Hey Jelani...
One bad game... a curse does not make.
Back to back championship meltdowns... Might have people talkin, just sayin.

Truthfully good luck to both Green and Grey. Two class act teams that deserve to be there. Should be a great final.

Well here are on the final week of the season. A perfectly picked set of games last week brings my record to 14 out of 16 games correctly picked in the playoffs.

What did we learn this week?

Spack and Team Blue thumped Grey. I am sure Blue feels as though they should be in the finals.

Grey looked grey again, the toilet bowl was their destiny!

White and Red clashed again with White on top, leaving Red to the Toilet bowl. I think someone mentioned earlier TJ Toliet Bowl Bradimore?

The magic of Dyl The thrill and team black was not to be. They took an early lead over Carbon but then the Carbon Train rolled.

Green looked strong yet again in the battle vs Orange. Offense is humming and Jelani is embracing the Cold weather and the critics with outstanding performances.

The remembrance day stoppage was well done. Respect all around.

Early Forecast is 7 degrees for championship Saturday.

Game 1: Toilet Bowl (Second most important game on the docket)

Red vs Grey

Red showed some life on offense last week. Grey struggles to score yet again. Red’s roster is full of athletes and sure handed players, it is a wonder they are where they are. Last time these two played, red took the game rather easily. TJ matches up well with Luc. Luc has the speed and the defensive edge, however TJ has the hands, route running, and moves like jagger with the ball. Will and Adiran have the speed over Dustin and Mark. Synder and Craig have the slight advantage over Pete and Alex. Jason and Robert are tied with Noah and Kyle. Miggy and Warbird have the advantage over Martin and Jeff. This game will come down to Aaron and Doug vs Rod and Ciaran! Red has the advantage across the board other than the two evenly matches duos. Both QBs struggle to score at times. Red has shown they can score over 22 points, Grey has not. Both teams have a porous defense, hindered by their poor offenses.
Red wins 30-14

Game 2: 5th place game

Blue vs White

Blue showed their teeth last week. White barley squeaked out the W vs red. Attendence has been an issue for both teams this year. The QB advantage goes to spack, unfortunate year for the great one with attendance issues plaguing a championship repeat. Giorgio matches up nicely with one of the Clarkin’s, but not both. A lot of speed there. Neeraj should win some jump balls in this contest. Spack will find his other targets in Glenn, Brandt, Duffy and Stevins Bryan and Daryl. Jomo and the Brookseses will have their hands full on defence. Nick will need to use the height to their advantage because the speed advantage leans heavily to team blue, getting open could be a problem for team white. This game will come down to Billy and Kumaran! Unfortunelty they cannot get it done. Blue scores a bundle, white doesn’t match up well on defence, White will score if they use their height advantage and dial up some interesting plays. They wont have enough in them. Sorry Biebs/Hairboy. The last time they played, white game blue a good run for their money in week 1.
Blue wins 48-24

Game 3 Runner up game, Bronze medal/3rd place Bronze bowl?

Black vs Orange (Halloween game)

Well the magic of team black has evaporated. Will they come out ready to play or will they be dejected after the tough loss? The same can be said for team orange’s roller coaster of a season with big wins and several shocking losses. Orange’s roster was built for a championship run. Orange crushed team black the last time they played in week 1, however, this black team is much improved. Both QBs have strong arms. Colin has the experience and go to receivers. Dyl spreads the ball around and is plagued by drops. Fab matches up well with Mike, with the advantage on D to Fab. Tim and Ben and Joe are a fearsome trio on both O and D who can cause problems for drew jake an Muratrody. Murgatord will win a few jump balls but will struggle to get open. Orange’s bottom half is a sure handed bunch with Rich, Jules, Tim, and Michael. Black’s bottom half with Mark, Daas, Sajeev will have their hands full. JJ and aaron have the hands advantage over Jay and Rodney. This game comes down to Ryan Ishmael!!! Team orange will have some trouble scoring, Dyl and company play solid D. Dyl will have trouble scoring against a stout Orange team lead by Joe, Mike and Tim on D. Orange finds ways to get it done with more players capable of making the big play when they need it.
Orange wins 26-20

CHAMPIONSHIP Whitby title Bowl!

