Week 4, past the halfway point in the regular season.

Cowboys showed us all what they’re made of this week, I think we can all agree on that.

Any other impressions of what's going on out there?

I second that, great game. Except next time we will never, ever put a Clarkin on a King. Ever.

Glad to see all of our special team drills paid off. We practice the Wedge even though there is no blocking. Jomo, although looked awkward and unsure, had fully practiced that fake toss hundreds of times. And Ben's lightning quick reflexes was a product of hours of tip drills.

Special teams wins games boys.

Broncos has more depth. Sure there is a hopping JR Hadden and healthy TJ but missing sometimes with JR. Hadden out it doesn't look good for the Patriots. The Broncos with the better D will win this.

6 - Browns (Nick) 2 - Cowboys (Spack)

Darryl Cain +
Mike Schleiffer +

I think this will be a close game. Just can't see anyone stopping Dave Z.

Steelers struggle last week with the Redskins (height miss match) and Packers has some height!! But I think they will win in a close one and most likely a low scoring game.

Have fun out there this Saturday and don't forget about the Mid season events!!

Can't wait to play the Steelers this weekend, it is a team filled with all my favorite people to crush. I really hope you can all be there so there can be no excuses for the beat down you will receive.
As the readership knows, I have long owned Klassen on the field and this weekend will be no exception. I will make him disappear.

Hey Predictions:

Not sure if these posts look odd to others, but aren't the members of the other team supposed to be visible for the comparison?

Unfortunately da Scheider wasn't out last weekend to make the entire Ravens Team disappear.

Which is good because it was the first week that we had close to our drafted team all together.

Snyder, the only way you could make me disappear is by standing in front of me and you won't have much opportunity for that as I blaze past you on the field. Remember, you're only rated a 7.4 so don't get too full of yourself. And from what I hear your QB might not be there so maybe you'll have to step up and throw me a couple of picks as well. Bring it on buddy!

Silly Klassen, You will disappear - my game is so big I block out the sun! Throwing, picks, TDs, smothering D, beer drinking- It doesn't matter, All domination all the time!!
I would also point out that the exec, displaying their usual lack of attention to detail (the readership will recall I won the fastest man contest last year, wearing my Dave Z costume, a feat that the 'official' record does not reflect. Shame) neglected to unfold the ratings sheet. I was not a 7.4, I was rated 7.Awesome!

Apparently we can't post pictures this site, which is too bad...

I went back to the SI vaults and found a photo of the first time the Packers were a dynasty...
And on that 1962 cover is a good picture of Snyder (with hair) & Paul Hornung.

Snyder shoulda hung 'em up when Hornung did!

Carter, you didn't go back far enough!

The Packers were a dynasty when Curly Lambeau coached them to 6 championships (4 in the 30s).

I found a picture of that team too, guess who the QB was? Hint - like a later-day Green Bay coach for whom the Super Bowl trophy is named, he went from the Packers to the Redskins, yes, that's right, JOHN MILLER!!!

Little known fact #1438:

Duncan McDonald is actually Morten Anderson. When they wouldn't let him kick in the NFL anymore because he was close to 50 years old, he changed his name (didn't want to get drafted too high) and came to the WMFL. He punctuated his play there by kicking a championship game winning FG with no time on the clock in one of the most epic games ever played in the league.

Ravens vs Redskins

Looks like the Ravens have decided to show up for games finally. Redskins showed some offensive life against a good Steelers team. If Miller can use his teams height advantage this could be win number one. Ravens still better though.

Ravens by 3

Patriots vs Broncos

The Patriots are not deep and have key injuries. If Broncos just focus on stopping TJ they win.

Broncos by 6

Browns vs Cowboys

This will be an interesting game. The Browns have a chance. They just need to score a lot and make no mistakes. Browns won’t be able to stop Dave Z so need to match score for score. Nick is not that consistent so not likely.

Cowboys by 10

Steelers vs Packers

Steelers looked a little vulnerable last week. For a confidence boost they get the Packers without their QB.

Steelers by 14

BCS
1 - Cowboys (4-0) They take no prisoners.
2 – Browns (3-1) Move up one spot.
3 – Steelers (3-1) Poor effort against winless team drops them one.
4- Broncos (2-2) Hold on to their spot by losing to a better team.
5 – Patriots (2-2) Injuries are going to bring them down.
6 – Ravens (1-3) Move up a spot with first win.
7 – Packers (1-3) Win over Redskins keeps them out of the basement.
8 – Redskins (0-4) Better effort but still winless.

