Posted By Posted By: Who won the draft?
Posted On Posted On: Aug 22nd, 2017
Views Views: 5968
Champion of the draft is more important than champion of the season.

So who won the draft?

Safest team is Spack with similar team that won last year.
Jelani always has a strong team on paper and in regular season, and can't go wrong with Z.
Noah again has a team with a bunch of names I don't recognize, but this year its sprinkled with some 10s.
Colin always likes to pair Mike with another 10, this year Tim Wray plays the TJ/TO role.
Chambers has a good team, but its asking a lot of TJ to carry this team.
Dylan will have to play out of his mind for this team not to be in the toilet bowl.
What will Nick do without Frank constantly yelling at him? Can Giorgio finally step out of his cousin's shadow and carry a team?
Adam has a solid top pick, but after that there are some question marks.

Way to early rankings:
Spack
Noah
Colin
Jelani
Adam
Nick
Chambers
Dylan

Well the draft is over and its time for the pundits to come out of their hidey holes. Lets break down the draft team by team then have our preseason power rankings shall we?

Chambers (Red)
An overall well rounded team without significant weaknesses, however, no outstanding areas as well.
Chambers should see an uptick in his statistical performance this year with sure handed TJ. Speed on the outside with Will J. Tall targets in Warburton and Miguel. Defensive masterminds in Jason, Craig, and Synderface should hold down the fort.

Colin (Orange)
Solid top end starters, questionable back end.
Colin with the steal of the draft getting Tim and Ben later in the draft (former perennial first rounders). The offence will be humming alongside stud Soccer star Mike H. and the surging Josepi James. Solid hands with Junius. Tim the willy vet to help along the new players. This team will be in every game.

Dylan (Black)
Young, fast, strong arm qb.
Dylan looked good in his few performances last year. Confident he will keep his team in games with big plays. Fab can lock down any opposing player and he is a great first pick. Jake and Aaron have finals experience and great speed. This team has depth with JJ and Drew. The lesser known players will need to step up if this team wants a chance at the title.

Jelani (Green)
Sure handed, not built for big plays, west coast offence, plug away.
Jelani is looking to rebound from an excellent year but a poor showing by his team in the finals last year. Teaming up with Z again should help him get back there. Adding Mario gives Jelani two targets for important third down plays. Russ is back and surehanded as ever across the middle. Eskins is coming into his own as an excellent defender. Veterans in G Money and Harding should help guide this defence. A solid team built to dink and dunk will need scoring out of Z and thier defence to pull away in any games.

King (Grey) (Light grey? really, thats their team colour?) I am calling it grey.
Mr. King loves to throw the deep ball and this year he has the targets to get there. Luc, Mark and Alex have finals expereince and should give defences a heck of a time. 3rd and short? Big pete all day. Unsure of the backend on the draft. Could there be a diamond in the rough for King and team Grey? This team will need to rely on big plays on offence and their athletic defence as they will not be dinking and dunking. Fun to watch, but a middle teir team.

Nick (white)
The Lebron, and Kyrie relationship is over. Frank is gone, can Giorgio step up and take the riegns for his team? Nick has speed in the kid, and sure handed tall Neerja for balance. With Jomo guiding the defence with the Brooks veterans it should help out the lesser known players. I, the great Collinsworth, am unsure of the players on the back end of this draft. They will need a star here to be viable. Some games could get ugly. A bottom tier team in preseason without the knowledge of their back end.

Noah (Carbon) (I didnt know we used the periodic table to label colours)
Noah is as sure as a qb as they come and he has two excellent recievers in the disgruntled Frank and T.O. They will give defences nightmares with the pumpfakes and double moves. Unsure of the big block of players taken in middle rounds, Word on the street is that they could be special. Alot of question marks with this team. Leadership with Noah tells me he will get the best out of this squad if Frank doesnt tear it apart first. With so many question marks I cant rate this team a top 3. Prove me wrong.

Spack (Royal) (Its called blue, this isnt a kansas city baseball team)
No weaknesses. Top team. Will run away from teams.
Ah Spack is back! A decisvie vicotry in the finals last year with his top targets back make this a very scary team once again. Spack hasnt lost a step. The clarkins get faster and shorter every year. Brandt proved himself a solid up and comer last year. Vets with Cain and Staff are excellent late round steals. This team will be tough to stop and wont allow much scoring. The league has to hope for a Partiots A La 2007 with a David Tyree catch as the only hope to spoil their repeat.