Green Vs Carbon

I must admit, I had green lower in my power rankings all year, but since their close loss to Carbon by 4 points back in early October they have been pummeling teams. Carbon has looked unbeatable all year except vs Green. The undefeated season for carbon? Or the redemption season for Jelani and Z? This is the game we all want to see. Great matchups across the board, two great QBs playing excellent all season. Here we go. Jelani vs Noah. Advantage in experience to Noah. Pump fakes are even, Jelani can pump fake as well! Arm Strength slight edge to Noah. Accuracy edge to Jelani. Mobility edge to Jelani, defensive play to Jelani. QBs=Even/ Slight edge to Jelani for defensive ability. Frank vs Z. Two of the best to players in the league. Both incredible speed, advantage to Frank though. Hands both very strong, Slight advantage to Z with more acrobatic plays. Jump ball ability even. Route running advantage Frank. Defenece ability Advantage Frank. Ball in their hands slight adavnate to Z. These two are even. T.O vs Mario. T.O has had a resurragnece this year playing with noah and defenders keying on frank. T.O has the offensive advantage over Mario with excellent route running and hands. Defensive ability slight advante Mario. T.O has the advantage here. Cody, Nigel and Josh are athletic and have come a long way since the start of the year. They hold the slight advantage over Russ, Geoff and Matt. However, Russ has been the steal of the draft with outstanding defensive play and offensive ability. Taylor and Higney are similar players, stout on defence and solid on offense, both excellent later round picks. Rodney has the advantage over Wade. Arron Colin and Peter have the advnatge over the absent Johan and Jay. These teams match up very well. The T.O and Frank combo on offense could be a difference maker. Green will score a bundle as usual, Jelani finds ways to spread the ball around when the D is keying on Z. Z still finds ways to make plays. Frank will have his hands full stopping Greens offense. Green’s D has stepped up as of later after looking horrendous in the regular season. Will they be able to stop the best offense in the league with Noah and Frank and To? I don’t think so. This game will be high scoring. The winning team will be the team that can get more than 1 stop on defence, and it will not be a 3rd down turnover, rather a rare intereception for one of these QBS. The favourite has to be Carbon. I am not picking the favourtie here. Green finds a way to stop the explosive Carbon offense twice and that’s the difference.
Green wins 42-38

Power Rankings

5th rounder player comparisons

Red-Craig- Cliff Avril (Seatle DE)- Tough player, defensive specialist, working on hands and speed

Orange-Jay- C. J Mosley (Baltimore, LB) Defensive speiclaist, not a lot of room on the orange offense for the ball.

Black-Aaron-Greg Olsen- Big target, sure handed, not blazing speed. Tough player (Hockey guy)

Green-Geoff-Emmanual Sanders- Elevated by great QB play, shows flashes of athletic ability, working on consistency

Grey-Pete-Gronk! Sure handed, wins all of the jump balls, a joy to play with, not excellent speed

White-Brooks-Sean Lee- Defensive play maker! Important to the D as anyone. Injuries/attendance a concern

Carbon-Cody-Jurrel Casey (Tennesse DT) New player, strength is on defence.

Blue- Darryl-Stephon Gilmore(Buffalo CB) Solid all around player on both O and D. D specialist on this team full of play makers on O

Well that’s it for me. Signing off for the last time. Hopefully someone carries the torch next year for me. Hope to see everyone out at the games! Last chance to play some football or get in a run for some exercise before we put on the winter weight. My identity will be revealed at the banquet if you are interested or if you have a bone to pick with me over something I have said 
Good luck to all teams! Play safe! Respect the Referees and players!

