Wow!!! What a week! Black wins, and Green wins, eliminating the defending champs! I correctly picked 3 out of 4 games this week. I must admit, I did not see Green dominating Blue like that (Even with a shorthanded Blue squad). 10 for 12 correctly picked in the playoffs now.

What did we learn this week?

Green can play some serious Defense. 28 points allowed in the 3 playoff games!? And 3 ints in the first half against a great QB spack.

A defending champ will not be making it to the final four, attendance was an issue.

Team black advanced! Without their top pick showing up often. Dyl the Thrill!!!! Maybe You will get Fab next game? Offense is firing on all cylinders, second to only the two top dogs Green and Carbon.

Team Grey looked…..well grey once again against team white without Hair Boy. Perhaps a date with Red for the toilet bowl finals.

Orange showed their teeth against Carbon early in the game.

This weeks picks:

I assume attendance will be a serious issue for the 9am games with teams not in the final four. I encourage you to come out and play. Only two more weeks of football then the winter off. You will miss it come February and wish you played!

Consolation bracket:

White vs Red (The Santa Claus game)

Well this game will look pretty with the mix of colours but the game itself could be ugly. Seeing Giorgio against TJ would be a nice early Christmas present. Lets hope they show up. A burner vs Hands/Moves like Jagger. Red is looking awful lately, with a revolving door at QB and not much defense to show. Red has had their fair share of drops as well. With the speed of Adrian and Will it should give team White trouble. Jomo and the Brookses will have trouble covering these receivers with Miggy and Warbird being left open. Will the QB hit the targets and design plays to get these guys open? I don’t think so. Red seems to run on TJ fumes only. Dan, Kyle, And Neeraj will be a force on offense for Synder face and Craig to try to stop. Red hasn’t proved they can play much D in the playoffs nearly allowing 50 per game. White will roll. Billy and Ciaran, this is your time to shine!
White wins 38-12

Blue vs Light Grey

Wow, Blue didn’t expect to be here. Playing a bottom feeder. Grey will show up for the game, they have been eliminated since about week 5 and keep coming out, good for them, sprit of the league. Will Blue show up? They couldn’t show up during an elimination game. If Spack shows up, Blue will score. Still one of the best QBS. Grey will not be able to cover the clarkins, I am not sure how Green did. Luc will have vengeance on his mind after last years finals. Luc will play great alongside Mark and Alex. Dustin will need to step up on D. Brandt, Cain and Duffy will be difference makers if they attend, really giving Grey no chance to score. Grey should use Green’s offenseive strategy and throw it up to their horses, like pete. Blue is small and fast, not built for the jump ball. Jeff Clarkin for team grey will want to show his brethren who is the top dog. Stevins will be the difference maker here though! Team blue gets their offence back on track, and Grey struggles to score yet again.
Blue wins 40-16

Championship Bracket:

Semi Finals Game 1
Carbon vs Black (There could be an issue with seeing who is playing for who with similar jerseys)

Wow, don’t sleep on team black. They can play D and they have proven they can score! If Fab shows up this will be an added level of explosiveness. Will Carbon be looking ahead to the finals looming and allow black to sneak a win out?? At QB, The edge has to go to Noah who is playing at an MVP caliber level, however Dylan has the advantage in arm strength, mobility, and ability to play defense. Frank and TO are a great match for Murgatrod and Fab. Huge edge to Frank and TO, who are both playing out of their minds. (Other than Frank’s kicking game which is suspect at best). Fab has the ability to lock down one of these receivers, and Muratrod can win a jump ball here and there still. Black has the edge in the middle rounds with Drew, Jake and Aaron a nice mix of speed, height, and defensive ability vs Cody Nigel and Josh of Carbon. The inexperience of Cody Nigel and Josh could be a factor here with the pressure of the semi finals. JJ is a solid receiver and has the experience for team black, however, Higney is a superior runner and the edge goes to carbon . Black also has the edge on the bottom third with the Dan, Sajeev, Daas and Mark having a mix of experience of Mark and youthful exurberience of Sajeev and Daas. Carbons Bottom third with wade aaron colin and peter will have to step up. I think Dyl the thrill rises to the occasion and puts up points here. I cannot see them stopping the Carbon Juggernaut offense though. I would love to pick the upset, but that would affect my record.
Carbon wins a closer affair than they would like. (36-24)

