Let the trash talk begin...

Fresh off our victory (technically a tie, but the way we'd been playing a tie IS a win!) against the bears, pro bowl grey now turn our sights on our less effective and somewhat delayed cousin, pro bowl white. Like a broter you are embarrassed of but love nonetheless, we will take some modicum of pity on pri bowl white and make it a close enough game so they aren't completely embarassed.
I do have two concerns, as I look at the pro bowl white roster:
1. Carter. I understood your bones were riddled with osteoperisis, and would shatter as fast as Adam's QB career. We'll be watching you secret old man weapon.
2. Giorgio. I will share with the league that I, like Giorgio, love Justin Beiber. We are both Belieber's. Unlike Giorgio, I cannot sculpt my hair like Beibs (due, as you know, to the radiation poisoning I took when preventing the Darlington meltdown of '09). I fear this gives Giorgio a distinct advantage and I am humbled.
Other than those two I see nothing on pro bowl white that gives me pause, in particular not when I look at the combined might of pro bowl grey. As I said, we'll keep it close as befits family, but pro bowl grey will win the day with an expression of dominance to the league just in time for playoffs, which is exactly how Johnny built this team. Booyah!

Exec,

We had a few things come up in our game and I want to get it all clarified before playoffs start.

1.) We had a forward pass occur, but it was caught behind the line of scrimmage. The rules are clear that this is not a completion. The question is, can this be advanced past the line of scrimmage?

2.) I have always been under the assumption that a time out called after a touchdown, the time is restarted after the convert. If the timeout is called after the convert, the time is started on the receiving team touching the ball on the kickoff. Some people argued that the convert is not a timed play so a timeout called after a major (CFL speak), should be restarted after the kickoff? Lets just make it clear one way or the other.

3.) Finally, the goalpost thing. Craig Klassen cheated against us and used the post to get by me, as clearly he couldn't without help. I know the rules say "making contact with the goal posts unless contact is deemed to be as a result of the defender". So does that mean pushed into? Or if a defender is just standing there and the receiver tries to avoid him and runs into the post, is that ok? I think leaving it up to the ref will lead to issues. My suggestion is that you can't touch it unless pushed into physically. But you can clarify.

Thanks guys, looking forward to playoffs!

(Jr. just so you know who answered)

1) not 100% sure on this one but I believe all passes must be past the line of scrimmage otherwise the second and catch on a 40 yard gain is useless... If this is incorrect someone please let me know.

2) Converts count for time but not as a play. IE: if you call TO after a TD the time starts at the snap of the convert. A TO after the convert the time starts with the receiving team touching the ball or the snap of the first down, whatever comes first. Meaning if you are playing the clock you cant just keep kicking it out of bounds trying to kill the clock and get the offensive team to 3 plays. To be clear the Convert does not count as a play. So if a TD is scored with 3 plays left there are 2 plays after the kick, so the convert does not count as a play.

3)Touching of the pole makes you an illegible receiver unless forced (meaning pushed) into it. Receiver must do his utmost to avoid the pole at all costs. If the defender uses the pole for leverage this is classified in the same manner. Meaning if that player were to intercept the ball after pushing off the pole the ball would be deemed incomplete.. Same as an offensive player. (everyone just stay away from the poles).

Hey Exec, since we have you on here, can someone explain to me how the Playoffs work exactly. Are the seedings altered for the Semi-Finals after the round robin or....

Rob - schedule is up.

2 groups of 4 seeded accordingly in round robin format.

Top 2 in each group go to the semi finals with a chance at the championship, bottom 2 in each group playoff for Toilet Bowl.

It states it all in the Schedule.

"Clock will run continuously starting when the kicker kicks the ball. Teams can stop the clock by calling a time-out; clock starts again when the ball is put in play (snapped or kicked)."

--> it starts when the kicker contacts the ball, not when the receiving team touches it.

My fault, thought we changed it 2/3 years ago so we couldn't just kick it out of bounds to kill the clock.. My fault if incorrect.

That rule quote is for a catch. Noah stated clearly it is not a catch. But can it be advanced?

1.) Nick - Needs a win over an up and coming Buzz to hold on to this spot. Can't see him losing, so odds are he will head into the next phase as the number 1 seed.

2.) Noah - Every pundit put Noah at the bottom and crapped all over his team. He proved them all wrong again, and had a spectacular season.

3.) Spack - After losing to Noah, he came back with a vengeance last week against Raf. This team is built for playoffs and can't see a scenario where they arent playing in the semifinals.

4.) Raf - Humbling loss to Spack, which left their defense in question. Still a top 4 team with a very good chance at making it deep.

5.) Colin - A proven team having a bit of a disappointing season. Will likely be grouped with Nick, Raf, and TO, so will need a good round robin to come out the other end.

6.) Buzz - QB change sparked a good game against Colin. Will this give them some momentum going into playoffs? Could be a dark horse.

7.) Ryan - Fun team to watch. Lots of team speed, but will have a tough time hanging with any of the top teams. Could surprise in a game, but thats about it.

8.) TO - Playing Noah in the final regular season game does not bode well for them to get a win this year. They know where they will be in the playoffs, its all about playoffs at this point.

