I am sure there will be some solid takes on the board this week but I will get it kicked off. It shouldn't be a surprise that Blue and Purple are here, although the argument can be made for Red, Black, and Silver as well. If the ball bounced a different way on a different play, we may be looking at a different Finals altogether. But these two teams were the best all season and the most consistent. So here we are.

Blue is fast and very deep. Luc and Nick are both top 10 players in the league, maybe even top 5. And they aren't even the fastest player on this team. Kyle not only has figured out the QB position, he provides Blue with another elite defender. Their D will make a few plays during a game that will impact the outcome. Blue's second tier players are all veterans that have been here before with the likes of Taylor, Rodney, Craig, Pete, Snyder, etc. They don't hurt you at all. This is a championship team and if they win Saturday, very deserving.

Purple is a machine. Highest scoring team, lowest points given up. Newcomers Tyler and Joe are also top 10 in the league. Noah just doesn't make mistakes and uses his weapons selectively. As has been stated, he doesn't give you what Kyle gives on D, but at this point, he gives his team a chance every game. Neeraj is unguardable, especially if teams are preoccupied with Tyler and Joe. Rumour that Ben Pane comes back this weekend only makes this team that much tougher. Purple's second tier of Jomo, the Walker father/son, John, etc, all impact the game as well, as they all score and have interceptions.

I'm going to cop out and say this is a pick em. Purple has the better QB, Blue has more speed. If Purple can rattle Kyle in his first QB finals appearance, that may be the difference. If Kyle can make plays and put his team in scoring positions, their D should be able to keep them in it. Should be a great finals.

Blue's calling card is their speed. They would like to tell you youth and facial hair as well. And maybe lack of height.

A snow covered field is a speed equalizer. I would say Purple's height and experience will favour Purple. Although Joe's ankle breaking moves will probably be impacted also.

Back for the finals and after a lengthy absence, I feel that at least one of us analysts should step up.
Only two games matter this weekend and that’s the A finals and the most coveted Toilet Bowl.
Quick break down of how each team got here:

Toilet Bowl:

Green: Destined to be here from the start, they got exactly what they were looking for. An appearance in the most important game of the year. Finally putting up a win (albeit by default), Green was also able to score on silver for the first time this year. Giving up less than half the points in their first matchup is a huge victory.

Yellow: I had Yellow labelled as the best 0-3 team in the league and they faltered. Somehow drafting Z first overall didn’t pan out but injuries plaguing the perennial 1st overall pick hampered their ability to roll. Dylan was eyeing this game from the moment they were sent packing to the bottom 4 and got their wish.

A Championship:

Purple: The Purple People Eaters started slow in a tough matchup with a determined black team but were quickly able to flip the script and take complete control of the game. Noah put up points as usual and his defense was able to hold the former 2x to few enough points to win the game.

Blue: A story book ending to the semifinals, Kyle led a 14 point comeback with a touchdown on the last play to tie, and a kick to win on the extra point (thanks for the video update). Two of the best teams went at it in that game and it couldn’t have ended in a better fashion for the fans on the hill.

B and C Finals:

B Finals: Red vs Black
A rematch of last year’s finals has Matt and Jelani pinned head to head once again. Matt will look to take this final installment and carry some bragging rights into the off season. Jelani looking to prove once again that he is the better playoff performer.

C Finals: Silver vs White
This is one of the most anticipated games of the season. Glenn looks to assert his dominance over Spackman and prove that he is, once and for all, the better QB. A disappointing tie in the final regular season game left much to be desired. Should this game end in a tie, I’ll retire from sports.

Toilet Bowl: Yellow vs Green

Dylan has been here before and he is more than proud of it. Looking to be maybe the first ever toilet bowl repeat champion. Drinking from that teeny tiny toilet must leave you with a feeling like no other. Green will certainly have a matchup ahead of them if they can get numbers out for this frigid game. A win by default will be highly unlikely as Yellow has had a full squad nearly every week. Enjoy the morning cold gentlemen.

A Finals: Purple vs Blue (GOTW)

Noah > Kyle
Joe = Nick
Tyler < Luc
Neeraj > Remy
Payne > Klassen
Ben Walker = Hubenig
Jomo, Aiden, Tenzin < Taylor, Snyder, Big Pete
Soares, Greg, McKinnon = Lance, Rodney Eskins

This was a regular season showdown that came down to the wire. A 1 point victory for Purple left them in the drivers seat to finish the season as the top seed. Joe vs Nick is going to be the matchup of the day as both are uncoverable. Noah has heavily favoured Joe all over the field. Kyle has better distributed the ball to all of his play makers. This is a team that is more than happy to share the ball and none of the players are complaining when they don’t see the rock. Tyler has been rumoured to be nursing an injury but hopefully his usage from last week will have allowed him to heal. The entirety of both teams has made an impact in all aspects of the game and that is why both teams are here. Neither team relies on a single player to take over and the ability to spread the ball around makes every player a threat to make a big play. Any play can be the game breaker and a single mistake by either side could seal their fate. Best of luck to both teams out there on Saturday and may the best team win!

Good luck to everyone else out there this weekend and stay warm!