Rankings
1 Spack, Royal (Blue Jays BLUE)
2 Colin, Orange
3 Jelani, Green
4 Noah, Carbon (Element #6 on your periodic Table)
5 Dylan, Black
6 Chambers, Red
7 King, Light Grey (Grey)
8 Nick, White

First off, a little disappointed that my family block wasn't accepted, but I don't want to dive down too deep into the politics of things. We've been brothers ever since the 'everybody hook, then lineup and do it again and I throw to TJ no matter how many people are covering him' days. Between that, and picking me in Snowbowl with a gimpy wheel, how could I not love my big bro Colin?

I see that Team Red is a little underappreciated by the hot takes of the pre-season prognosticators, but that's okay. Snyder and I feed off of your hate, your tears are delicious.

Frank is alright. The 'Tank sucks' posts are okay, but they're getting a little old ... okay, not a little old, but a 'John Miller' kinda old, y'know what I mean? Johnny, I love ya. Let's do lunch.

Chambers isn't getting any love as a QB, but it's probably because his old teams were garbage (no apologies if you were on his team before, you're garbage ... as a group). Ol' throat-punch is gonna come out swinging this year, so bring your neck guards.

Adrian Browne is going to win the coveted 'WMFL Rookie of the Year' award this year, so that's a free tip for the pundits out there. Adrian wasn't looking for any kind of extra pressure or expectation due to his lofty draft status, but I'm slinging it anyways.

Rob Wilson is a lock for 'Comeback Player of the Year' ... I'm already having the trophy made up as we speak.

Snyder is going to be amongst the leaders in most ridiculous trash talk, and I think Klassen is going to win the 'best teammate' award for helping him backtrack on the field if things aren't going to script.

And Dave 'The Warbird' Warburton ... what more is there to say? The rest of the league can just duck and take cover now ... it's all over but the team touchdown celebrations! Goodell has loosened the rules, so let's see those dance moves, gentlemen!

Firstly, I'd like to thank TJ, I think... for having my back on those ancient insults. Hard to remember back to a time when they were still relevant!

After taking my talents to Noah Beach, team Mikos was more than glad to abolish a toxic player from their team. However, that attitude has been left with them. A new team, a new Frank.

Finally, Noah will easily be a top 1 team this year. Spack doesn't stand a chance. I'm just too good for that guy. Hadden family, I'm bringing cases of beer for teams we beat so make your mind up early. And Jelani won't be able to throw to Z when I'm covering that wash up. My only fear really is the Nick to Billy connection. That's a lethal combination.

Dylan, ignore the haters. You will play amazingly this year!... amazingly bad, that is.

Snyder, looking forward to our Revis Island vs Megatron matchup again. An early gut punch will set the tone this year buddy.

I'm actually a little surprised on the team evaluations so far nothing has been mentioned of Andrew Murgatron. Flying under the radar again will result in a number of teams being burned downfield. Let's give Murgatron the recognition he deserves (and by recognition I mean solid coverage). Team Black will be more dangerous than given credit for so far. Just remember Murgatron, thumbs out :)

Thanks Scout!! Hopefully I burn some people down field and catch a TD pass thumbs out ; ) maybe then I will get noticed.

I also want to give my QB Dylan some recognition, he has got a hell of an arm and should get more credit then he is getting. I guess Black is going to have to prove some people wrong this year.

So cute how right after the draft every team loves each other and thinks they are the best. Qbs love receivers , receivers love qbs, it's a big love in. Wait till week 3 when some teams realize they suck, their qbs can't hit an open player, their 10 is getting burned by a new guy and it's not a question whether they will lose but by how much this week...Amirite?

Thank you to the league exec for not allowing myself and tank to block together. In hindsight, Tank would have been as valuable to our team as dogs are to Mike Vick.

@Chris Collinsworth, Thank you for motivation by only ranking us 3rd when we are clearly first. We wouldnt want other teams to quit preseason, spirit of the league and all.

@TJ Hadden, this is 2017, please file for a name change so as to not confuse us, TJ Chambers would do, or perhaps Toilet Bowl Bradimore?