Are we really already halfway through the season? Doesn’t seem possible, but I guess it is. Join the gang for the mid-season skill competitions in between the early and late games. It is always fun and good for a few laughs.

How much of a head-start are we giving everyone in the fastest man race against Dave Z? 20 yards, 30? He’ll still win if he takes part!

3-1 last week, 12-4 on the season. Damn you Packers, what happened?

North 9:00 – Team 7 (Redskins) vs. Team 8 (Ravens)

Redskins did seem to have a little life last week, but still couldn’t pull out a win against a tough Steelers squad. The Ravens finally woke-up and had most of their lineup out against the Packers, and it showed. This team is solid and too strong for the Redskins.

-- Take the Ravens handily…

South 9:00 – Team 5 (Patriots) vs. Team 4 (Broncos)

Injuries have affected this Pats team more than any other in the league at this point. I have said from the very beginning that their depth was not great, and it is showing now. The Broncos are licking their wounds after they were easily handled by the Cowboys. They want to bounce-back and the Pats are the perfect tonic for them…

-- Take the Broncos

North 10:45 – Team 2 (Cowboys) vs. Team 6 (Browns)

Game of the week for sure! The Cowboys have looked unstoppable, while the Browns have bounced back from a week 1 loss with 3 wins in a row, and have looked impressive doing it. I think the Cowboys are too strong, but the Browns may be the one team that can keep up with them. This will be a very close game that could be a preview of this years Championship.

-- Take the Cowboys

South 10:45 – Team 3 (Packers) vs. Team 1 (Steelers)

The Packers looked absolutely horrible last week, especially on D, which was supposed to be their strong suit. I understand that the QB will not be there this week, which will put even more pressure on the D to keep Noah off the board. Hasn’t been an easy task for anyone this year and won’t be possible for the Packers this week.

-- Take the Steelers in a run-away

Have fun everyone, and remember to leave it all out on the field.

Oh and I was told Dave Z did win "Fastest Man in Whitby" so Schleif that gives you a 1/6 success rate for the Mid-Season (though I think Vegas took that race off the board as nobody would even have bet "the field" against Dave Z). For those of you who are wondering, the rest of the results were posted on www.wmfl.ca on Saturday. Congrats to the winners!

Browns vs Packers

The Browns have shown they are in the running for the title. The Packers seem to be getting worse (or maybe each team is getting a little better). This team will finish with one win and be thankful they didn’t have a perfect season. Weather is supposed to be good so look for Nick to run up the score if he shows up.

Browns by 17

Ravens vs Cowboys

When the Ravens players decide to show up they are one of the better teams. Time to see how good they are. Cowboys were pushed a little last week. Ravens will keep it close.

Cowboys by 3

Steelers vs Broncos

The Steelers are a solid team and remain a title contender. Broncos offense is just not improving and defense looks tired of carrying the load. Look for Noah to score often in the nice weather.

Steelers by 14

Patriots vs Redskins

Patriots are not a deep team but when healthy this team can score. Redskins have been missing their top pick all year which has contributed to their perfect season so far but it’s not the only reason . I expect them to win one game before the year is over. It won’t be this week though, unless Thanksgiving Weekend depletes the Patriots starters.

Patriots by 10

BCS
1-Cowboys (5-0) A little scare but perfect season still intact.
2-Browns (3-2) Not going to drop for a close loss against perfect team.
3-Steelers (4-1) Could argue they deserve 2 spot, play Browns next week.
4-Patriots (3-2) A weak hold on this spot.
5-Ravens (2-3) Attendance improved, will be top 4 by end of season.
6-Broncos (2-3) Have the defense of a top team but offense keeps them in bottom half.
7-Packers (1-4) Won’t win another game.
8-Redskins (0-5) Wrong type of perfection.

I wasn't going to bother posting this week because the browns are completely irrelevant, and unworthy of my attention.
But since a Janus has me out of my harem for a few minutes, I might as well give you a teaser for what's coming. I have figured out how to beat the cowboys, and the Z in particular. I know the kryptonite that will foil our young hero. But you'll have to wait for next weeks episode . . .

Hi guys,

Busy week, still travelling. Quick picks for this weeks games. I will summarize later...