@kitch is absolutely right. Winter cold is a huge advantage for blue.
Kyle has been a disciple of Wim Hoff as long as anyone can remember, and not to brag but I recently found out that the polar bear species have identified me as their spirit animal. It’s not well known, but when kyle made his selections he had eyes only for the championship, and even in August he knew he needed a cold weather team. Winter soldiers every one.
And on purple, you have only Jomo who can play in the cold. The rest, led by that south florida pretty boy Noah; well - you best hope for a shift in the weather, son.
Regardless it will be a great game and I am very much looking to play it. 50 years in the league and it’ll be my first final!

All statistics for Blue and Purple are similar.

Purple was 2nd in points for, Blue was 3rd

Blue was 1st in points against, Purple was 2nd

The match-ups are intriguing as putting stats aside, Joe and Nick are the two most difficult players to cover in the league. Luc and Tyler were both in the mix for both scoring title and interceptions. Noah may be a better QB, but Kyle has matured fast and brings more to the table on defense. Remy, Ben, Neeraj, and Taylor are all capable 3rd and 4th rounders. Mid picks of Jomo, Klassen, Rodney, Snyder and Walkers are all extremely solid.

Will be a good one.

First of all, congratulations to Blue on an awesome season. You guys showed up every week and are a deserving champion. Special recognition to Kyle, who didn't make a mistake all day, and was the better QB on Saturday! Watching Kyle and Nick (and the other 37 Clarkins) grow up in this league has been beautiful, and happy to lose to you guys. You are everything your father is not! And also to Matt, Pete, Rodney, and Craig, couldn't be happier for you guys. And Eskins, all he does is win championships. If us QBs don't grab him ASAP next draft, we are all fools. Pretty sure hes got like 5 or 6 in a row across a couple of leagues.

To my purple team, great season guys. Ball didn't bounce our way Saturday, but we gave it all season, and we lost a damn good team.

Didn't want to take anything away from my previous post, but feel the need to bring this up here. Most of you saw me pretty heated on Saturday after a call and penalty on the field. I apologize for getting so wound up, but I think there were some things that happened that we need to improve on and get better based on it.

It was early in the 2nd half, we were down by 2 TDs and driving pretty deep into Blue's end. It was like 3rd and 4 and Neeraj ran a quick out. There was some contact on cut. It was contact that probably happens 90% of the time on that play. We completed the pass, so should be first down, we are close and we have the momentum. A ref called a push off on Neeraj. You all know how I felt about that call, I made it abundantly clear. You just can't make that call in that situation. But, its a judgement call, and the refs GET PAID to make those calls. So the call was a push off on the cut, and the call was offensive pass interference, which I will get into later.

The call should not be pass interference. Pass interference only applies if the QB has already thrown the ball. This was on the cut, well before I threw the ball. It should have been illegal contact, ten years from LOS, replay 3rd down, based on our rules. If that gutsy call is made, the refs have to get the execution right. This would be true in any game, but especially on a momentum changing 3rd down in a championship game. That was inexcusable.

Maybe they didn't know the rule? Well, thats not an excuse, they are paid to know the rules. Plus, the exact same situation occurred 3 weeks ago, which ultimately eliminated Silver. When Jack bumped Z in the end zone (called pass interference), that was also before the ball came out. Should have been illegal contact, not PI. So we need to learn from that and get better. Am I saying we would have converted 3rd and 14? Scored on that drive? Stopped Blue, who we had trouble stopping all game? I don't know, but we deserved and should have had the chance to try. It was a blown call, and the refs should have gotten together and gotten it right.

Finally, if the ball was in the air, and the ref believed it was illegal contact on Neeraj, the call is Offensive Pass Interference. Currently the WMFL overrides basically every other league in the world by saying there is a loss of down there. CFL, NFL, CIAU, NCAA, Pop Warner, you don't lose ten yards AND the down, its simply a ten yard penalty if accepted and down over. That rule has to change immediately so that a team doesn't get screwed in the future.

I want to ensure I make it clear this isn't taking anything away from Blue. I believe they were the better team, at least on Saturday. :) But I also think we owe it to the league and ourselves to ensure things are fair and a team doesn't work hard all season, only to have a blown call end their season (Saints NFC championship right?). Bad judgement calls are part of the game, and once the video comes out, I am sure there will be some contact seen there, but the execution of the rule was flat out wrong and we should learn from it so it doesn't happen again, as it affected two significant games this season, and we need to change that Offensive PI rule immediately.

-Noah

Illegal contact or holding is a ten yard penalty... that happens either before a pass or if its not the intended receiver

Pass interference is a spot foul when its D, and in this league its a loss of down on O.

There is no such thing as offensive illegal contact. It’s just offensive pass interference. The ball does not have to be in the air for offensive pass interference to be present. The ball does have to be in the air for defensive pass interference.

There were calls missed on both sides of the ball, this isn’t the NFL where we can review calls on instant replay or go upstairs to rules expert Dean Blandino. Bottom line is that purple was never below a 10 point deficit through out the game and throwing 3 picks isn’t going to win you a championship, Blue was the better team on Saturday and it’s a simple as that.