@tank, ill take those cases of beer you offered to the teams you beat since i imagine you will beating your own team with toxicity and you cannot claim your own prize.

@clarification please, the name tank came about when he tanked for a whole season much as the Jets intend to do this season. Unfortunetly this is a redraft league and frank now understands toleit bowl doesnt ensure top pick in the next years draft

@spack, coming for revenge after last seasons defeat in the finals. No back to back for Spack and the hobbits on their way to Mordor to claim the ring. YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!

@cute, whats your name? Do you have tinder ;)

@rest of the league, Green Machine!!!

@Potter
Welcome to the league and I assure you you're pick was not based on pity but rather the unorthodox (but soon to be widely adopted) strategy of drafting players based on their handsomeness.
This will pay off not only in the field but by gifting the league with most viewed championship team photo in history when Light Grey takes the crown this season.

Glad to be a part of the handsomeness that is Light Grey!!

Light grey; the colour of sexy!!

In reviewing the team lists I suspect that there will be a lot of close games this year as the talent pool is well spread throughout the whole league.

Looking forward to another fabulous season!!

I should address that as well, no one will be seeing my face during the first game of the season. Unless you are a porcelin god, which I'll be wrapped around due to the fact it's my good friends wedding in Windsor that weekekd.

Kind of pissed but gives me one more week to sharpen these L1R1 Jukes.

See you on the gridiron boys!

Speaking of L1R1 jukes, I forgot to mention that at the draft, I entered cheat code: B, L1, LEFT, LEFT, UP, DOWN, X, Y, R2, L2, A, A, X.

This gives Team Carbon a 6 point lead at the start of every game as well as a 99 speed rating to Noah.

Not that we will need it, but I figure, the The Patriots won 5 Superbowls while cheating, so why not us.

Id recommend flip flops. The thong kind that go between your toes.

I think the flip flops only apply to you Z, anything to slow you down a bit.

@Potter - just no metal cleats for safety reasons. Aside from that, any molded rubber or plastic cleats are fine.

Well it looks like another great draft this year! Lots of new faces. Is there another super star hiding within the new players if so what team do they play for?

Let's start with the 1st games of the year followed by my top team perdictions.

Colin (Orange) vs Dylan (Black)

Will Tim show up this year ? May not matter with this top team players. This team has lots of depth and experience. Top team contender as always when Colin is the QB and always picks very well in the draft.

New kid on the block QB Dylan. Good Draft for your 1st time. Im sure your team will win more than a few games But as for Team Orange for your 1st game of the year ? Chalk this one up as experience.

Orange by more than 14 Points

King (Light Grey) vs Noah (Carbon)

Noah always picks well in the drafts and likes to be surprised with unknown players joining his team. With Frank and TO on his team how can he go wrong ? Oh Wait with TO and Frank everything can go wrong. these 2 players will get along like water and Oil!! Maybe Charles could keep things calm . HAHA! Lucky Noah can keep the lion and sheep calm on his boat! I mean Team! Good luck Carbon have fun out there.

All Hail the KING !
Good draft this year Maybe not picking his buddy and picking real players will help this team this year! JK
Hopefully this unknown Rice new player will work out for him. solid team all the way down with a few new players hopefully it works out for you.

Carbon by 6 in a close one

Nick (White) vs Spackman (Royal)

Spack is back Doing his thing again this year doing well at the draft. Hmmm I think this team looks familiar .Draft Repeat from last year ? Will it repeat a Championship? Not sure too soon to tell . Too many new players in the league .Too many Clarkins!

Nick without Frank ? Will this be a good thing or will they beg him back next year? not bad draft however I don't see them winning many games definitely not this game.

Royal (blue) by more than 20

Jelani (Green) vs Chambers (Red)

How mad is Dave Z this year ? I have never heard him speak much say a few words in a sentence. Dave Z is calling out Champ this year can he do it with this super team ? Maybe

Chambers very good draft this year way to go. TJ better perform though if you want to see a champ as Dave Z is calling him out. Will this be a pre champ game . likely not. However it will be entertaining. nice solid team all the way down, Sometimes Defence wins games and this team has a nice D.