Browns vs Packers - Browns have way too much for this weak Packers team

Take the Browns

Cowboys vs Ravens - Game of the week. If all the Ravens are there, this will be a close one. Either way Cowboys win.

Take the Cowboys

Broncos vs Steelers - Should be a good one, but the Steelers are rolling well and the Broncos have slid lately.

Take the Steelers

Redskins vs Patriots - Patriots finally had a full compliment last week and they looked good. Redskins have looked better on O, but not D.

Take the Patriots

Have fun guys.

I've been quiet on the board this year unfortunately. Been spending too much time tearing kids apart in Madden 25. I used the Browns a few time and surprisingly won 4 out of 5. However, the only loss was to the Seahawks team with a stupid-to-defend read option.

Putting Madden aside (which I rarely do), I did a fairly good job of keeping Dave Z's numbers down last week. His only touchdown, from what I can recall, was when I wasn't covering him. With a full team, Spack's team doesn't really seem to big a threat. More of a "Our defense isn't great so our offense will have to make up for it" kind of team. With a full and healthy team, I think Spack would have gotten slaughtered. Mindlessly. But that's all "What If's".

I feel as though my presence on the field hasn't been felt by many teams this year (offensively). This may be due to the fact I have been removing teams best defenders away from the ball and giving Giorgio a bit more ball time.

Maybe teams will actually start to line up good defenders against him and give me a shot again (I'll catch the f**king ball). Seems like no teams have been able to shut Giorgio down yet. "hint hint".

If Snyder lines up with me this week (which is usually the case) expect a huge fantasy game from me. Seems he has lost a step in his time since playing with the '62 Packers. But I could be wrong; I wasn't around in the Jurassic Era.

If anyone else is lined up with me, I just don't want to make them look too bad.

Playoff schedule has been on the website since before the season started.

Format is new this year, two pools of four play a round robin (3 weeks) then a 1-2 crossover semi-final with winners playing for the finals (3-4 crossover as well - everyone still plays every week). If you aren't playing your team provides two refs for the round robin game in the opposite pool. Games for the round robin are:

4th vs 5th
3rd vs 6th
1st vs 8th
2nd vs 7th

2nd vs 6th
1st vs 5th
3rd vs 7th

The question re weekly or thematic threads is an interesting one, and in fact I recently wrote a paper on the subject as part of my PhD dissertation. Imagine that coincidence.
Weekly is what it is, with the underlying concept being to discuss any and all matters of importance to the readership at that time. This is easy, and since we all know dmac is easy, makes sense that this is the model he has followed.
Thematic is most valuable if members actually choose to participate, and if the themes themselves are of most interest to others. For example - a thread on how to stop the spackman-Dave z juggernaut might be a good one. Dissecting Tank's poor self-esteem another. Miller's true age, and is he merely an extremely long-lived human or in fact some sort alien sent first to invent football then to play in the league of leagues, the WMFL, another still. Positional rankings, predictions, hatred towards the evil and self-serving exec, steve-o's prowess as chef, etc all of interest.
Since we don't seem to get a lot of posts, I'd stick to weekly (or monthly!!) myself but it sure would be good to see a bit more actual trashtalk and/or interesting posts.
Pack rules!

Agree with Snyder. How often does someone say that?

No offense to The Line and Shultzy who religiously post, there has been a serious lack of content. Clearly there is a demand as the views are always very high and thats not just me hitting refresh 100s of times. Is the Tipster and MMQB and all those guys out of the league? It was not uncommon a couple of years ago for weekly threads to hit 100 posts.

Steelers vs Browns

Game of the week, perhaps game of the season. Steelers offense showed it can score on anyone. Problem is their defense can be scored on by anyone. The Browns have shown almost as good an offense but have a good defense as well. This game is going to be high scoring with the winner being the team with the fewest mistakes. Early morning game with a little rain might cause a couple of those mistakes.

Browns by 1

Packers vs Cowboys

Not much I can say here. Only good news for the Packers is that no one will be watching this game. Look for Dave to run up the score because it will be hard not to. These two teams might play next week as well.

Cowboys by 27

Ravens vs Patriots

This one is difficult. Both teams have trouble getting players to show up. Assuming they do, this would be a great game. Patriots are not a deep team but Colin only throws to two guys anyway. Maybe this is why some guys don’t show up. Ravens need their guys to show up, depth is their advantage. Ravens seem to be getting better each week and Patriots look like they are slipping.