Are the standing correct? Did the Colts not beat the browns?

You are correct, the Colts did beat the Browns and as such should be positioned above them in the standings. I believe the inaccuracy is due do the logic used that ranks according to points against when it shows a tie. When it comes time to post the final regular season standings we will make sure ties are addressed correctly. Thanks for bringing that up.

"Ball must be thrown overhand and be completed at or beyond the line of scrimmage."

--> that's the definition of a catch. if it isn't thrown overhand or beyond the line of scrimmage it does not qualify as a pass/catch and therefore cannot be advanced (similarly there is a rule indicating that a lateral pass behind the line of scrimmage cannot be advanced.

So, just to be clear, a forward pass that was not caught past the line of scrimmage cannot be advanced past the line of scrimmage.

Correct?

correct. to further clarify - it doesn't count as a catch either (if you gain 25 on first down you can't complete a pass for a loss of 4 behind the line of scrimmage and get credit for a completed pass and earn a first down)

A tie! No one ever predicts a tie… If the NFL can have one, I guess it makes sense that the WMFL can have one too.

3-0-1 last week, now 15-8-1 for the season.

Last regular season week this week, then into the round robin playoffs. Some might say the games up to this point are just exhibition and that the real season starts next week. However, it is important to get your team on a roll by winning this week…

North 9:00 – Team 6 (Buzz) vs Team 1 (Nick)

The Pro Bowl battle. Right now, one of these teams is treading water near the bottom of the standings while the other is humming on all cylinders leading the pack. Not sure I see that changing this week, no matter what TWAT (or Snyder or Matty S or whatever he calls himself this week…) thinks. If full lineups are at this early game, it won’t be close and Nick will have the #1 seed in the playoffs. (for what it’s worth…)

Take Nick’s team

South 9:00 – Team 2 (Mike) vs. Team 3 (Colin)

Mike’s team was beaten handily last week by Dave’s team, while Colin’s team was able to get ˝ way to a victory with a tie. Both teams really need a victory this week, just to get the roll starting for the playoffs. They both have top-level talent and experienced QBs to lead them. Hard to give either a substantial advantage. In the end, I think Mike’s team will make the play that they need to pull the game out.

-- Take Mike’s team

North 10:45 – Team 5 (Ryan) vs. Team 8 (Dave)

Again Dave’s team was able to bounce-back strong after a loss. A win will continue the momentum build for the playoffs and guarantee them at least a third place finish. Ryan’s team is fun to watch for sure and they go all our every week. One certainly cannot fall asleep on them as they do have big Dave Z who is bound to really break out a big game sometime… Better talent and confidence wins the day.

-- Take Dave S's team

South 10:45 – Team 7 (Noah) vs. Team 4 (Chris)

Another week for the Purple team, another big loss last week. The young kid playing quarterback last week had the team moving a few times, but this game can be very cruel. One mistake kills drives quickly. Not sure if there is a QB controversy or not, although it might be interesting to see the kid throwing a long ball to Chris (anyone else remember his great receiving skills??) Regardless of the decision they are playing a team that is on top of their game and Noah will torch the D like everyone else has been…

-- Take Noah’s team

Have fun everyone, and remember to leave it all out on the field.

Also, anyone who can help me reach Todd Julien, contact me at... PGoulet@rogers.com

Vikings WIN without their top 4 picks. Maybe it's not the QBs fault it's the over rated players Wray Payne Cain Taylor.

After watching the Vikings beat the Falcons today I think it's pretty obvious what the problem. They don't have have Raf Jr on their team who caught four touchdowns today for T.o.'s team. I never seen Wray, Ben or Cain do that this season. All they do is complain how bad of QB t.O. Is. Maybe their just not that good and Wray is only good for holding receivers when he's playing defence?

Buzz has consistently put up points this year. Prone to turnovers but his defence hasn't didn't help him out that much which has led to so many loses.

Miller has still not been able to throw which is sad. Wanted to see this guy throw to this talented receiving core(sarcasm).

It really doesn't matter who's throwing. We all know who going to win the championship this year. It's Pro Bowl White Baby! Frank is leading us all the way!

Noah's team was nice enough to let me play against them. I want to say thanks to both teams. It made for a fun game. Two teams battling back and forth but TO came up big with some nice throws and BIG PETE had some clutch catches to seal the win.

Good luck in the playoffs everyone!

Hi Guys,
It's been pointed out that the reffing assignments on the playoff schedule posted are incorrect (only one team shown, there should be two and they're backwards for the 10:45 games in the first week). I'll be updating that today or tomorrow, but in the meantime, here are the correct assignments for week one...

Time Teams Field Refs
9:00 4th vs 5th North 2nd/7th
9:00 3rd vs 6th South 1st/8th
10:45 1st vs 8th North 3rd/6th
10:45 2nd vs 7th South 4th/5th

It was Nick who wouldn't let Raf Jr play on Spack's team, not the other way around.

I know people love to hate on Dave, but in this case Spackman wasn't the villain...

Nick had nothing to do with Raf Jr not playing when PB White played the Colts. In fact, Raf Jr. played defense only and I believe Spack made that call on his own.