See you all out there next year

Way too early offseason mock draft first 2 rounds:

Assuming all the top picks return as they are and blocks remain the same.

Round 1:

1. Joe R
2. Dave Z
3. Nick
4. Jamie
5. Luc
6. Giorgio
7. Bo
8. Frank

Round 2 (snake):

9. Tim Wray
10. Mario
11. T.O.
12. Remy
13. Murgatroyd
14. TJ
15. Grae
16: Tyler

Round 1:

1. Joe R: Joe and Tyler is far too good of a block to pass up on. Both could potentially be first round picks.

2. Dave Z: Z is Z. Usually first overall but Joe/Tyler is too tantalizing to pass up on.

3. Nick: Fresh off a championship. His unknown attendance is the only reason he fell so far this year.

4. Jamie: Stepped into the league as a top player. Missing a few games he still dominated on the scorecard.

5. Luc: Another fresh off a title. He proved his worth in the playoffs. Another great block to have.

6. Giorgio: Seems to get better every year. Having a top tier QB for a season may make him the most dangerous receiver in the league.

7. Bo: Had great synergy with Matt all season. His size and hands helped one of the best offenses score at will.

8. Frank: Tough season filled with injuries. Still a threat but its unknown how he will bounce back.

Round 2:

9. Tim: Even without blazing speed, his football IQ makes him dangerous on both sides of the ball.

10. Mario: Scoring champ! Proved this year that he is dangerous. Still has all his moves.

11. T.O.: Nearly uncoverable with his size, and hands like no one else.

12. Remy: Blocked with Luc, his offensive upside is staggering.

13. Murgatroyd: Great offensive player and blocked with a solid defender in Drew.

14. TJ: Still a great player all around. Playoff attendance will have him continue to fall until he is on a team that can win without him.

15. Grae: First year in the league. He was a stud on both sides of the ball. Made it look easy.

16. Tyler: Blocked with Joe. Could go first round.

@Luc..

Totally agree and I hope and think I was clear you guys killed it and are deserving champs. That’s not even a question!

My point was to make this already great league as good as it can be. For sure calls will always be missed or disagreed upon. That’s sports. But when something can be fixed, it needs to. We fixed the qb over the line thing, we fixed 3rd and goal, we fixed a lot over the years. That was my point. Every other league has fixed it, we need to do the same. I’m confident it will happen.

But again, you guys outplayed us, and yes, three picks ain’t going to win many games in this league.

This almost boomer is already planning his draft strategy for next year!

It may involve the Semanski bro’s!

Why are they saying that Nick & Kyle need to be separated? Maybe a case could be made if Kyle wasn’t a QB, but he can’t throw to himself and they’re brothers.

As for Remy & Luc... Big advantage in drafting them as a block, but next year they’d be a 1-2 instead of the 2-3 that they were this year. Kyle hit the draft jackpot this year with getting Luc at the third pick of the second round and then Remy near the end of the third. But we all know It was all Snyder who secured them the title. How’s the knee? Any recent X-rays?

Tyler & Joe ... no way anyone can pass that combo up if they block as family. Dangerous.

In TFONT, offensive pass interference is an automatic turnover, at the spot of the foul. So that really limits how often the refs wanna be a hero and call that. The Markham Mustangs got screwed in a back and forth game where it should have been defensive PI (if they called anything), as the offensive player stacked the DB ... but they inexplicably ruled offensive PI, it was a turnover, and that basically ended the game. Rough way to go out.

The play that caused the controversy was at about 2:10 in video. It was third down that catch would have been first down.. instead the penalty was loss of down and blue took over

Purple still lost by 10 points and blue downed the ball with 3 plays left on purple's 20 yard line, so If they really wanted to they could have won by 18 points, but hey keep clinging on to that one blown call

I dont think its worth arguing over the single call deciding the game, call or not blue was going to win. That doesn't mean there shouldn't be a discussion on ways to improve the refereeing or the ways penalties are called/enforced.

To: Craig Klassen WMFL President

I just became aware that the WMFL is thinking of cancelling this year.
What ways can I be of assistance to help the WMFL run this year??

Craig, I forgot to put my contact # 905-922-7653.

Maybe someone out there could help me with the WMFL website. I can't seem to find anywhere, that lists our executive members or their contact info. Who are they?? What positions they hold etc. I'm sure it's on here, I just can't seem to find it.

Thank you in advance for your help!!

Craig, Mr President...or ANY of the executive... I still haven't been contacted... Do we still HAVE an executive?? Is this league STILL run by volunteers?
Or have all the former executive, left the building
and the 80 or so players last year are left out in the cold??
If there is in fact an executive, who was on the board? Are there elections? When was the last election? Or has the league simply been taken over by someone and was disclosed to the membership sometime ago and I just missed it?? In other words, is the league run privately now?? At this particular time of year, when the league is just normally starting up... the action on the message board should be too. It seems strange to me that if there is an executive, no one is looking at these posts.

I can be contacted by phone or text, My phone # is 905-922-7653.

PS-To the players that have contacted me directly... hopefully this will help get us some answers.