This post is for all the smokers who clearly have no regard for their own health or others; refs, players and players wives/girlfriends. Almost 3 years ago my nephew was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He was the Captain of his Rep Hockey Team. He is an amazing, seriously smart, hilariously funny kid who has had to endure shit that most of us can’t even imagine. Now after almost a 3 year fight against this dreadful disease we are thankful that he is able to see his 16th birthday today. Chris has tried to have my back and encourage people to respect the No Smoking By-Law on fields in Whitby. For those of you who have the courtesy of walking off and handling your business, it’s noticed and I appreciate you. However there are still people who arrogantly light up and blow smoke in all of our faces. What will it take for you people to understand the importance of us doing our part in making our world healthier? Will it take seeing someone YOU love have everything stolen from them by cancer?.. will it take you watching them lose their hair? Will it take you having to watch them lose so much weight that they are unrecognizable? This is a real fight and the fight only gets worse with each generation. I do this for my nephew, I do this for us to be alive and stay healthy to raise our children, I do this for my children and I do this for your children. I don’t judge your cigarette addiction. What is disturbing is the lack of respect for others and the toxins you blow out into the air around you. If you want to see change in the world, be the change. It sounds so cliché but it’s the truth. And for anyone who plans to respond to this message with a smartass comment and hide behind a made up name just know that I will not read it or see it because once I push ‘Submit Comment’ I will have already moved onto other important things. And also, to the Execs, you might want to handle this before it becomes a permit issue. My nephews name is Marcus Baksh and no doubt if he was healthy he would have become a part of the team block with his uncles. - Chitel

Just wanted to post about the league and the appreciation I have for it. It's something that I had been looking for in the Durham Region for a long time and couldn't figure out why there wasn't something like it (apparently I wasn't looking hard enough). It's only my first year but I can see the rapport through the teams and players and the history that comes with this league. Things like the trash talk board and the picture updates make this league something special and I'm sure help continue it for a long time coming.

Hoping to bring more to the league next year, in terms of play and players but for now just looking forward to this Toilet Bowl Game!

@Potter

Kyle, great points and something that us old timers have known about for awhile. There are several other leagues out there all with great guys, and good football, but there is something about Whitby that just feels different.

Things I think that set it apart are:

The two fields. Something really cool about having all 8 teams play within 3 hours. You can get out, play, watch, socialize, and still get home to cut the lawn and take the kids to hockey.

Draft league. Really cool to play with someone one year and line up against them the year after.

The players. We have 50 years olds playing with 20 year olds. Father/sons. Bothers/cousins. Neighbors, etc. Everyone has a role and can be a part of the games. Everyone is extremely relaxed and although we are all guys and competitive by nature, the sportsmanship and spirit of the league is something I have not seen elsewhere.

The Exec. The entire exec is very dedicated to making the league as fun and fair as possible. Kudos to their time and dedication, it does not go unnoticed.

The price. Still the best value out there!

Obviously growth is important, so seeing guys like Wade (17 year older coming in from Peterborough) on my team is amazing to see. We have been as high as 12 teams, but 8 teams seems to be the sweet spot, where we have 8 competitive teams and the games do not eat into our weekends.

As for this weekend, just had a quick look at the early forecast and am excited that we may be playing a finals in cold, windy rain!

Looking forward to a great game against a very strong Green team. Let the best team win!

Noah

I've enjoyed this entire season, they guys are great and my team is incredible. I believe we have the best QB in this league as evidenced by our undefeated record.

There was a lot of early season predictions that Frank and TO wouldn't be able to get along and the infighting would tear this team apart. But look where we are now!

I think team Green has a lot of talent but they do not have the comradery of Carbon and thus will not be able to hang with us.

I can't wait for Saturday morning and then celebrating Saturday afternoon back at the banquet.

@Green: Bring your A game because you know Carbon is going to be firing on all cylinders.