Semi Finals Game 2
Green vs Orange

Wow, Green’s defence looked awful earlier in the year, they have figured it out now. Their offence is still a force to be reckoned with, consistently putting up big numbers. Orange is hit and miss. They look great some weeks, and some weeks they loose to grey…. They have the make up and experience to play well with a championship caliber QB and receivers. Lets break it down. Jelani and Colin. Arm strength ad Colin. Accuracy ad Jelani. Mobility and defensive ability ad Jelani. Play calling even. It factor, Colin had proven he can play well in big games, we are waiting for Jelani to step up still. QB matchup is even. Mike and Z. Speed advantage to Z. Jump ball ability and hands are even. Route running ad Mike. Defense even. These two seem to cancel each other out. Mario and Joe. Similar players, defensive specialist, physical, solid hands big targets. Even. Matt and Tim. Large advantage to Orange here, Tim is not a top dog like he once was but he is still a serious threat, Matt is more of a center and rushing specialist. Ben and Russ. Ben has the speed, Russ has the moves. Both have solid hands. Russ seems to get open as he is not taken seriously. These two are Even. Green's Kitch Taylor and Rodney are an important part of Green’s defense and a large advantage over Orange’s Tim, Rodney and Jay. Jules Ryan Micheal and Rich have the slight advantage over Green’s bottom half which struggle with attendance issues. Green will score as usual. Orange will struggle to keep up.
Green wins 44-26.

Finals Green vs Carbon (The matchup we are hoping for)

Power rankings this time of year are useless. All about the wins. But here it is anyway
Carbon
Green
Orange
Black
Blue
White
Red/Grey

4th rounder comparisons (running out of NFL notable receivers now. Will use other positions)

Red-Synder Face- Luke Kuechly- A defensive specialist. Not blazing speed but still a top dog on D. Leader of the D. Offensivly can be challenged.

Orange-Ben- Lesean Mccoy- Been around longer than one may think, speed is still there with solid hands.

Black-Jake-Lamar Miller- Burner with great speed. Not great size and hands.

Green-Russ-Alvin Kamara (Saints RB)- Speed and hands and elusive. Overlooked often. Very strong player.

Grey-Alex- Zach Ertz(Eagles TE)- Size and solid hands. Speed not the best. Physical and athetic.

White-Brooks-Frank Gore- Been around a while, still serviceable and a force

Carbon-Josh-Giovioni Bernard (Bengals RB) Quick and decent hands. Still new to the league.

Blue-Brandt-Travis Kelse- Very solid player, good hands, speed, size.

Good luck to all teams this week! Leave it all out on the field, if you are not playing for the title, at least play for good cardio and spirit of the league. One more post from me to go!

Big thanks to Duncan who dug up some old pictures of years past.

New pictures have been added to 2006 and 2007 teams as well as the 2004 year end banquet.

Out of the semifinal teams, the QB can make the difference. Colin and Noah have the bling, but Jelani and Dylan are the next ones. Is this potentially the passing of the guard? Colin still has it but has been inconsistent this season. Noah has been playing out of his mind, but although makes few mistakes, doesn’t have a big arm. Jelani and Dylan both have strong arms, great teams, can make plays with their legs, and can step in on D and make an impact.

I have no one trashing me now. I need some hype...

Dylan, I'm coming for you. That desire to win ends this week when I take that pick to the house. Don't throw near me... Or anyone else on team carbon for that matter.

Is it off season or week leading up to semi-finals?

Storylines?

Jelani cant play in the cold?
Will Orange have full team out or another excuse?
Is Black for real or just very fortunate?
Can Carbon go 12-0 or are they going to choke?

What says you?

The only excuse I have heard this year from our team is if someone forgot the beer, and that was me, and it was cause I drank them the night before... Sweet emergency case from Rich though!

I got beer this week team Orange! Unless....

Good luck to everyone this weekend!

Carbon .5 - 1
Green .75 - 1
Orange 1.25 - 1
Black 10 - 1

Carbon still has to be the favourite although looked almost human in the first half against Orange.
Green beat up on a very undermanned Blue, but this team is the deepest out of the top 4, plus has the best player in the league (sorry Frank).
Orange is a slight underdog against Green, as I am sure the line will show, but they have the experience and depth to win it all this year.
Black is playing with house money. They probably shouldn't be here, but have nothing to lose at this point. They should play loose with no pressure and maybe surprise.

Don't count out team black and look ahead to our matchup in the finals just yet. You have a job to do first. As do we. My rebuttal to your trash talk will come after we crush orange. Orange is the focus at the moment. One game at a time!
@Joseph James/ Jesus, you are going down, just like your jaguars and your ugly jaguars gloves

I know everyone wants to see Green in there, and they probably deserve it, but the best story would be Colin vs Noah. These 2 QBs make up 7 or 8 of the last championships based on the pictures, and always have good games. Jelani and Dylan will both be in many, many more finals, but it would be nice to see a Noah vs Colin final. They played 2 years ago when Colin had TO and it was a great game. Noah won it in a low scoring game.

The most consistent/skilled teams are definitely in the finals!
best of luck to both teams (sorry frank, noah and TO you guys are great players but i gotta pull for Jelani n Z cause they're my boys). Felt bad for Dyl cause there were some unfortunate drops but hey that's football. Orange as usually was all class and playing agaisnt blue was lot of fun. Light Grey had a funky season but hey i enjoyed every minute of it! we're coming for you next week red! but yet again i can't applaud the culture and comrodery of the WMFL thanks again guys! great season so far!