Green by 3

Top Teams

Spack
Colin
Jelani
Noah
King
Dylan
Chambers
Nick

It's not my fault that they created a stats page. Blame the web guy for being a statistician. Blame the landscaper for leaving the grass too long. Blame the bulldozer driver for making the field slope to the west. Blame the architect for making a path out of the end zone down to Annes Street. It's not my fault that the DB couldn't cover me. It's just not my fault that I ended up on the stats page.

On behalf of all WMFL players, current and alumni, I would like to recognize Drew for posting that picture of Frank. I literally almost shit myself on first and subsequent viewing.
I've tried to give thought to how to start the 2017 trash-campaign in defence of my decade long crown and I just keep coming up short. Makes me do terrible things like introspection and deep self-evaluation. But then I realized this isn't my problem. It has absolutely nothing to do with me. It has to do with all of YOU! I just can't bring the trash yet this year because No team other than red is even worth noticing. So I haven't.

I love that Dave Z has come out the gate hot this year with the trash talk. Gotta agree, that post was probably longer than any interaction anybody has ever had with him on the field. I'm so glad we get to play each other week 1 ... I'm torn between letting him play well so he'll keep talking, or erase him (aided by Jelani's notoriously shoddy play) completely. I guess we'll have to see come Saturday ... getcha popcorn ready, Hill!

Well here we are, week 1 is upon us! Always a tough one to pick with the long weekend and new faces/stars in the making.

Game 1
Orange vs Black (THE HALLOWEEN GAME!! GREAT COLOURS)
Fab can shut down Mike. But can Mike shut down Fab? Dylan has a big arm and showed he makes smart throws, first real test as the lead man for Dylan vs a solid top tier QB. Joe james is picked a little high in my opinion however he is a solid defender and receiver. But can he shut down the speedy Jake W, perhaps put him on Duggan another tall guy? Muragtord is talking alot, will be interesting to see if he shows up. If Tim and Ben show up, Orange takes this game easy. Have to go with Orange here. The bottom half of Oranges team is too good, unsure of team black's.
Orange wins 32-20

Game 2
Grey vs Element#6 on your periodic table (Game of the ugly Jerseys and pretty faces)

Ahhhhh the game of the deep ball King vs Pump Fake Noah. Luc Semanaski being picked as a first rounder could be a distaster. A great defender as proved last year but Frank and T.O could torch him. Franky with all of his hipster hair can play D and shut the bearded Luc down. Mark and Alex are solid players for the interemeidate ball, and Pete should be great on 3rd down, but alas they will be covered by Noah's band of misfits and or King will throw deep instead.

Element#6 on the periodic table takes this one. 22-16 (Not many conversions hit here)

Game 3
White vs Blue
Uh oh, this game has all the makings up to be a blow out. White needs frank even with all of his antics, he is tough to replace, Neeraj and Giorgio will do fine on offense, but they wont be stopping the Great Spack and the hobbits on their way to Mordor today. Speed vs Height here, however Nick isnt as sharp as Spack to take advatnage of the matchups. Jomo and the Brooks crew better lace up their shoes on D for alot of running.
Blue wins big, even if the Clarkins dont show up, Cain, Staff and Warren will suffice.
Blue wins 48-18

Game 4
Red vs Green The CHRISTMAS MATCHUP, WHICH COLOUR PREVAILS?
Well well well, Dave Z and TJ already talking smack. I see both of these plays unable to cover the other, both have huge days unless they are doubled. the speedy Will vs The length of Mario is an interesting matchup. This game will have alot of long drives with dinking and dunking (A yawn fest perhaps even with the christmas spirit). both teams are full of established players here. The quartet of Snyderface, Craig, Jason, and Miguel backed up by the reliable Warbird outmatches Eskins, Harding, and G money. Will Russ and Kitching be able to step up over Wilson and Browne? Yes! Jelani is great in the regular season and can defend as well and will provide the edge here.
Green wins a snooze fest even with a close game 24-22

Enjoy your Labor day (Notice the absence of the 'U' because I am American ;)

The only reason it will be a snoozefest is cause I plan to shut down whoever they have me covering. Sleep tight tonight boys. Football season starts now.

Just checked these stats you speak of luc. Yes they are impressive. However. A deeper look shows Frank playing A division vs 8 other A division games. Luc's stats seem riddled with B teams and even some C teams that may or may not contain a woman's team.
Advantage frank. Nhl player beats ohl player alllllll day.
Lets see it tomorrow boys!
