Saw that the year end party is still happening, I think most of the league members would rather see that money sent to Rion’s family than having it spend on wings and nachos.

What about a combination of both?

A combination of the banquet and making donations to Rion's family. I'm not sure how it would be done, but I think it's still important for everyone to get together.

We could use the banquet money to donate and pay for our own tabs or keep the banquet money for the banquet and collect donations for Rion's family.

Just an idea.

Probably easier on the kitchen and staff to still have the food ordered and paid for by Exec. How about a $20 admittance fee and that money can be given to the family or we make a donation to another cause on behalf of the league?

We are deeply heartbroken with the loss of Rion. He was playing in his second year in the league and also regularly came out to play pickup in the offseason. We appreciate all of the suggestions for how to honour him and send our support to his family. At this time we do not have any information regarding their wishes. We plan to do a tribute at the banquet, and when we learn more, we have league funds available to donate accordingly.

On behalf of the Executive Comittee we look forward to sharing some stories and reflecting on his presence after the finals next week.

A lot of you don’t know this. Jelani drafted me the first year he QB’d in the WMFL. We trained relentlessly at the Oshawa beach every day during that season. I found some photos of those training sessions.

Will someone be collecting funds on behalf of the league on Saturday at the field or at the bar for players looking to contribute to the donation in our brother Rion’s name?

I am heartbroken by the news of Rion's passing. He was a kind good man with a mega watt smile. He was simply awesome. Rest in Peace Rion.

I would also like to share how appreciative I am of being part of this league and to be associated with the amazing people in it. I can tell you personally that the few hours a week I spend on the field helps me reset the mind and soul. For a few hours a week, it is like therapy for the mind and I can focus on dropping Joe's passes. Seeing how this league has rallied around such a tragedy just further deepens my love for our league and this community.

Apologies. I usually do not post anything. I felt compelled to share my thoughts as I am also part of this great community. If my words can help in any way or if anyone needs my help, please reach out anytime.

Thanks

Neeraj

Agree with the sentiments above. It’s always great to come out on a Saturday morning and play regardless of the season. Like Neeraj running a few routes in his peacoat in January talking about how he has to leave soon because his wife thinks he’s at Costco. Or relentlessly trolling Frank (#14) for the championship games we’ve played against each other. Even getting chirped by Jelani and Frank after getting Mossed for a TD a few weeks ago as they enjoyed their beers from the hill. All these laughs make up so much more than football, and it’s what makes this league special.

👀Frank.

After Neeraj post, it touched my heart as I would agree that it helps me but more my son. As Junuis would call it the 10 week challenge. We have watched my son grow into a new person as his confidence has been gained bye playing in the WMFL. It is where it all started for me.

League fees have been $80 for many years now. If we are using the same model as past years, how could th eseason fees jump up $20-$30??? Where is this extra money going?

Increase in cost for pad storage and transportation. However, having 3 refs per game in the regular season is too much and unnecessary. We don't need 3 refs per game in the regular season. what we need is 3 paid refs in the playoffs. cut the cost. its regular season. everyone makes playoffs.

If you look at the main webpage which has last years info on it, we paid $100 last year too. It’s not an increase to stay the same.

The league used to use refs from teams but there were many issues with teams not being able to provide refs. Counting on paid refs for all games has alleviated that problem .

Last years league fees were increased because of 50th anniversary hats. Otherwise we've paid $80 for the last 7 or 8 years prior.