Ravens by 3

Broncos vs Redskins

Broncos QB is away so this will be a close game. I think the Broncos are vulnerable this week and are waiting for playoffs to start. Redskins finally got a win last week. They know if they finish last they get the Cowboys next week in the playoffs. With a win they pass the Packers. I expect the Redskins effort to be the difference here.

Redskins by 1

BCS

1-Cowboys(6-0) Perfect season still possible.
2-Browns(4-2) Looking better each week.
3-Steelers(5-1) A win over the Browns this week moves them up one.
4-Ravens(2-4) Need a win this week to stay here.
5-Patriots(3-3) Better record than Ravens but when you lose to a winless team you have to drop.
6-Browns(2-4) Good effort against Steelers but no win.
7-Packers(1-5) Nowhere to go but down. Won’t win another game.
8-Redskins(1-5) You lost to the Packers so you need another win to get out of the basement.

Last week of the regular season, already?! Well, with the new round-robin playoff system, we will still have many more weeks of action to cover.

Missed posting a full column last week due to travel, but let’s recap the last two weeks...

Week 5 – 3-1
Week 6 – 3-1
Season total at 18-6. Not too bad at all.

Let’s see who can get themselves on a roll as the playoffs start.

North 9:00 – Team 6 (Browns) vs. Team 1 (Steelers)

If you want to see the game of the week, you have to get to the field early. Wray vs Dehaney, Frank vs Ben P, Giorgio vs Ommer, etc… Fantastic match ups all the way through both lineups. Makes sense that these two teams are battling for second place. I have been big on the Browns all season and I think their overall depth is a little better than the Steelers. This should be a back and forth game with the Browns D making one major stop that turns the game in their favour. May be one of the best games of the entire season…

-- Take the Browns

South 9:00 – Team 2 (Cowboys) vs. Team 3 (Packers)

In the “Oh ya, there is another game going on at the same time” game of the week, the Packers come up against the league’s top team, the Cowboys. Is it possible that playing against Dave Z and the rest of the Cowboy juggernaut will bring out the best from the Chris’s and the rest of the Packers? Perhaps, but it still won’t be enough.

-- Take the Cowboys

North 10:45 – Team 5 (Patriots) vs. Team 8 (Ravens)

Two teams that are very hard to predict as one is never quite sure how many of them will show up… Looking at the lineups on paper, I have to say that the Ravens look better. Who will be coming this week, though? With the playoffs on the horizon and all the other tournaments complete, I am expecting a full Ravens team, which spells doom for the Pats.

-- Take the Ravens

South 10:45 – Team 7 (Redskins) vs. Team 4 (Broncos)

Didn’t see that win by the Redskins coming… This team has been slowly improving every week, but their lack of speed kills them in most cases. Against the Pats it wasn’t exposed. Against the Broncos, it may not be either as they are loaded with solid, experienced players, but not a huge amount of speed. If it is true that Chambers is not going to be there, this becomes a different game, as that has meant Ben is throwing in the past, which eliminates their biggest weapon. Can the Redskins make it two in a row or will the Broncos rise the occasion?

-- I will take the Broncos in a close one…

There has been a question posed and a few opinions floated about how this board works. I have to agree with others that have posted. Since there are a limited number of posts, the current methodology makes the most sense. I would say that message boards like this one seem to be a fad that has passed in most cases. Other football leagues that I have looked at have about the same amount of action these days.

Have fun everyone, and remember to leave it all out on the field.

Not only is our game going to be the game of the year, it is going to be bigger than Manning vs Brady in the 2006 AFC Championship.

Although we won't be recovering any Touchdowns in the endzone, I don't think the Steelers have the speed to keep up with our team.

Also, I've been taking some medication that Snyder has been giving me labelled ???"HGH"??? or something along those lines. I fought a bear and wrestled a mountain lion. I'm faster and stronger than ever!

Is there drug testing in this league?

Browns,

Sorry I had to run before the game ended, had to take daughter to soccer, but I just want to say what a great game you guys played. Your defence was unreal. And Nick, you threw like a champ. Maybe if Tank lays off the HGH he wouldn't have dropped a couple. Look forward to playing you again in the playoffs.

Noah, What was unreal was the way you drove the Steelers down the field in a drive reminiscent of "The Drive" against the Browns in the 1987 AFC Championship game. The 3rd down TD to Ommer Chohan. The 2-point conversion to Tim Wray. In a game that lived up to its hype.