@Z

While I admire your aspirations, Carbon is absolutely rolling. We will be bringing it to the field on Saturday and I hope you are ready to match up with me because I am ready to completely lock you down. I've been studying your teams gameplay and I'm confident that our defence will limit the opportunities that you have to score while we put up endless points. This game will be good, but the good will be in our favour.

I'll bring the case of beer on Saturday, but I'll be leaving the field with two!

Good luck to the other teams this weekend, particularly Red and LIGHT Grey in the Toilet Bowl, the second most important game this week!

There has been a lot of talk this year about who are the best QBs and how receivers stack up, but where is the love for the Ray Lewis’ of this league?

Who are the best defensive players in the league? Many QBs draft guys that will catch balls for them, but are there unsung heroes in the form of defenders? Are all first round picks stars on both sides of the ball? Who do you hate lining up against on O?

Who are the top 10 defencice players in the league?

Last years final was on Henry South.

@Frank
I love your pride Frank. I, however, will stick to the game plan and play the defense designed to stop carbon. My pride will not get in the way of a game plan. Whether that is matching up against you or not, our defense will lock you down. It is Green vs Carbon, not Frank vs Dave, Team game sir.

Or perhaps you intend to elevate yourself above your team like you did when you were with Giorgio and Nick and cause a riff with Carbon right before the finals??? !!!

Hey gang,

Consider this post off-topic, but I thought I would do a little extra advertising before the board becomes quiet after the Championship weekend.

If you, your family, and friends are looking for some local entertainment and a great way to kick-start your Christmas season, please come and see Noah and myself in a way you haven't before.

We are part of an amateur acting group through St. Mark's United Church in downtown Whitby and we will be performing the show Hello Dolly! on November 29, 30, and December 1 at 7:30 pm, and December 2 at 4:30 pm.

Noah and I will be in lead roles for the shows that are on Wednesday November 29 and Friday December 1. (you won't believe your eyes!!)

Tickets are by free-will offering (suggested price $20) and can be purchased ahead of time or at the door.

If you need more information you can check the website www.stmarkswhitby.ca or call the Church office at 905-668-3091.

Hope to see you there!!

1.) Frank - can lock down any 10 in the league and also plays great team d. anticipation, speed, and hands. can play off and then use speed to make up.
2.) Z - very close to frank. interesting doesnt have many picks this year as i think smart qbs dont thrown near him
3.) Nick - the knock here is his height, but he is the tallest clarkin, and the fastest
4.) TJ - A master bater. get it? TJ knows what some QBs are going to do before they do. He gives them enough rope to hang themselves.
5.) Drew - Timeless. Still looks like he is 22 out there and has traded some of his declining athleticism with veteran savvy.
6.) Jelani - Should compete every year as a QB only because he gives his team a second 10 on D. Almost makes what Colin, Miller, and Noah have done that more impressive.
7.) Luc - Maybe he's not as good as he thinks he is, but he's close. Plays a great man D but also functions well in a zone.
8.) Tim Wray - Maybe lost a step with father time, but still aggressive and fast.
9.) TO - Similar to Tim, but his smarts and length make him a threat on every play.
10.) Joe James - solid defender and getting better every week.

@ Fields - The championship will be played on whichever field is in the best condition. The final has traditionally been played on the North field but was played on the South last year as it was in better shape. Since the fields are side by side and travel time between them won't be an issue, we'll make that a game-time decision.

See you Saturday!

I don't have to worry about the rest of team Carbon, Z! I know what we have on the field and I couldn't be less worried about what we are bringing to the game on Saturday. I know that my team is good enough to run the field on both sides of the ball regardless of how I play. This team is solid from top to bottom.

This may be a little biased bit I believe Billy might be one of the best rushers, if not the best rusher, in the league. He is not the fastest but in only 3 games rushing he accumulated 3 sacks and 4 balls batted. In previous years he's had countless knockdown and even an interception while rushing.
