? Advantage Silver!
Silver 36 – Red 34

Game 2: Purple v Yellow (GOTW)
Noah > Dylan
Joseph < Dave Z
Tyler = MacDonald
Neeraj > Bryce
Payne > Sinclair
Ben Walker < Rice
Jomo, Aiden, Tenzin = JJ, Wilson, Danny
Soares, Jenkin, McKinnon > Morris, DeSouza, Goulet
Noah will have no problem scoring again this weekend as he put up a 50 spot while missing his 3rd and 4th round picks. Dylan will move the ball against Purple and I expect there to be a drastic drop in in interceptions for team Purple as Dylan knows how to keep the ball safe. This is a matchup that is evenly matched and could come down to the last play of the game. While Joseph and Tyler made play after play last week, Having Z as your top player is a huge advantage. Dylan has a lot of young guys but Noah has all the experience he needs to keep his train chugging. With a full squad, this will be a great matchup. Dylan could just as easily pull out a win here but the individual matchups favour Purple a little bit more. Advantage Purple!
Purple 40-38

Game 3: Green v White
Warbird < Glenn
Tank > Tim
Colin < Giorgio
Carey < Grae
Waleed < Daniel
Fowler > Jeyaveeran
Higney, Dufty, Kalo > Edwards, Clarke, Herod
Billy, Doug = Nick, Roberts
Green will have to dig deep this week to pull out an upset over White. Glenn put up a winning effort last week but will struggle to work around Greens D. Being put in short field situations consistently didn’t allow Greens D to prove they are as good as they look on paper. The depth of Green will have to dig in and hope they can give Warbird a shorter field to work with. Glenn knows how to distribute the ball even when throwing underneath. White will use their speed to take advantage on D and force turnovers. Advantage White!
White 31-14

Game 4: Black v Blue
Jelani > Kyle
T.O. < Nick
Murgatroyd < Luc
Walker < Remy
Kitching > Klassen
Best > Hubenig
Haeussler, Shaffer, Murray < Eskins, Snyder, Big Pete
Junius, Quincy < Lance, Rodney
Jelani can still put up points with out the help of Z but his defence has taken a hit. Kyle struggled to move the ball last week, replying too heavily on the deep pass but the speed and athleticism of Blue is unmatched. Better ball control and utilization of players like Big Pete and Lance will allow blue to move the ball much better in this matchup. I expect another high scoring game with Black and Jelani’s no-look passes. Will Kyle look as rusty as he did last week? Blue better hope not. Advantage Blue!
Blue 44-38

Everyone loves to see where their team stacks up against the others, so I’ll take a page from my dear friend Colin and give my preseason and Week 1 power rankings.
Preseason:
1. Silver
2. Blue
3. Purple
4. Yellow
5. Red
6. Black
7. White
8. Green
Week 1:
1. Silver- Won as expected and is still the team to beat
2. Purple- A huge blowout while missing 2 key players bumps them up in the rankings
3. Red- Putting up 60 isn’t easy vs the former Champ
4. Yellow- Stayed in a tight fight with silver but a loss isn’t going to gain you ground
5. Blue- Pulled out a controversial win to a team they should have been able to handle
6. Black- Gave up a halftime lead but still put up 40 points
7. White- gave Blue a run for their money but suffered a late game loss
8. Green- Only points were special teams. Finding a way to climb this season will prove tough

With teams missing players, a true idea of what each team will look like going forward will hard to determine until week 3 concludes. Week 1 has humbled top teams while bringing a large boost of confidence for others. I always hope to be proven wrong and hope that upsets clutter the schedule!
Best of luck to everyone out there this weekend!
